SOME NOTES

*I think 2012 has been pretty good for music. I’d say it’s been of a similar standard to 2011 on the whole, but a little better in terms of chart music.

*The lack of One Direction probably means I should accept that my obsession with them has absolutely nothing to do with their music.

*I’m not sure how I feel about the amount of X-Factor related acts present (Little Mix, Misha B, Amelia Lily, Leona Lewis, Aiden Grimshaw). Instead of judging me, I think we should pity Alexandra Burke for her lack of inclusion instead.

*I may or may not end up regret putting ‘Something New’ at #2 in a few years when it doesn’t age well, but right now I’m so hyped for seeing them in March that I don’t care.

*’I Love It’ is just the defining song of 2012 for me. I could write essays on it.

*There’s perhaps a little too much artist repetition – Marina, Lana, Jessie Ware, Dragonette and AlunaGeorge all feature with 3 songs each.

*It could be disputed that some of these songs aren’t really 2012 songs. I thought ‘Niggas In Paris’ was more of a 2011 song, but it apparently charted this year, so we’ll just go with that.

*I’m not even sure what really counts as a single anymore. CHVRCHES are counting ‘The Mother We Share’ as their first single, but ‘Lies’ had a video, and my little head really just can’t cope with all this confusion.

*I nearly included ‘Call Me Maybe’, but then realised that I mostly only listen to it after I drunkenly stumble back to my flat at 5am.

*I very nearly included a list of the 10 worst albums of the year, but then realised that would be a bit mean, and also, they were really just disappointing albums, not bad albums as such. The list would have included Rihanna, The xx, Two Door Cinema Club and Animal Collective. There would have been some albums which genuinely were bloody terrible of course – Tulisa, Marcus Collins.

*I’m probably going to spend the rest of my life changing my mind about the order of the top 3. They are all amazing. Jessie Ware wins out purely because whenever I try and list out my favourites from that album, I end up naming every single track.

*Marina’s album is probably the one I’ve listened to the most, but it has issues here and there.

*Scandinavia continues to deliver amazing pop music – Icona Pop, Amanda Mair, Agnes.

*Yes, I really have included Ke$ha. Don’t look at me like that, it’s an amazing album.

*The high tier of the singles list had quite a few songs which had done well chart wise, but this isn’t really the case as such for the albums list, and I think you’d probably expect it to be the other way round.
