January 4, 201312 yr Aww, Language should have been #1. :( It's pleasing to see it in someone else's Top 20 though. :D
January 4, 201312 yr Author Here is the moment you've all been waiting for. What song is my favourite of 2012. Of all the songs that 2012 had to offer, the best two are right here in this post. :yahoo:  :party2: :o 02 - Swedish House Mafia "Greyhound" UK - #13 PC Run - (1-2-1-1-1-1-3-3-1-2-9-29-44-48-35-26-20-35-29-34-37-46-x-33-22-46-41-49-x) (27 weeks) http://listen2thisbeat.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Swedish-House-Mafia-Greyhound.jpeg Swedish House Mafia 01 Antidote 01 Greyhound 01 Don't You Worry Child 02 Miami 2 Ibiza 04 One (Your Name) 36 Save the World Following Cee-Lo Green "F**k You (Forget You)" and Rihanna "S&M", Swedish House Mafia take the Silver Medal for my EOY chart with this amazing instrumental hit. It is hard to describe and write commentary for this, thanks to it having no lyrics. It is just a great song with a beat that gets you dancing, lots of bass and a nice hook. The surprising change of hook in the middle of the song really adds to it too, before going back into the main hook but with a beefier bass. It goes without saying that my favourite version of this song is the 7 minute one. The Swedish House Mafia project will be sadly missed by me and many other people. Three superstar DJs on one record = amazingness  It would've been fitting for SHM to be my EOY #1 on their last year of producing songs, but this song released in September got in the way of that. +++++++++ 01 - PSY "Gangnam Style" UK - #1 PC Run - (5-2-2-1-1-1-2-3-2-8-10-9-6-3-2-2-6-5-) (18 weeks) http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mado387YEZ1qftxyao1_1280.jpg PSY 01 Gangnam Style Following Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup "We No Speak Americano" and LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennet & GoonRock "Party Rock Anthem", PSY gets the honor of being my favourite song of the year 2012, spending record time in my top 10. It is very similar in sound to "Party Rock Anthem" which may be why it was such a big hit for me. Korean language music was never big in my chart, but this worldwide crossover hit was massive and deservedly so. Psy seems like a nice guy from what I've heard of his interviews on Radio 1. The amazing video which has now passed 1 billion views is worth checking out if you haven't done so already. The song itself, this novelty song is better than all the rest thanks to the dance that everyone now knows, and the hooks "OPPAN GANGNAM STYLE" and "HEEEEEEYYY SEXY LADY" along with the fact that we can't understand what he's saying. The song is just a bit of fun and it's amazing that a non-English song can be this good! Fun fact; this is the 2nd non-English song to top my EOY chart after "We No Speak Americano" - so if you're reading this and you want a smash hit in my chart - you know the formula - score a massive worldwide hit with a fun song that you can dance to, no matter what language you're speaking! I thought Party Rock Anthem would be the dance craze of the decade but Gangnam Style has clearly taken over that, hopefully Psy can be more than a one-hit wonder but it's looking very unlikely that he - or any other Korean artist - will score another hit in the near future. +++++++++ Here is my EOY Chart 2012 in full. 1. January 4, 201312 yr Author OPPAN SLAYTHEM STYLE! I thought you would like seeing PSY at #1 :P It really is my favourite song of the year
January 4, 201312 yr Hi Thermometer :D Dance music represent. 1. PSY “Gangnam Style” (#1) Wow, I wonder if this is also Oricon's #1 of 2012 ( ). If someone told me a year ago that a 34 year old Korean man would have one of the biggest hits of the year, I would have laughed, then said "no". But it happened and it's one of those songs that everyone knows, regardless of their age. When that happens, you know your hit has had major impact. :D 2. Swedish House Mafia “Greyhound” (#1) The video is excellent, the track is excellent. Shame this never made the UK top 10 but maybe it was down to being 6 minutes. Had they also released a radio edit too, the combined sales might have given this the edge. Such a shame SHM have called it a day as their final 2 singles were actually my fave 2 singles. 