From ESC Today:

CyBC, the Cypriot national broadcaster has informed Esctoday.com and confirmed their participation at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo next May. CyBC had confirmed their participation to Esctoday last October. Since then there have been rumours and speculations that the country might withdraw from the contest due to the financial crisis.

Last night during a meeting held by CyBC it was decided that Cyprus will compete at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest.

Also ESC Daily have tweeted:

Giorgos Papadopoulos is set to be announced as the representative of CYPRUS in Malmö. We should expect an official announcement SOON! #esc

Glad to see Cyprus will be competing as they are probably my favourite ESC country of all! :cheer:

There has apparently been rumours that Giorgios submitted a rock ballad to the Cypriot broadcaster but they are looking for something else, probably more similar to 'La La Love' and its pop-dance sound. That's resulted in rumours of Nikki Ponte and even Ivi again being chosen, but the latest rumour is Valando Trifonos who was in the Greek NF with Nikki in 2011. It was also rumoured that a record label would pay for a small national final containing upcoming singers but that's seems to have gone quiet too.

All of those names mentioned seem to be brilliant choices, let's see what happens!

Apparently Cyprus have chosen Valando Trifonos as their representative for the 2013 contest!! I really hope this is true as I loved 'The Time Is Now' which she performed at the 2011 Greek national final!

Cyprus: Valando Trifonos Selected Internally?

Cyprus have selected 24-year old singer Valando Trifonos to represent them at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, according to several sources online including eurovision-spain.com.

The singer is no stranger to Eurovision fans, having attempted to represent Cyprus in their 2006 national final with “After You”, and more recently trying to sing for Greece in their 2011 national final with “The Time is Now”. Valando also won the first season of ‘Greek Idol’.

More details will be released by CyBC in the coming days.

ESCDaily.com has been informed that Despina Olympiou will be representing Cyprus in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest to be hosted this May in Malmö.

As far as ESCDaily.com have been informed, Andreas Giorgallis will be in charge of composing the entry, who was behind Cyprus’ ninth placed entry back in 1996, “Mono Gia Mas” performed by Constantinos Christoforou. The lyrics will reportedly be written by Zinonas Zintilis (ESC 1998 lyricist and National Finals in 1999 & 2010).

After weeks of speculation, it has finally been revealed that Despina Olympiou will be representing Cyprus in Malmö this year.

According to the press release from CyBC, the song will be a ballad with Greek lyrics and will be premiered in the middle of February.

Despina is also rumoured to be a guest of the Greek National Final which is scheduled to take place on Monday 18th February and if this is the case, it’s likely that we’ll hear the Cypriot a song a few days before then.

The title of the song is Na Me Thymase, which translates into English as Remember Me and has been confirmed to be released on 14th February here.
It's nice. Sadly going to be shunned in the Semis.

Really like it!! A classic ballad with great vocals, it is in the 2nd half of the semi so could qualify with a good draw! Great entry from Cyprus once again!

Beautiful entry from Cyprus. Gorgeous vocals and a very strong ballad. I think this is a contender for the crown. I have Johanna vibes with this.

Despoina Olympiou is very popular in Greece too. She had relationship with Mihalis Hatzigiannis for many years. Mihalis represented Cyprus 15 years ago. He wrote all her biggest hits. "Thimamai Osa Eixes Pei (Remember All That You Said)" was her most successful song here. But i like her up tempo single "Pes To Dynata/ (Say It Loudly), "Kapote" (Sometime) and my favourite of hers is "Pano Stin Agapi Sou (One Top Of The Love) "!! Love it Love It Love It!! This should be a Eurovision song!!

Today, Despina took part in a Eurovision.tv webchat as part of what seems to be a new "Meet the Artist" series of webchats! :D This seems to be a great idea and I found the interview really interesting!

I've just found out that Annet Artani who represented Cyprus in 2006 with 'Why Angels Cry' and finished 15th in the semi final, co-wrote 'Everytime' with Britney after making friends with her after becoming her backing vocalist! Incredible! :o

Also, speaking of 'Why Angels Cry', it is a great song the Annet performed absolutely amazingly! Can't believe it didn't make the final!
