This is the most competitive chart in a couple of years thanks to Buzzjack listed stuff which I may not have otherwise heard (so cheers to everyone!). Headed by the amazing Woodkid record which finally climbs to the top, even though I still love Keane just as much: Run Boy Run is brilliantly constructed, from the starting bell chimes, the frantic drum beats, the singing, the strings, and the climax mixing all of the elements building to a grand finale. Fab!

The Wanted shoot up to 3, a great dancepop track, their 3rd great single so far (plus some decent ones). Straight in at 8 is new act Kristina Train, classy, classy, classy. Ive downloaded off itunes a load this week, including that one, which is why some are going back up and re-entering. David Bowie meanwhile now heads the oldies at 9. I'm ashamed to say when it originally came out, despite being a fan, and despite previously having 2 Number Ones and 7 Top 10's, this peaked only at 14 in 1977. It's one of his classics of course...

Good climbs for fun and Bobby Womack, and new entries from great new hits (and acts) Asaf Avidan, and Imagine Dragons with US Hot 100 goodie Radioactive. I hope to download it soon... Madness go Top 40, and extend their run of Top 40 hits to 33 years, while the late Poly Styrene returns to the Top 40 for the first time in 33 years. 1979 was a great time for music...

Pink, and other lower chart entries are all lower than they deserve to be, due to so many great singles about, and those dropping out really still should be in the chart (just like last week's drop-outs!). I really can't list 100 though!

Some good improvements on your new Chart, John!

Nice to see David Bowie cracked into Top 10 this week. It's 35th Anniversary since the original release of "Heroes", isn't it? Not my favourite Bowie's track, but nice one, for sure.

Haven't heard Kristina Train yet, but looks like i have to (as you gave praise to it).

Lovely single by Disclosure ft. Sam Smith. It's in my Waiting Room.

I'm glad that you liked Poly Styrene's Xmas song.

I've seen your blog, John! It's great! I'm going to follow your example. Have already started one, but didn't get how organising multiple posts inside one title...

Thanks Andrey, yes I replied to your post on my blog (I knew it was you - the great thing about wordpress is it shows on a map of the world which countries have logged on to read the blog that day (on settings) so it's quite exciting seeing which countries catch you by googling and whcih don't (China/Middle East and three quarters of Africa don't, so far, but most of the rest of the world do, Headed by the UK then the USA then Germany just ahead of the rest of the pack:)

Yes that Poly styrene song is great, and Latch. Kristina Train reminds me abit of Shelby Lynn, a fantastic singer from the 90's, her single (and the album it came from) Your Lies was a classic that no-one knows, sadly!

I look forward to your blog! To create a new post you just go "Create new post" and save it, then when you've saved it you can go to the menu on the left-hand-side to create a category and also to create tag-words which help google. When anyone googles Radio Luxembourg Charts I think popchartfreak is now the first one to come up after wikipedia!

cheers!

John, I just read "Confessions Of A Self-Confessed Pop Chart Freak" from your blog.

Most impressive sentence for me was "I've never come to the stage where I can’t find 75 records I like to fill it. Not once"

Sometimes I couldn't find even 20 singles for my weekly charts.

Thanks Mart!n, that's pretty much most of the top 40!:) I wish I had more time to do the same to evryone's charts on buzzjack (and a decent computer to help me cut n paste. Mine's virtually a sinclair ZX spectrum in comparison to current models:) For everyone too young to remember a time before computers they used to use those in the bronze age....

Ah thanks Alex, I love being quoted, makes me feel like a proper writer:)

Thanks for looking too! I think it's perfectly normal to like about 20 or 30 records, I used to speak to music fans in the 80's (and 70's and 90's) who regularly complained about the modern music scene, but who when pushed to be specific about records in the charts generally liked 10 to 20, to their surprise. I've always been a bit unusual in liking three quarters or more of chart stuff most of the time, though there are occasional quiet periods when it drops to about half....!

cheers!

Fantastic chart which I always enjoy reading :D

Thanks AH!

Glad you like Kristina Train too, it's a subtle haunting song!

The bananarama version of jagger is great fun - their last few singles have all been good, just wish radio would play them! I loved the original (number One, and hung around my charts for ages and ages, one of the biggies of the 21st century) so it's a compliment to the Nanas that they managed to make it sound like one of their own hits, it's better than a lot of their very early chart hits!

Poly's single is a dark poppy reggae goodie, while Gemma Ray is just great, high time she got some success!

cheers!

john