3. Porter Robinson “Language” (#1) Dance gem, although it wore off on me and slipped down my chart fairly quickly. Still peaked at #5 for me so it did well for a short while. 4. David Guetta feat. Sia “Titanium” (#1) (#6 in 2011) 'Titanium' was my #11 of 2011 but by the start of 2012, this was working its way down my chart. The track was starting to get overkill to the point even I was getting bored of hearing this, so I stopped playing it personally so when it was played at work I didn't think "this song again". Believe it or not, 'When Love Takes Over' was a bigger hit in my chart than 'Titanium' was. :o 5. Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin “Don’t You Worry Child” (#1) C.W. summed up this track brilliant. 6. Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe” (#2) Oohh, just a #2 hit for you? Still, the fact its 6th here shows just how powerful a pop track this was. Will be interesting to see if Carly can recover from 'This Kiss' and get another hit off the album. 10. Florence + The Machine feat. Calvin Harris “Spectrum (Say My Name)” (#1) "sayyy my nnaaaaaammmmmeee" My #2 of 2012, just adore this remix. 12. Gotye feat. Kimbra “Somebody That I Used To Know” (#1) My #3 of 2011 and also one of the most successful singles of all time in my chart. 33. Loreen “Euphoria” (#1) My #1 of 2012, incredible song to say it was custom made for Eurovision. I guess we'll never know but had this been given a normal release with UK radio support (and a better music video) I reckon this would've been successful like Agnes 'Release Me' and Robyn 'With Every Heartbeat'. As far as Eurovision goes, it's the best winner the contest has had for a long time. 54. EDX “Touched” (#1) Got to no. 10 in my chart. Keep up the excellent work in BJSC, who knows you might even win your first contest if you enter a dance track with mass appeal. 63. Ivan Gough & Fenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay & Axwell “In My Mind” (#6) So glad you made a great discovery here. I'm hoping I can have at least one big hit in BJSC during 2013. To go all year and not get 1 entry in TBO or The Rejects is a bit disappointing. :(
January 4, 201312 yr Author Hi Thermometer :D Hi Hits :D Dance music represent. Yes! Dance music can always be found in my personal chart  1. :D Unfortunately it's not #1 with Oricon :( However it is great that the unexpected happened, who knows what worldwide smashes 2013 will bring? 2. They did release a radio edit in the end, through the NOW compilation - but that was way too late :( Oh well at least people got to appreciate the full song *.* 3. Porter Robinson “Language” (#1) Dance gem, although it wore off on me and slipped down my chart fairly quickly. Still peaked at #5 for me so it did well for a short while. Top 5 is still amazing! If only it did that officially and stuck around for ages instead of being the most frontloaded top 10 hit of the year 4. I'll be very surprised if David Guetta returns with a song in the future that can outdo 'Titanium'. I haven't listened to this out of choice recently, it's safe to say I've heard it A LOT this year - thanks to overplay from radio and from me! 5. Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin “Don’t You Worry Child” (#1) C.W. summed up this track brilliant. I read that commentary too  6. Carly Rae Jepsen “Call Me Maybe” (#2) Oohh, just a #2 hit for you? Still, the fact its 6th here shows just how powerful a pop track this was. Will be interesting to see if Carly can recover from 'This Kiss' and get another hit off the album. It spent 3 weeks at #2, funnily enough 2 of them were behind my #8, Silhouettes. It just goes to show that CMM has lasting appeal  10. Florence + The Machine feat. Calvin Harris “Spectrum (Say My Name)” (#1) "sayyy my nnaaaaaammmmmeee" My #2 of 2012, just adore this remix. It is very amazing  Great to see it so high in your chart :D 12. Gotye feat. Kimbra “Somebody That I Used To Know” (#1) My #3 of 2011 and also one of the most successful singles of all time in my chart. According to my current chart runs/points system, it is my #2 song of the year behind Gangnam Style. I was addicted to this song in the first half but it got old in the 2nd half. It is still good, worthy of a top 20 place! I like to base my chart on opinion, thanks to the fierce competition in the final quarter and the dry period in the first quarter (this is why this song had such a long chart run) 33. If the radio actually played it, I think it could've been a long running top ten hit! Not ridiculously long like Gotye but a good 7 weeks top 10, people obviously liked it if one performance was enough to get it to #3! 