It was revealed yesterday that 60 songs have been submitted to the Croatian broadcaster and it is expected that 1 of these will be internally selected and be revealed by mid-February.

From ESC Today:

HRT, the Croatian national broadcaster has received a total of 60 songs in their quest to find an song with Klapa elements to represent Croatia at the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. Croatia will be selecting their representative and song internally, both the song and the name of the 2013 Croatian representative will be revealed in due course.

HRT has revealed that Franko Krajcar, Petar Beluhan, Marko Tomasović, Rajko Suhadolčan, Andrej Babić, Duško Rapotec-Uta, Željko Barba, Miroslav Buljan and Željan Klašterka have submitted entries.

A special committee consisting of : Velimir Đuretić, Nikša Bratoš , Ante Pecotić, Vesna Karuza and Mojmir Čačija will now evaluate all received entries and choose the best song to represent Croatia at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest, and choose the best act to represent Croatia.

Last month HRT, the Croatian national broadcaster informed Esctoday.com that there would be no national final or television show to select the 2013 Croatian entry. The broadcaster will select the act and entry from all the entries and applications it has received. An announcement revealing both the act and entry that will fly the Croatian flag in Malmö will be made by mid-February.

HRT called for composers and singers to submit their proposals for the Croatia's ESC 2013 entry. HRT will select a song and a klapa, a band which performs in traditional Mediterranean style so popular in Dalmatia, Croatia's southern province along the Adriatic coast.

Esctoday.com learned that what HRT wants is not a klapa style song, but rather a pop song which has elements of klapa. With this regard, HRT did not actually restrict their call to the traditional klapa style of music, and emphasised that that this will be an important element in their 2013 Eurovision entry.

The song will be entitled 'Mižerja' and the singer will be announced at a later date!

Via their Facebook page, the Croatian broadcaster HRT has announced details about their entry for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

The committee, consisting of Velimir Đuretić, Nikša Bratoš and Ante Pecotić, has decided that the song for Malmö will be titled Mižerja. The song was written by Goran Topolovac. HRT has also selected a reserve entry. That entry was written by Miroslav Buljan and is titled Cili Svit Za Bili Civit.

It had already been revealed that HRT would send a traditional genre, Klapa, to Malmö. The representative will be announced at a later date.

I usually quite like that sound as long as the song has female vocals.

Ideally, it should have been Colonia though.

That it should :(

Oh I'm really quite liking this, it's well sung, it's a good male ballad (something that seems to be lacking a bit this year) and there's a nice tinge of ethno to it. A lot better than last year's attempt, I don't know that it'll get them to the final though, as much as I'd like to see them back there.
our worst entry ever.

I think it's your best  (OK, this or Maria Magdalena).

OMG Nick, you couldn't have put a worse example of klapa  (they're from my town, I can be harsh :P )

I like this kind of music, but I understand why you don't (at least that's the impression I get from your posts). I'm from Dalmatia, the part of Croatia where klapas originate from, so they hold a special place in my heart.

Of course, not all klapas are good, but I think they did a good job with this one. Personally, I think there's something missing in their song or the way they're singing, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

I love that for once Croatia's Eurovision entry is something unique. It's been inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO <-- there's also a good description of what klapa essentially is).

I don't see Mižerja winning, because Eurovision is not that kind of contest (anymore?), but I love that we're bringing the ingredient that every country should bring to the contest - ethno, something unique to their own country and culture. I'm sick of songs being translated into English and all singers looking and sounding the same so it turns into just another pop contest.

Here's my favorite klapa and two songs that I love:

- this is a cover of Gibonni's song "Lipa Moja" (which you can listen to here) done in a "klapa way"

- and this song has been unofficially accepted as the anthem of Dalmatia

By the way, I have nothing against English. I study it at uni and it's the first foreign language I learned. I'm against what Eurovision has turned into over the years, that's all. Hope you didn't get me wrong!

I think it's your best  (OK, this or Maria Magdalena).

Yet you had it down as a ** (out of *****) WOT
