Posted August 16, 200618 yr YouTube in talks with major labels Source: Music Week Reports in the US this morning suggest that both Warner Music and EMI are in discussion with the founders of YouTube to make video content legitimately available on the service. Co-founder Steve Chen has told reporters that the website, which is currently one of the most popular on the internet serving up 100m viewers per day, is negotiating deals with all the major label groups to make music videos available on the service. It is thought that the videos will be free-to-access and supported by an advertising-funded model, from which the labels will take a revenue share. As yet, the major label groups in the UK are yet to confirm the proposal.

I find it strange now, why some get pulled whilst others stay and wonder what's behind that as it is? but I agree it sounds like the death knoll is sounding on freedom and diversity altogether :( edit: Mind you one of the top rated videos on YouTube right now is THIS ONE re: Save the Internet - so maybe we should be concerned about the freedom of the whole thing and not just the music, though maybe that's a topic for another forum ;) Edited August 22, 200618 yr by Secret_Song
August 23, 200618 yr Why do all the major labels have to get involved? YouTube will now be RUINED. is like myspace, if it can be harnessed to sell even more records and then it will. and i suppose myspace doesnt really have that cool usp now everybody knows that News International is behind it. so i suppose if you wanna get some indie points on your scrorecard at the moment you gotta say well mine was the most viewed on youtube with so many people watching it :down like here [flash=450,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fb21_w4uU1A.swf
