Yes, I really was spoilt for choice when selecting a photo. :lol: Was pleasing to see it almost end up at the same position in our countdowns.

 

 

One Direction's highest entry ends up just outside the top 15, not a bad result for the band who finished #1 last year. If we were basing on lyrics alone this would of course be a LOT higher, thanks to the genius that is Ed Sheeran. Niall's verse. :wub:

Perfect 2nd single from "Believe", one that seems to appeal more to non-fans. Big Sean's verse is everything.

 

 

Yes this song does need Nicki's input! It's all about those vocals "SHE'S WALKING ON FIYAHHH". Not cared for Alicia much before but she kills it here. Does get a bit repetitive though (tell us again, what is on fire?!) so I'm beginning to tire.

Little Things is my least favourite 1D song (the best being Kiss You, WMYB, LWWY ofc).

 

BUT ALAYLM is by far my favourite Justin track :wub:

I'd never paid any attention to Bat For Lashes before this year but one night in the middle of 2012 I heard this very song on Radio 1 and it instantly caught my attention. The lyrics, the vocals. The raw emotion, the heartbreak. Very minimal. I get all sad everytime I hear that chorus. Easily the most stunning song of last year.

#10 Taylor Swift (feat. The Civil Wars) - Safe & Sound

 

 

The first of three Taylor Swift singles to grace the top 10, this stunning track is taken from The Hunger Games soundtrack and although it didn't click straight away, it's suited perfectly to the movie. I do hope she gets asked to do a track for the Catching Fire movie later this year because it's a great sound for her.

Jack! I really like "Laura", but haven't listened to it in absolutely ages. It would probably make a top 100 of mine. I'm surprised to see One Direction so low with "Little Things"! It really shocked me with how great it is! I like "Oath", but it got annoying for me quickly. I would like to see Cher release it in the UK though.

 

I assume "Something New"/"Call My Name" are still to come? :D

#9 Demi Lovato - Give Your Heart A Break

 

 

The only artist to feature in the top 10 two years running, beautiful X Factor USA judge Demi Lovato is slaying with the follow-up to "Skyscraper" which got bronze in 2011. Just a great up-beat pop song which had deserving success in the US.

#8 Imagine Dragons - It's Time

 

 

My biggest BJSC success story of the year came from indie/rock band Imagine Dragons who look like they're shaping up for a pretty big 2013, but already they've scored the #8 biggest seller of 2012 here. "It's Time" first came to my attention when I heard it was to be used in Glee, and it sneaked a week at #1 in between runs of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together".

#7 Ke$ha - Die Young

 

 

This club banger taken as the first single from Ke$ha's "Warrior" has made it into #7, well above the other pop greats such as Rhenna. Screw the haters, this is her best single yet! So catchy. "C'mon" could never.

I much prefer "C'mon", despite it still being Ke$ha-by-numbers. I dunno why, but I never really liked it. Probably because it's so similar to "Good Feeling".

 

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I love "It's Time", despite it's awful chart run for me! It'll probably re-enter if it finally gets a UK push :P

I never quite got the "Good Feeling" comparisons until the other day during Radio 1's countdown, but that's not a bad song to rip-off anyway.

 

#6 Taylor Swift - I Knew You Were Trouble.

 

 

The most recent song in the top 10 and only recently pushed as a single, IKYWT. is the first 11/10 moment and it did things to me the first time I heard the preview. Rightfully smashing it up in the UK right now, I may end up preferring it to the lead single in the long-run.

Nice to see Imagine Dragons in your top 10, I reckon the band will be big this year, hopefully, I do like their material, so far what I've heard is good, hoping to get their album at some point.

Not been bothered by Grimes before but her vocals really suit this track. Sounded amazing last summer and officially my favourite BJSC entry of last year.

#4 Amelia Lily - You Bring Me Joy

 

 

3rd place X Factor 2011 contestant Amelia manages to sound bored and still deliver a complete summer anthem. It just has that Xenomania magic and one song where I love the verses just as much as the chorus. Was very pleased to see it outperform expectations in the UK and very excited for her debut opus.
