Most of the great hits of the year feature in this list, so it's not a bad list (of course I would think that).

Now, when I see I like all types of music, I mean it. Try and find a theme in this bag and you will be confused: dance, urban, rave, country, reggae, rock, indie, pop, classical, Irish folk, 60's novelty, rap, world music, disco, MOR, ballad...and more. It was a mixed year, really, though Britpop grabbed the headlines they didn't necessarily dominate the charts as much as you'd think. Compare and contrast to today's much-less-thematically-varied singles charts.

Deserved # 1 for "Earth Song".

"Human Nature" and "You'll See" are some last # 1 singles for Madonna in my charts. [Last: Don't Cry For Me Argentina in 1996]. Both would be in my top 5 for 1995.

This year was a debut for the one from my favourite girl bands ever Me & My, their first single "Dub-I-Dub" was a hit in Europe, but not in UK.

Thanks Alex,

I don't know Me & My at all, I'm afraid:(

You might want to check out Deuce, though, a boy-girl pop band who had a few poppy hits, including the wonderful On The Bible:)

cheers

Me & My (Susanne Georgi and Pernille Georgi) are a Danish dance and pop sister duo signed under the EMI record label.

Maybe you remember Susanne Georgi, which represent Andorra on Eurovision 2009 with "Get A Life".

They are best known for their first international hit song "Dub-I-Dub" (1995).

First album "Me & My" sold 627,520 copies in Japan.

In 2007 Me & My finally got to take part in the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (national selection for Eurovision Song Contest) with the song "Two Are Stronger Than One". On February 2, they qualified from the semi final to the final, which was held on February 10. Even though they were the bookmakers' favourites to win, Me & My only managed to get 8 points, finishing 6th.

On December 1, 2007, Me & My released their first single in 6 years since La La Superstar in 2001 - a Christmas ballad called "Too Much Christmas".

My favourite songs here:

Two Are Stronger Than One

Too Much Christmas

I forgot about this perfect song in my Christmas countdown.

Let The Love Go On

It was always a strange year for me - the height of britpop but I always preferred 1994 and 1996. Still, great singles.

Thanks Anthony, yes I often prefer years on either side of some years, it's odd! I really liked 1993, for example, then most of the years were good, and peaked again in 1997, before declining for 3 or 4 years.. Or with me, 1981 and 1983 were much better than 1982...

thanks for the listing!

cheers

john:)

Dreadful Top 2 but including one of my most hated #1s.

But there is some right decent stuff further down.

Easily the best single of 95 was Common People.

Oh, and I have to agree with you on Common People!

Edited by ★ G R I E F ★

I honestly never got Common People. I prefer Disco 2000.

I like Disco 2000, but Common People is one of my favourite songs of all time! (I need to make a list soon! :P)

Earth fukkin Song. Fukkin messianic complex gone totally out of control.

It literally makes my skin crawl from the very first chords of the song.

Not that I'm overly fond of Back for Good either. I just don't care about that song at all. A total irrelevency.

Where is Roxette?

Hi:) The first 4 singles off Crash Boom Bang were all 1994, most of 'em went Top 10 for me, the last two singles I didn't get to hear...:(

cheers!

Common People is one of the candidates for best single of the 90's. It's one of those rare classics that improves with age and never gets boring...

cheers!

Jacko had definitely lost the plot by 1995, this was his last great moment. Well OTT so I can see why it's despised by many, but I kinda agree with the lyrics, being an old hippie sentimentalist. (Makes a change from "Girl I wanna do it to you" or "Look at the size of my vocal range" type stuff at any rate.. :)

Take That in the 90's were largely well-over-rated, but they had three golden pop moments, and I speak as someone who spent 10 years slagging them off....! Robbie's first album was better than their whole 90's career...

cheers!

john
