Posted December 30, 201212 yr ANDREJ'S TOP50 ALTERNATIVE CHART WEEKENDING DECEMBER 30TH, 2012 Well, songs from TV commercials have always been an appreciable part of UK singles Chart. So from this week on I decided to include such tracks in my Chart. The first swallow has became the canadian rockers Rush, which are at 44 this week with their 1975 classic single Fly By Night which entered Top 50 due to American TV commercial for the Volkswagen Passat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xLwVB0lGFw http://www.detailsofmylife.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Everything%20Everything.jpg “Everything Everything” have celebrated their first No.1 this week as “Kemosabe” knocked HAIM's “ Don't Save Me” from the top spot. 1. December 30, 201212 yr ANDREJ'S TOP50 ALTERNATIVE CHART HI Andrey, well Im hoping to catch that commercial, though I cant let them in my charts or there'd be even more oldies! Then again lots of great obscure oldies stand no chance of ever being on a hit album to qualify, or to make the Archive Top 40 (which is mostly more recent oldies) so it might open it up a bit.....!:) always love the individuality of your list, and always informative of whats out there! cheers john :)
December 31, 201212 yr Author Thank you, Martin and John! :) HI Andrey, well Im hoping to catch that commercial, though I cant let them in my charts or there'd be even more oldies! Then again lots of great obscure oldies stand no chance of ever being on a hit album to qualify, or to make the Archive Top 40 (which is mostly more recent oldies) so it might open it up a bit.....!:) always love the individuality of your list, and always informative of whats out there! Thank you very much for your kind words! :D Actually, what i was trying to obtain with my Charts from their beginning is making them as close to the vintage UK Charts as it could be. Those oldies classic tracks (as part of the TV commercial campaign of the times) were like a trademark of British Charts. Remember, Should I Stay Or Should I Go went to #1 in the UK in 1991 after it was used in a Levi's jeans television ad. In September 1990 The Joker, a song by the Steve Miller Band reached Number One after being used in television advertisement for Levi's too... And so on... Not that i need that oldies to fill a gap in my Chart. Quite the opposite, every week i've got more new releases that i like than vacant places in my Top 50. But i just thought it would be cool to make my Chart looks more diversified. Just like yours, John, which i love very much. :) It's just like in good old days, when pop, rockabilly, disco, reggae, crooners, new wave and heavy metal might have been presented in the same Chart. I miss this in today's Charts.
