Posted November 25, 201212 yr I had an 80's week, seeing the fab Human League live at Bournemouth, (new entry, therefore, for single off the latest album Credo, and for support band The Penelopes, a new French synth band, sort of, with a great instrumental track not unlike chemical brothers Setting Son in mood). Keane, meanwhile return to Number 1 for a 4th week. I notice only 2 UK Top 40 hits in my top 10. I blame buzzjack for all the distractions from other people's charts...:) Highest new entry from the Stones, used in a advert a couple of years back, never a UK single (though a hit in the USA) and I downloaded it 2 years back without charting it. Now Grrr had charted, and it's on it, I have an excuse, hooray! It's a 60's hippie charmer. Bobby Womack has his biggest ever hit at 7, with what is essentially a slow soulful dubstep track, not bad for an old geezer. The Nanas meanwhile do a sort of "I Feel Love" moroder version of Maroon 5, not bad for lasses of 50-harrumph. Girls Aloud get 10 years of Top 10's with a big mover, as I finally get to hear it properly (its fab of course). Big moves for Pink, and Coldplay, new entries for The Overtones and Kylie's next single remake, and Steps re-enter as i finally get to hear it for a second time. It's a good record. I have to say Steps don't always make my Top 40, so that's actually to their credit! cheers! 1 2 1 10 DISCONNECTED Keane 1175000 2 3 1 7 RUN BOY RUN Woodkid 747000 3 1 1 3 DARK BLACK Kristina Train 303000 4 5 4 6 BRUISES Train/ Ashley Monroe 191100 5 6 3 4 I FOUND YOU The Wanted 209500 6 new 6 1 SHE'S A RAINBOW The Rolling Stones 55000 7 8 7 4 PLEASE FORGIVE MY HEART Bobby Womack 134100 8 9 8 6 MOVES LIKE JAGGER Bananarama 170300 9 38 9 4 SOMETHING NEW Girls Aloud 96600 10 18 10 6 MY GIRL 2 Madness 112400 11 13 10 4 LATCH Disclosure/Sam Smith 132000 12 10 10 7 RIDE Lana Del Ray 141550 13 7 1 18 SOME NIGHTS fun. 1325500 14 11 9 5 BENEATH YOUR BEAUTIFUL Labrinth/ Emili Sande 166000 15 17 15 16 (I'M NOT YOUR) STEPPIN' STONE The Monkees 249150 16 20 16 3 BLACK CHRISTMAS Poly Styrene 62100 17 32 17 3 TRY P!nk 52800 18 15 6 11 CANDY Robbie Williams 291850 19 19 8 9 ONE MORE NIGHT Maroon 5 213800 20 24 20 6 LET'S HAVE A KIKI Scissor Sisters 103700 21 21 10 6 DON'T YOU WORRY CHILD Swedish House Mafia/ John Martin 147950 22 14 1 17 LITTLE TALKS Of Monsters And Men 1373900 23 23 12 6 WONDER Naughty Boy/ Emeli Sande 114100 24 new 24 1 HIGHER The Overtones 19000 25 25 25 3 ONE DAY/RECKONING SONG Asaf Avidan & The Mojos 56250 26 64 26 4 HURTS LIKE HEAVEN Coldplay 42600 27 29 27 3 RUNAWAY Gemma Ray 48350 28 12 5 8 SKYFALL Adele 319500 29 33 29 7 VAVA VOOM Nicki Minaj 81500 30 35 30 2 YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE New Radicals 35500 31 16 16 9 PUSH AND SHOVE No Doubt/Busy Signal/Major Lazer 185200 32 RE 32 3 LIGHT UP THE WORLD Steps 38100 33 29 19 7 CARRY ON fun 127700 34 new 34 1 ON A NIGHT LIKE THIS (ABBEY ROAD SESSIONS) Kylie Minogue 17600 35 new 35 1 MEMORY OF THE FUTURE (SINGLE REMIX) Pet Shop Boys 17500 36 40 36 12 I DON'T KNOW HOW TO LOVE HIM Yvonne Elliman 130800 37 49 37 3 TROUBLEMAKER Olly Murs/ Flo Rida 34400 38 new 38 1 SKY The Human League 17200 39 4 4 16 HEROES David Bowie 335500 40 new 40 1 THE SWEET SONG (FUKUSHIMA MON AMOUR) The Penelopes 17000 41 27 7 7 BLUE VELVET Lana Del Ray 181800 42 31 9 7 REQUIEM IN DENIM AND LEOPARDSKIN Pet Shop Boys 210650 43 43 43 9 NEVER TEAR US APART INXS 103050 44 37 18 10 GANGNAM STYLE PSY 151650 45 new 45 1 MISS ATOMIC BOMB The Killers 13000 46 22 22 6 CHILDLIKE MEN (JEEPSTER) T.Rex 104850 47 47 47 4 I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE Taylor Swift 44600 48 30 30 4 PUT YOUR HANDS UP Matchbox 20 64700 49 36 10 8 BACKTRACK Rebecca Ferguson 185850 50 50 50 13 WE WILL ROCK YOU Queen 111400 51 26 26 3 RADIOACTIVE Imagine Dragons 48750 52 42 20 6 DOOM AND GLOOM The Rolling Stones 87400 53 53 53 9 EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE The Police 75000 54 34 34 7 SWEET NOTHING Calvin Harris/ Florence Welch 96500 55 57 55 8 HELP ME RHONDA The Beach Boys 61000 56 new 56 1 THE OUTSIDERS Deacon Blue 10600 57 59 57 6 YOUR MOTHER SHOULD KNOW The Beatles 43100 58 41 4 17 GOOD TIMES Owl City/ Carly Rae Jepson 571850 59 48 3 21 UNFINISHED SYMPATHY Massive Attack 479400 60 55 1 57 PRINCESS OF CHINA Coldplay/ Rihanna 3448300 61 58 1 37 ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART Cilla Black 923000 62 61 1 78 GOD ONLY KNOWS The Beach Boys 1675650 63 45 3 13 HOW DO I GET TO CARNEGIE HALL? This song along with Gimme Shelter are my favourite Stones songs ever! Their 1967 double A-sided single We Love You/Dandelion is no near as good as that one. No wonder it was their worst selling single in UK since the beginning... Madness and Bananarama give 80's favour to your Top 10. :)

November 29, 201212 yr Hi John, It's been my turn to take chart tips from you this week! I've finally heard the Poly Styrene Christmas track - I adore it! I've practically had it on repeat since I downloaded it, so expect to see that high in my next chart! Also like the Bobby Womack track. Still great to see Bananarama and Gemma Ray climbing! I always enjoy reading your chart. Fantastic chart as always :D
November 29, 201212 yr Viva la Steps !!!! Great comeback. John, which Christmas songs are your all-time favourites? Wait 1.000.000 points for Cilla Black.
