ABRACADABRA - Steve Miller Band 6. BEATLES MOVIE MEDLEY - The Beatles 7. NO REGRETS - Midge Ure 8. SPACE AGE LOVE SONG - A Flock Of Seagulls 9. THE LOOK OF LOVE - ABC 10. FAME - IRENE CARA 11. A NIGHT TO REMEMBER - Shalamar 18. AFTER THE GOLDRUSH (1982 VERSION) - Prelude 19. LAS PALABRAS DE AMOUR - Queen 20. I'M A WONDERFUL THING (BABY) - Kid Creole & The Coconuts Some oldies cover versions, some New Romantic classics, a dash of 80's soul. The Leo sayer song is a Bee Gees cover, The Mike Oldfield became a Hall & Oates cover, Prelude a Neil Young cover, etc etc. I stand by Bucks Fizz, much maligned, but beautifully crafted pop songs, and ABC's The Lexicon Of Love is one of the greatest albums of all time, bar very few other contenders. Immaculate. Pop music was great fun in the early MTV video 80's... It's been a while, so here's another "30 Years Ago" chart - from Sept 28th 1982.. 1. (-) PASS THE DUTCHIE - Musical Youth 2. (1) EYE OF THE TIGER - Survivor 3. (2) PRIVATE INVESTIGATIONS - Dire Straits 4. (12) THERE IT IS - Shalamar 5. (3) ALL OF MY HEART - ABC 6. (10) LEAVE IN SILENCE - Depeche Mode 7. (39) SAVE A PRAYER - Duran Duran 38. (38) SUMMERTIME - Fun Boy 3 39. (-) TAKE A CHANCE WITH ME - Roxy Music 40. (-) DO YOU WANNA FUNK - Sylvester What a great chart, full of classic singles, the top of my chart wasnt too far from the BBC chart, just mine was minus the cheesier numbers and plus the ones that should have been big hits: the awesome Jennifer Holliday original, the brilliant Phil-Collins track from Frida, and the mystifying chart failure of a good Macca track. There's also that rarity: straight in at 1 for a debut record: Musical Youth. That Rocky perennial that just wont go away. Dire Straits best record. ABC at the end of an awesome run of singles from one of the greatest albums. Depeche Mode staring to get into their stride. Jam about to end with one of their best. Rockers Revenge great Eddy Grant cover. Carly Simon's fabulous Chic-track. One of the greatest early rap hits The Message. A debut for soon-to-be-famous Boy george. Ultravox' best record, some thanks to Beatles-producer George Martin. Hot Chocolate coming near the end of a great 13-year chart run of fabulous and varied hits. Journey in my Top 40 25 years before they finally made it. Hope that's fun! NOV 30th 1982: 1. (2) THE DAY BEFORE YOU CAME - Abba 2. (5) MIRROR MAN - Human League 3. (1) LIVING ON THE CEILING - Blancmange 4. (6) (SEXUAL) HEALING - Marvin gaye 5. (3) MANEATER - Hall & Oates 6. (9) WISHING (IF I HAD A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOU) - A Flock Of Seagulls 7. (--) PEACE ON EARTH/LITTLE DRUMMER BOY - David Bowie/Bing Crosby 25. (--) THE YOUTH OF TODAY - Musical Youth 26. (15) YOU CAN DO MAGIC - America 27. (22) BACK ON TH3E CHAIN GANG - Pretenders 28. (23) REAP THE WILD WIND - Ultravox 29. (31) WHO CAN IT BE NOW - Men At Work 30. (20) JACK AND DIANE - John Cougar 31. (21) ANNIE I'M NOT YOUR DADDY - Kid Creole & The Coconuts 32. (--) HYMN - Ultravox 38. (24) DO IT TO THE MUSIC - Raw Sil 39. (--) LOUISE - Phil Everley 40. (--) LOVE - John Lennon So...30 years ago I was having a clear-out of the charts, lots of new entries - while there are some classics in the Top 10 I can see why the clear-out was going on with the likes of Renee & Renata & The Girl Is Mine in there lower down - ouch! Phil Everley was having a final chartfling attempt (of the Everley Brothers), Wham! debuted, still active acts like Human League, Madness, Duran and Bananarama were on a roll, and bad haircuts were much in evidence, most classically of all via A Flock Of Seagulls, the likes of which were never to be seen again! But just look at the top 10, one of Abba's greatest, most subtle records at 1 (even if it failed to chart anywhere much in the real world, it was so obviously a great record), not to mention Marvin gaye's final classic, Blancmange brilliant hit, Hall & Oates in full swing, awesome Tears For Fears, and the late Donna with a fab version of Jon & Vangelis song.
November 27, 201212 yr "Videotheque" was the first song from Dollar, which I heard. It was a recomendation from another music forum, when I said, that I like Bucks Fizz and ABBA. I love Bucks Fizz, they are the next stop for ABBA fans. [same connection for Scooch and Steps] Like: Bucks Fizz - Now Those Days Are Gone (it's not their best, but good song) Dollar - Videotheque Dollar - Give Me Some King Of Magic Frida - I Know There's Something Going On [My favourite from her solo material: En Tango I Det Grönna] ABBA - The Day Before You Came (# 1 again ) Renee & Renato - Save Your Love Don't know this song from Pretenders.
November 28, 201212 yr ABC's The Lexicon Of Love is one of the greatest albums of all time, bar very few other contenders. Absolutely! :) One of my favourite albums of all-time. And The Look of Love is one of the greatest songs of the 80's. I love video for this song too. Nice to see original version of Family Man in your Charts. Can't say that Hall & Oates cover was any worse than the original, but i was always a bit upset that Oldfield has never charted with that one. And vocals performed by Maggie Reilly are brilliant there. I'm agreed with Alex on Videotheque. Though my favourite Dollar song is Love's Gotta Hold on Me, this one is a solid pop song. And the title... Everybody's been so excited over the home video in the beginning of the 80's :D I love A Flock of Seagulls, but haven't been familiar with "Space Age Love Song". ABBA really deserved a No.1 hit with The Day Before You Came. Perhaps, ABBA's best love song.

That Frida track is also my fave of hers, it's brilliant. I bought that Renee & Renata hit for my grandma 3 years ago, just before she died, she loved it. cheers! john
