January 1, 201312 yr Author Ok, I'm in the mood to blast through this so let's get to the top 50: #65 - iamamiwhoami - drops #64 - No Doubt - Push And Shove (Feat. Busy Signal and Major Lazer) #63 - Namie Amuro - Only You #62 - Carrie Underwood - Who Are You? #61 - Emeli Sande - Read All About It (Pt. III) http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KbLioVjNhNw/UEi4LsqLAEI/AAAAAAAAWB0/bmcB_HINqrI/s1600/emeli-sande-read-all-about-it-pt-iii.jpg So a pretty mixed bag in this set, starting off with one of the very best tracks (drops) from one of the very best albums of the year (kin) - not THE best though. Moving on to the title track from No Doubt's latest album, which is quite a marvellous mix of styles and the contrast between the fast paced verses and the slower, more melodic chorus is brilliant. Namie Amuro giving Engrish her best stab is up at #63 with the rather marvellous Only You and Carrie is voxing it out of the park at 62 with the closing track from Blown Away - Who Are You. Rounding off this set is the little known talant Emeli Sande with the relatively unknown single Read All About It, I can't help but feel a BIG performance of 5 might have helped propel it to the success it deserved.
January 1, 201312 yr Author Can't stand Little Mix, especially Wings To use the phrase du jour round these parts... DIE
January 1, 201312 yr Author #60 - Karen Viuff - Universe #59 - Chvrches - The Mother We Share #58 - Petra Marklund - Förlorad Värld #57 - SoSo - Who's Gonna Love Me? #56 - Saint Saviour - The Fain Falls On The Just http://www.cafemaroon.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Saint-Saviour_union.jpg A rather BJSC heavy set this time, with 3/5 having been entered at one point, NONE by myself though I did consider Saint Saviour and tried for both Churches and SoSo. Karen Viuff is yet another NF entrant - this time from Denmark and whilst she and Universe are both quite BASIC in their charms, it's very charming all the same. Petra is up with the first track from Inferno and never one to dismiss a gorgeously sung ballad I've been playing Förlorad Värld LOTS since the album's release.
January 1, 201312 yr Author They are completely shit! They have great harmonies (and voices on their own) and make fantastic pop music with massive hooks and good production = LUV
January 1, 201312 yr Author #55 - Eric Saade - Marching (In The Name Of Love) #54 - Madonna - Masterpiece #53 - iamamiwhoami - kill #52 - Jennifer Lopez - Dance Again (Feat. Pitbull) #51 - Frost - The Woods http://www.jajajamusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/frost_norway.jpg Despite Eric having only released 2 singles on his own in late 2012 (as part of a compilation of his best work as his first album in some European countries) that hasn't stopped Marching making it onto my playlist of the last few months. It's obviously no Popular, it's not even a Hotter Than Fire, but it's a nice little melodic pop song. Madonna up next, I've already mentioned that three songs from MDNA have gone down as favourites of mine and this is the first of the 3. It's by no means a CLASSIC Madonna ballad, but in 2012 it's about as good as we're likely to get and the ''Nothing's indestructible'' repeat in the middle of the song is just perfect. iamamiwhoami up next with their highest placed song - kill - it took a while to grow on me, but whereas some tracks on the album don't hold up to individual play, kill does very well. J Lo is up at 52 with Dance Again, the lead single from her GH which saw her reunite with Pitbull to recreate On The Floor. It didn't, naturally, and ended up being a fleeting hit. For me it's a MUCH better song though, Pitbull's rap in particular is something I've come to LOVE. ''Is he really worldwide - UHH, YES!!'' being the highlight. Last up we have Norwegian electropop act Frost with their lovely slice of norwegian electropop in the form of The Woods.
January 1, 201312 yr Haha, I did try my best to REWORD but obviously a few slipped through the net. Have you heard Rumer's song from the Johnny English Reborn soundtrack? It's basically her stab at a Bond song and it's jolly good stuff. You'll be waiting a while, but I expect you knew that anyway! No I haven't, what's it called, I'll give it a listen! And yes, I'm fully expecting Harlot to be in the top five! Had completely forgotten about Universe and Masterpiece even though they were both sizeable top 20 hits for me, by the time the end of the year rolls around these early year mid-table hits for me are near-forgotten memories!

