I used to have a personal chart but I got bored of it about September time, will the same happen here? ONLY TIME WILL TELL!

In true LexC style, this countdown will be presented with minimal effort and will include an incredible diverse mix of mainstream female-fronted pop music (for the most part at least). Expect the worst and then maybe you'll be surprised for the better!

Current Schedule:

Top 5 Albums - 28/12/12

Top 100 Tracks - 30/12/12 - 5/1/13

(P.S. Bre, it would be best if you left now, there's nothing here for you from this point on)

This is going to be TERRIBLE.

In many ways, that's half the fun!

(BTW, your bad vibes won't be appreciated here. Begone!)

Albums you say! Well here goes, my countdown of my top 5 albums of 2012.

Before we begin, here are the albums that just missed out on a spot in my top 5

Lana Del Rey - Born To Die

(Highlights: National Anthem, Off to the Races, Born To Die, Ride)

Ke$ha - Warrior

(Highlights: Die Young, Thinking Of You, C'mon, Last Goodbye)

Girls Aloud - Ten

(Highlights: The Promise, Untouchable, Sound of The Underground, On The Metro)

#5 Agnes - Veritas

http://www.josepvinaixa.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Agnes-Veritas-2012.png

(Highlights, One Last Time, Loaded, Human Touch, Watching It Burn, Like God)

The first of THREE Albums by Swedish women in my top 5, Agnes returns with her follow-up album to 'Dance Loves Pop'. Although it gets off to a shaky start (the first two tracks being amongst the weakest on the album), after that the album really picks up before tailing off slightly towards the end (mainly because it's hard to continue a run of AMAZING like from 'One Last Time' to 'Watching It Burn' throughout an entire LP. All in all the album repeats many of the successes and failures of her previous album with a mish-mash of excellent tracks and poor to average tracks that suffer by comparison. The absence of 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' is also a knock to 'Veritas'.

In short: Amazing in places but still inconsistent. Could do better

#4 Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SJDcTA-y2qY/UDwOlYDq5CI/AAAAAAAANTE/6oHXFRO7xKA/s1600/550x550-Carly%20Rae%20Jepsen%20-%20Kiss-1.jpg

(highlights: Call Me Maybe, Good Time, This Kiss, More Than A Memory, Turn Me Up)

Carly Rae Jepsen is an artist that defines the term 'guilty pleasure'. Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, it's not sophisticated in it's choice of subject matter or lyric and Yes, many have compared her to Justin Bieber (who even features on the album), but despite all this I can't help but love this album. It's the kind of music that you can't help but smile to, prime example being worldwide smash hit single 'Call Me Maybe'. The reason Carly hasn't broken into my top 3 is that in places the tracks can feel a little bit like variations of the same song if you're listening to the whole thing non stop.

In short: Unsophisticated but still magnificent.

#4 Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss

SNAP.

Great pop album and my favourite new artist of the year. Will be a shame if she can't muster a 3rd hit because there are plenty of really catchy tunes on there.

(OK I'm Bored so from now on my commentary will be exclusively the 'In Short' versions)

#3 Timoteij - Tabu

(Highlights: Ta Mig Till Sommaren, Stormande Hav, Faller, Puls, Bara For En Natt)

In Short: Swedish Schlager updated to the 21st Century with obligatory dubstep breakdown. Excellent

#2 Marina & The Diamonds - Electra Heart

http://viperial.com/images/covers/marina.jpeg

(Highlights: Bubblegum Bitch, Primadonna, Lies, Starring Role, Power & Control, Fear and Loathing)

In Short: Everything that is good about modern pop is in this album. Only let down by mediocre tracks 8-11

(Fairly sure it's obvious what #1 is but let's see if y'all can guess!)

LexC's Album of 2012 is:

Loreen - Heal

(Highlights: My Heart Is Refusing Me, Everytime, Euphoria, Calling Out Your Name, Sidewalk)

In Short: After 'Euphoria', my expectations were high. She met them.

Join us again at an unspecified time where we'll be counting down an unspecified number of tracks to find LexC's song of 2012. Will Loreen do the double or will another challenger steal the crown from the current queen of Scandipop? STAY TUNED.

Personally I just can't see Plan B's 'ill Manors' not topping this.

7PM Tonight, LexC's Top 100 track countdown begins. Until then, here's an honourable mention for #101

Alphabeat - Vacation

  • Author

91. Lisa Miskofsky - Why Start A Fire

92. Ronya - Annoying

93. Justice Collective - He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother

94. Sam & The Womp - Bom Bom

95. Graph Gonzalez - Eyes In The Dark

96. Jessie Ware - 110%

97. Kalliopi - Crno I Belo

98. Flo Rida - I Cry

99. The Storm - Raver

100. Karmin - Brokenheated

-x-

Are you all sitting comfortably? Good. Then I'll begin. 100 to 91 features many great songs that aren't quite good enough to be a legit MAX TRACK. 2012s christmas No.1 features hear partly for the song and partly for political reasons. Also is the first of TEN songs from the 2012 Eurovision song cotest, 'Crno I Belo' from Macedonia. Also present is the only Allecci song to recieve points from R BRA and underrated gem, 'Eyes In The Dark'.

81. Jesper - Take Our Hearts

82. Jess Mills - Pixelated People

83. Cover Drive - Twilight

84. Joan Franka - You And Me

85. Halestorm - I Miss The Misery

86. SEP - Galaxy

87. Alex Saidac - Stay In This Moment

88. P!nk - Try

89. Hampenburg ft Jesper - Glorious

90. A*M*E - Play The Game Boy

-x-

And we move into the section of my countdown which I think is appropriate to call 'the underrated section'. Featuring undeserved Dutch Eurovision flop Joan Franka, two appearances of Danish eurogay favourite Jesper, and Sound of 2013 Longlist maker A*M*E. Also, an oddity to end all oddities a SCREAMO SONG that I REALLY LIKE in 'I Miss The Misery'. Who says LexC's all about pop generica?*

*Point may be proven again by the end of the countdown

SEP is one higher here than it is in my chart!

Halestorm, Cover Drive, 110%, Why Start A Fire, fantastic stuff so far.

94. Sam & The Womp - Bom Bom

100. Karmin - Brokenheated

83. Cover Drive - Twilight

Living up to the subtitle already!

Loving the inclusions of Cover Drive, Joan Franka, Ronya and Karmin especially.

71. Ian Carey ft Rosette & Timbaland - Amnesia

72. Emma Marrone - Non E L'Inferno

73. fun. - Some Nights

74. Michael Telo - Ai Se Eu Te Pego

75. Seo In Young - Anymore

76. Anngun - Echo (You And I)

77. Lana Del Rey - National Anthem

78. Charli XCX - You're The One

79. Le Youth - C O O L

80. Emma Hewitt - Colours

-x-

And we move on to the top 80, where we are greeted by a plethora of fabulous BJSC entries including the underrated 'Amnesia'. Umi no doubt aroused by Charli XCX and Lana appearing at consecutive positions in the chart. 'Some Nights' i.e. the superior track to 'We Are Young' that didn't get overplayed and dull also arrives at number 73.

That's all for tonight folks, join us tomorrow for positions 41 to 70. The top 40 will commence on January 2nd. (mainly because I don't plan on being in anything other than a complete state on New Years Day)
