James Arthur is about as interesting as a spoon and his version of that song is awful.

A spoon can be very interesting i'll have you know. :mansoncheer:

Haus - Oh I definitely agree Ellie's first era was better, Lights and Under The Sheets are easily her best still and I doubt she'll ever beat them

Reggie - Oh no he'll never be as intriguing as Matt Cardle and his Gary Barlow penned SMASHES :D

I lied in my commentary for Miranda Lambert, this is the 2nd of two songs that didn't reach my personal chart top 3 to chart on my EOY! The sexiest man alive couldn't quite fit dat amazing ass into the top 10 (it's crowded) so he has to settle for 13th with this Maroon 5 sounding piece of catchy pop perfection. Despite only peaking at #4, this beats many #1s to place respectably on my EOY chart, and it's back on the up in my chart after I got majorly into it again! This became Olly's 4th UK number 1 and is still in the top 5 on iTunes.

(and just as Haus said spoons can be interesting, we get Olly Murs coming up - how convenient!)

The 4th highest placed UK #1 in this EOY next, just missing out on the top 10! This is the first year since my chart started Rihanna hasn't had a top 10 year end hit, as Only Girl made it in 2010 and California King Bed made it in 2011, but this downtempo track is still absolutely brilliant! Written by Sia, this shows Rihanna's vocals off more than most of her songs in the past, and is a pleasing new(ish) direction for her. Deservedly her 6th solo UK #1 (8th overall), Diamonds is a shining (pun intended) example of Rihanna's amazingness.

Another UK #1 next, one of the defining songs of the year Call Me Maybe. First released in October 2011 in her native Canada, it came to my attention before most people, and then I loved it with Ramyrnia (Ryan741) entering it into BJSC. Come January, it was a UK #1 and msot of the world followed suit. An absolutely perfect pure pop song, this would probably have made it top 5 (definitely top 10) in my 2011 EOY, that's how much better 2012 has been for me singles wise!

More flop stanning now, as my country Queen Carrie only makes #10 with the first of two entries for her. Good Girl led her 4th album, and was her poppiest single to date (although maintaining a mainly country-rock sound), with brilliant vocals, a catchy hook and a great video. It could have been big in the UK if pushed, but for now she'll have to make do with a #11 album and a #155 SMASH HIT single :(

Continuing the top 10 is the first original single from 2011 X-Factor champions Little Mix, following their #1 single Cannonball, a Damien Rice cover. Wings is an assuring pop stomper with military sounding drum beats, great melodies and fabulous vocals. Falling somewhere in between Beyonce, Alesha Dixon and Pussycat Dolls, Wings is a brilliant pop track that thoroughly cemented Little Mix as the most interesting girlband to emerge since Girls Aloud.

The final of Florence's 2 entries in this countdown is the fabulous Spectrum. The album version was brilliant enough, a dark, brooding baroque pop epic but a touch of Calvin Harris made the song into a euphoric pulsing house anthem. Florence's pipes are more than capable of carrying a dance anthem, just the same as a dark indie song. A worthy multi week UK #1 and Florence's biggest hit, this is one of her very finest moments.

Call me a flop stan or whatever, but a tough year with so many amazing singles sees my country Queen at 'only' #7 with her highest entry in this EOY. Blown Away is the title track to her 4th album, and was released as the second single. Less country than anything she's released previously, Blown Away is an U2-esque pop/rock epic with a touch of country, and could easily be released by Adele and sell millions. Having got to #155 in the UK just off of album cherrypicks, this could've smashed internationally given a chance. Easily the highlight of a brilliant album.

Hey Liam! Great see "Call Me Maybe" high up here, despite being agonisingly close to the top 10. I'm surprised anyone would admit to being that big a fan of "30 Days" I don't dislike it, I thought the video in particular was great, but the release felt very half-arsed.

I'm guessing there's a track or two by Taylor still to come (definitely "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"), "Euphoria", and then my mind goes blank! :P Great chart so far though :D

Yeah, it's a brilliant pure pop song  Like I said it would have been top 10 with ease in 2011 (maybe top 5!) but this year was so much better for singles. I love 30 Days, although I agree the release was blatantly solely to make sure they weren't totally forgotten, not that it's worked

You might be right, wait and see :P

Fun fact: this song was originally meant to Italy's Eurovision entry 2012 after Emma won Sanremo, but the entry was changed to Nina Zilli's Per Sempre (and later changed again to L'amore è feminina, also by Nina Zilli).

Not true. Emma was never chosen as an Italian representative for Eurovision 2012. she just won Sanremo.

Just missing the top 5, it's back to Asia for the highest K-pop entry of this countdown. Girlgroup 2NE1 basically led K-pop into Western culture, albiet with not much mainstream success, and then bloody PSY comes and obliterates them. Anyway, I Love You is a euphorically amazing europop track with K-Pop sensibilities. Longing oohs and sweet 'I Love You-ooooh's punctuate the dance-pop beat. A slightly new sound for 2NE1, this sort of thing could easily break them through.

'But you didn't have to cut me off, make out like it never happened and that we were nothing'

The biggest selling hit of 2012 in the UK falls 4 places short of EOY glory for me. A 2011 hit in Australia, this slow burner came to my attention in 2011 but much like most people it only hit me in late 2011/early 2012, hitting #1 for me in January. A brilliant counter to the barrage of 'in da club' generic dance tracks, this sparse alternative track blends Gotye's brooding voice and Kimbra's passion to form a truly defining track of 2012.

NONONONONONONONONONONONONONOO. I loathe Gotye.

In 4th place is a perfect pop/rock anthem from, of all people to go pure pop, Taylor Swift. This catchy as herpes track spread like wildfire upon release, giving her success worldwide she has never seen and catapaulting her to worldwide domination rather than just dominating the US! It has split her old fans, who feel like she has sold out for success, but I remain a hardcore fan and love her even more with the new pop sound. And no Regina, nobody needs your inevitable shade.

MUCH better than the original :smoke:

'There's something 'bout his kiss, contaminates my lips, our energy connects, it's simple genetics'

A late in the year chart smash now (well in my chart anyway), as girlband Little Mix, my favourite new act of 2012, smash in with their 2nd entry in the top 10 at #3. The follow-up to the self confidence anthem Wings, DNA is a slick, polished perfect pop track that could easily fit with the Xenomania classics from Girls Aloud. With a gothic choral breakdown, haunting middle 8 and perfected vocals throughout, this is an astonishingly striking pop track that really put Little Mix firmly on the map, cementing what Wings hinted at - these girls are a real exciting pop act and they are here to impress.

OK so only the top 2 left now, should be fairly obvious (well maybe just for me because I've known them for ages )!