January 2, 201312 yr Author #50 - Niki & The Dove - Tomorrow #49 - Mandy Capristo - Hurricane #48 - Lise Karlsnes - Sailors #47 - Saint Lou Lou - Maybe You #46 - Ditte Marie - Overflow http://25.media.tumblr.com/eadaf74f6ec9941eeb38db901fdcf120/tumblr_mfqv15qWbQ1qzzk0ao1_500.jpg The first batch inside the top 50 features 2 more NF entrants: Lisa Karlsnes and the marvellous Sailors tried to represent Norway (and failed obv), but in the process ended up producing her best song, even if the full 4 minute and something version is better than the Eurovision edit. We also say HI to Danish Ditte Marie, who after failing in 2011 with Le Freak, tried her hand at doing it solo (and also failed) - but Overflow is also an absolutely corking song and infinitely better than the CRAP that did end up winning - I mean does the world really need the UNHOLY MIX that is Janet Devlin Cherly 0r whatever her name was? We stick with Scandinavia for 2 more of this set too, Swedish sisters Saint Lou Lou might just have popped up in 2012, but Maybe You sounds like the start of something VERY GOOD. I've already mentioned how much I love Tomorrow when discussing 'Instinct', but just to recap, it's my favourite song from Niki & The Dove thus far and matches a super strong chorus with their trademark slightly dark/indiepop production. Finally it's time for Mandy Capristo to SHINE, 2012 saw her release her debut solo album (the aforementioned Grace) and whilst it's not quite as good as the parting Monrose album, it contains 2 of the top 3 Monrose related tracks (imo). Hurricane has a HUGE chorus and Mandy sings it with suitable gusto, it's just a shame they didn't make it a single.
January 6, 201312 yr Get on with it John :o Nice to see Lise here but I still far prefer the mighty Red Hot! Sailors and Overflow weren't far outside my top 100...
January 14, 201312 yr Author Time to get this DONE: #45 - Le Kid - Human Behaviour #44 - Pair Of Arrows - Vestige #43 - Timoteij - Tabu #42 - Lena Philipsson - Live Tomorrow #41 - Charli XCX - You're The One #40 - Steps - Light Up The World #39 - Madonna - Love Spent #38 - Anggun - Echo (You & I) #37 - First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar #36 - Reidun Saether - High On Love #35 - HAERTS - Wings #34 - Katharine McPhee - Don't Forget Me #33 - Gossip - Get A Job #32 - Greta & Jonsi - Never Forget #31 - Rihanna - Diamonds #30 - Ricki-Lee - World Disappears #29 - Leona Lewis - Come Alive #28 - Faye - Water Against The Rocks #27 - Queen Of Hearts - Warrior #26 - Sunday Girl - Human Love #25 - Charlottre Qvale - The Beginning Of The End #24 - Agnes - Watching It Burn #23 - Little Mix - Wings #22 - Jessie Ware - Wildest Moments #21 - A*M*E - Play The Game Boy #20 - No Doubt - Easy #19 - Sky Ferreira - Everything Is Embarrassing #18 - Mandy Capristo - Closer #17 - Paloma Faith - Picking Up The Pieces #16 - P!nk - Try #15 - Timoteij - Högre #14 - The Storm - Raver #13 - Charlotte Perrelli - In The Sun #12 - Molly Sanden - A Little Forgiveness (Feat. Christopher) #11 - Petra Marklund - Händerna Mot Himlen
January 14, 201312 yr Author #10 - Scissor Sisters - Somewhere Whilst Magic Hour itself might have been a let down, it did deliver one of their very best ever tracks in the form of Somewhere. It's not quite Invisible Light levels of good, but it runs it a close second for me. It's so melodic and Jake's voice works brilliantly on it and the middle 8 which runs on a totally awkward sounding melody compared with the rest of the song works perfectly. #09 - Katharine McPhee & Megan Hilty - Let Me Be Your Star The unofficial 'theme tune' for SMASH, this song is SO utterly voxtastic, especially the last minute or so when they come together. It works so well with the scene in the show with them doing their own things in preparation for the big audition. It works brilliantly outside the show too though, unlike a lot of the more musical numbers. #08 - Jess Mills - For My Sins Poor old Jess has been plugging away for ages, despite a lot of blog love, it's never happened. With her album due out in a few weeks I doubt it ever will, but if this is the quality of material on it it should be GREAT at the very least. #07 - Little Mix - DNA Wings is a towering work of brilliance and by some way the best #1 of 2012, however DNA really upped the game and then some. I can understand why it didn't do as well, but for me it's pretty much the perfect melding of what were the big pop sounds of 2012 with an actually brilliant and amazing HOOK - which this has in abundance. #06 - Tone Damli - Imagine (Feat. Eric Saade) So Eric does once again manage a top 10 placing for the 3rd year running in my year end lists. I'm not a massive Tone fan, a lot of her music is a little bit dull and similar sounding. Imagine is her first attempt at anything properly removed from a ballad and judging by the reception to this I hope it convinces her to do it more. You wouldn't imagine Eric's voice working on this kind of sort of stripped back track, but it does sound surprisingly strong and they bring the best out in each other. Plus the video is HOT.