54. EDX “Touched” (#1) Got to no. 10 in my chart. Keep up the excellent work in BJSC, who knows you might even win your first contest if you enter a dance track with mass appeal. I will keep entering dance tunes and hoping for the best :P Unfortunately the tastes of BJSC entrants is either hipster indie or pop 63. Ivan Gough & Fenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay & Axwell “In My Mind” (#6) So glad you made a great discovery here. I'm hoping I can have at least one big hit in BJSC 2012. To go all year and not get 1 entry in TBO or The Rejects is a bit disappointing. :( If you send tunes like this then I will be supporting it :yahoo: Thanks for commenting :D Brilliant top 10! Thanks for commenting :D
January 4, 201312 yr Hey Dan, really good list! Here's a few comments: :D 1. PSY “Gangnam Style” (#1) Don't think there's much else to say about this, but truly a defining record of 2012 2. Swedish House Mafia “Greyhound” (#1) This is really great, I love how it builds and builds but still keeps that same beat, it sounded so innovative for them, shame about Antidote though - I really didn't like that and it ruined an otherwise perfect end to them 34. Calvin Harris feat. Ne-Yo “Let’s Go” (#12) Unlike some, This was actually my favourite of his singles, I didn't think much of Sweet Nothing 50. Laurentiu Duta feat. Andreea Banica “Shining Heart” (#1) My favourite of your BJSC entries, their voices harmonise really well! 57. Emma Hewitt “Colours” (#1) I was a bit late to the party with this one, but this was an excellent winner, gorgeous voice  62. DJ Fresh feat. RaVaughn “The Feeling” (#5) I can see how it didn't do much in the charts, but I actually think this is my favourite by him. Its very infectious 65. Ellie Goulding “Anything Could Happen” (#2) There was better on her album, but this was a great comeback. I really liked her new dark image, feels a lot more developed than the girl that sang Starry Eyed Edited January 4, 201312 yr by C.W

I really liked her new dark image, feels a lot more developed than the girl that sang Starry Eyed Hi CW! 01 - It's definately one that will be remembered in years to come, even if just for the dance and the video  02 - Obviously I really loved Antidote, but Greyhound was better for me for reasons explained in your post :D 34 - All of Calvin's singles have been of a very high standard, the 5 taken from 18 Months all made my EOY chart (as well as album track Awooga and Rihanna collab We Found Love) Let's Go is a very good party song, but I prefer Sweet Nothing thanks to choice of vocalist and inspired lyrics! 50 - The ending where they both sing together is especially great I agree! 57 - A well deserved winner - I charted this song even before it got entered into BJSC! :o 62 - It is a catchy song like all of his singles so far. Hopefully having to re-release Gold Dust doesn't mean he has no good album tracks to release as singles ;) 65 - I wouldn't call Anything Could Happen 'dark' personally. :P "Figure 8" is heading more towards that way with the dubstep - and as I haven't listened to any of her album tracks I don't know what the general style of the album is - it is a change of direction from the light (pun intended) first album, which I like from pop artists. Thanks for commenting :D

Loreen “Euphoria” (#1) Hi Rich 01 - Nothing screams 2012 more than Gangnam Style - Carly comes close but not quite there ;) 04 - Actually it was #86 in my chart of last year :P "#6 in 2011" refers to it's weekly chart peak in that year. 16 - I really wanted this song to smash but only #14 officially and a few weeks T40 :( Even I wasn't interested after that, I haven't listened to the follow-up. 25 - It is quite amazing that a dance song can have so much longevity and peak lowly! 33 - Thanks for commenting :D
