Could this actually be happening? Wouldn't be too much of a surprise and what a worthy follow-up to "The Social Network Song" it would be.

PLEASE DO IT San Marino! It's not like you have much better on offer. And we could finally get a micro-nation through a semi, potentially.
San Marino's 2008 entry was sublime, but they sucked big time after that. :(

THIS. Complice remains the best thing they ever did. (The best Italian language entry of the noughties too).

The artist that will represent San Marino will be announced by the end of this month:

Mr. Carlo Romeo, the General Director of the Sammarinese national broadcaster SMTV gave an interview to their local journal Giornale, where he confirmed that San Marino will be present in Malmö, and that they are currently choosing the fourth ever entry of San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Mr. Romeo said that they have received four credible applications from artists who wish to represent San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest, two of which came from international stars. SMTV has now engaged music experts to be members of their jury which will decide on who will fly the Sammarinese flag in Sweden this May.

He was also asked about Lys Assia, who was rumoured to represent San Marino by many online media. He said: "Lots of Internet websites dedicated to Eurovision talk about this Swiss singer, but I prefer to announce the selection of our artist by the end of the month in a press conference where the entire team will also be presented." Lys Assia however denied the rumours about her representing San Marino in Eurovision this year.

Alessandro Capicchioni has been engaged once again as the Head of Delegation of San Marino in Eurovision. He says that their goal this year is to reach the Final, and that they are working hard to do well this year.

Let's be frank here. They just don't have anyone else! :D

Valentina

She can be a messiah for saving Eurovision in this awful year. :cheer:

P.S. : I don't believe in Krista's success in Finnish preselection. :(

I was properly :manson: when I heard about this, but apparently the song's in Italian so I'm cautiously optimistic.
Well it's probably going to be better than that AWFUL Lys Assia track. As long as the song is decent and more suited to her age this time, I think Valentina could do alright!

This news has genuinely made my day. Just the thought of seeing her on stage again fills me with joy even if it isn't another "The Social Network Song".

Yeah, cos the language makes ANY difference to how good a song is.

I think it can make ALL the difference. Maybe this is just a linguist thing (ask Pavel) but for example, I HATE I Have A Dream by ABBA, but love Estoy Soñando. Added to that you get a certain impression from a choice of language, being in Italian it's likely to be a gorgeous ballad or at least mid tempo.

English language is the best language for songs.

I dislike the songs on French, Spanish and Italian very much.

Well OK, it can make the difference in terms of masking clunky lyrics for things like ABBA - but like, I don't see what difference it could make for a Siegel-penned Monetta track. Social Network Song would've come off just as trashy in Italian last year, only without the added hot mess element.

I think the song being in Italian is a good sign too. Just because they are less likely to do another novelty song due to less people being able to understand what's going on in the song. Plus it's always better to hear natural singing in a native tongue without any horrible accents (HAI Anmary).