November 29, 201212 yr Author Hi John, It's been my turn to take chart tips from you this week! I've finally heard the Poly Styrene Christmas track - I adore it! I always enjoy reading your chart. Fantastic chart as always :D Thanks AH, glad you like Poly too, though I can't take credit, I got it off another buzzjack fan, and I'm also liking it more & more:) As I am Gemma Ray, and I'm having to try and persuade friends my age that the 80's pop acts are still alive and well and making great records - they wouldn't know cos radio never plays stuff like Bananarama! thanks again! cheers:) john
November 29, 201212 yr Author Viva la Steps !!!! Great comeback. John, which Christmas songs are your all-time favourites? Wait 1.000.000 points for Cilla Black. Thanks Alex, yes I really like the Steps record, and Ive only heard it twice, so it may yet go higher - it's ceratinly the most sophisticated release they've had! I think Cilla will hang about for the "million" sales, as it's a classic! My all-time fave xmas songs tend to be ones that radio doesnt play every year in the UK - they always play the same 15 or 20 records - great as they are (Pogues/Mariah/Wizzard/Wham etc I bought them all first time round) I'd like for them to not be played for a couple of years just to give other classics a chance for a change: so apart from them: Happy Xmas War Is Over (John & Yoko) I Believe In father Xmas (Greg lake) Lonely This Christmas (Mud) Christmas Wrapping - (Waitresses) probably some others Ive forgotten, stuff like Kate Bush, Gilbert O'Sullivan, you may like Dana's sweet "It's Gonna Be A Cold Cold Christmas":) cheers! john in recent years warm This Winter (Gabriella Cilmi) is a goodie
November 29, 201212 yr 1. John, my favourite Xmas songs are very unique thing. I'm sure, that you watched that list with them in Retro part on this forum. I didn't heard about Dana's Christmas song, so I would be watch this video on Youtube. 2. Steps have 16-17 # 1 songs in my charts with most their singles and three times with B-sides [Heartbeat, Better The Devil You Know, I Know Him So Well] + Claire Richards has 5 additional number 1s [4 in H & Claire and 1 in TSD] She is the record holder in my charts with 21-22 # 1 singles. + Faye Tozer has additional # 1 single "Someone Like You" [it was her wonderful duet with Russell Watson] 3. Glad for Kylie Minogue. Her EP is the best thing, which she recorded after her first two albums.

I'm always interested in archive tracks so If i get the time when i go on holiday next week I may youtube them:) You are quite the Steps fan! A few of my friends (who are only just a bit younger then me) love them too, though they usually have to work hard to peak high in my chart, there's usually so many others I love! My top tracks are Last Thing On My Mind (5), DJ (8), One For Sorrow (18), Better The Devil You Know/Say You'll B eMine (18) Its the way you make me feel (25) Stomp (30) and the rest a bit lower. The new one is 32 so far, and the most under-rated is Deeper Shade Of Blue which peaked at 36 but should have gone top 10. If it's any consolation their version of Last Thing... did much better than Bananarama's by about 70 places! I periodically review whole years (recorded on tape) and Deeper Shade, DJ, Stomp, Say You''l Be mine all did much better in the year-end list than first time round. I also was impressed with Claire's vocals when I saw her on Popstar to Operastar TV show, she can really sing well when she does the opera stuff! cheers:) john
November 30, 201212 yr John , TSD - Heart & Soul Dance pop song, which was UK # 69 in February 1996. It was the first music experience for Claire before Steps in girl trio TSD and were dropped by their record label after the release of their second single "Baby I Love You". Faye Tozer & Russell Watson - Someone Like You Gorgeous ballad, which was realised in the same time with H & Claire first single. "DJ" was # 3, "Someone Like You" - # 10. Faye Tozer - If You Believe Claire Richards - Hand On Your Heart Every Steps member have solo song on their third album "Buzz". 2 best voices from Steps got 2 amazing ballads. Both songs used for Gold Greatest Tour. H & Claire - Another You, Another Me Claire is true ballad queen. Cover version. Original was written by Bjorn & Benny for Gemini in 80s. Heartbeat [b-side for million seller "Tragedy"] Christmas video. One from my favourite winter videos with "Happy New Year" and "Something Stupid" Popstar to Operastar was a good show. I like Claire and Cheryl Baker perfomances in it.