January 14, 201312 yr Author #05 - Delta Goodrem - Sitting On Top Of The World If someone had told me Delta was going to come out with a career best single in 2012 I would have laughed right in their face (assuming it wasn't online, when I would have mocked them ceaselessly), but she did just that. It is physically impossible, at least for me, not to listen to this with a massive smile on my face. It just exudes JOY from every single note and the video, as cheap as it was, did a great job of putting that across. It did the business in Aus too, giving her her biggest hit in YEARS. #04 - Madonna - I'm Addicted BOO. HISS. ETC. Yes, it's fun to hate on her, and she obviously has fallen VERY FAR over the last few years and albums, however I'm Addicted is an absolutely brilliant pop song and when listening to it I can just about forget the state of her career/the output. The MDNA chant is obviously the highlight of the song and nicely ties in with the title of the album, I think the song also comes rather close to capturing the Madonna of old, obviously not to Ray of Light levels, but still she shows more engagement on this one track than most of the rest of the album put together. I really do think had this been lead single things might not have been QUITE so bad. #03 - Pastora Soler - Quedate Conmigo Now for yet another voxtastic number, this time from Eurovision and the first Spanish entry to claim my favourite ESC song of the year. I've seen a lot of people criticise the fact that this is basically just an excuse for her to vox it out of the park, and she does. However I think it's also a very strong song in its own right, especially from the key change onwards. Her empassioned NOOOOOOOOOOOO being a particular highlight. There was an English translation, but it was so clunky I've barely listened to it, at least in Spanish I can't understand a word she's saying. #02 - Florrie - To The End The little Xenomania siphon once again popped out a new EP in 2012, sadly not as good as the previous 2, but apparently she's keeping the best stuff for her major label debut this year *.* To The End is essentially PERFECT POP in my opinion. It's got an absolutely massive chorus, which gets stuck in your head after one listen and makes you want to hit repeat. The middle 8/outro follows quite standard Xenomania territory, in that it doesn't do what you expect at all. Florrie's vocals, whilst not amazing or anything, are strong and work very well with the song - she really is perfect for them to hang their big grand pop productions on.
January 14, 201312 yr SO MUCH VAGINA I CANNOT. (like I'm the one to talk tho oops) ((although it's not as SEVERE as this vadgexplosition)) Edited January 14, 201312 yr by パーベル
January 14, 201312 yr Author SO OF COURSE THAT CAN MEAN ONLY ONE THING..... ................... ................... ............................ ..
January 14, 201312 yr Author #01 - Charlotte Perrelli - The Girl BUT OF COURSE. It couldn't have been anything else, from the moment I heard it, I knew it was going to be a long time favourite of mine. It's no Hero, but then WHAT IS. It's still an utterly fantastic pop song in every way. Obviously the tale of MF12 for Charlotte was not a pleasant one, but at least it gave us another corking song and a decent supporting album. From the Mamma Mia-esque intro (Kempe once again showing just how ORIGINAL he is) through the pulsating production of the verses into the pop explosion in the chorus it just all works so well.
January 14, 201312 yr Author Look Pavel, there's NOUT wrong with VAGINA. So long as I don't have to look at one.
