02. METAL MICKEY (1992)- 82 POINTS

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6a/Metal_mickey.jpg

PEAK POSITION: 17

WKS ON CHART: 3

RUN: {17}-25-48

HIGHEST VOTE: 11 (Richie)

LOWEST VOTE: 7

Personal Opinion: the song that made me aware of Suede, though I didn't love that at that point. Catchy as hell and a clear indication they were gonna be big.

"Metal Mickey" is the second single from the debut album by Suede, released on 14 September 1992 on Nude Records. It charted at number 17 on the UK singles chart, a considerable improvement on their previous single, "The Drowners", which failed to crack the top 40.

Performed by the group on their appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, it became the only Suede single to crack the US Modern Rock top 10, peaking at number 7 in 1993.

"Metal Mickey" is the only Suede single not to feature the title in the songs lyrics.

And the winner, as Tony predicted...

PEAK POSITION: 7

WKS ON CHART: 7

RUN: {7}-7-14-23-39-56-67

HIGHEST VOTE: 11 (Tony)

LOWEST VOTE: 8

Personal opinion: So this is what converted my like to love for Suede. I still recall seeing them on the BRITS in 1993 and the following week seeing that at Coventry University and on the way listened to the charts where this debuted at No 7- 20 years ago now!

"Animal Nitrate" is a song by the English Britpop group Suede. Released as the band's third single, it later appeared on their debut album Suede on Nude Records in 1993. It charted at number seven on the UK Singles Chart, making it the highest charting single from the album.

The video for the title track was directed by Pedro Romhanyi. The band caused some controversy with the video when it was banned for its depiction of two men engaging in a kiss. It won the first MTV Euro Video Song Contest in 1993

Just like to say thanks Gezza for really making me listen to Suede again. Haven't done that in a while.

And it kick-started a liking for Barriers too! Roll on the album.

Just a thought (and I'm way too lazy to do it myself) anybody up for a Manics rate.

I doubt we'd get as many votes, though.

I could do a Manics rate, but , like with Suede, the later singles (TIMTTMY onwards) would get a bit of a pasting.

I would take part in a Manics rate, but I admit I am hazy on anything before Motorcycle Emptiness.

How about other rates such as a Pulp rate (YAY), or Blur, Oasis, other big 90s indie?

I'd have a go at one too, not that familiar with the first album or any of the later ones but I'd vote...
Yay! You gonna start from Motown Junk or are you going to include Suicide Alley and the New Art Riot EP?
I suspect a Manics one with all the singles wouldn't get many votes as a lot of members won't know a lot of them. Therefore, you could either be selective and present a limited list or allow people to offer a "no vote" for some songs. You could then calculate an average score and, perhaps, omit any songs which don't get a minimum number of votes from the final list.

Ah, but if you can add a Youtube vid for each single then there's no excuse. Ok, might take a bit of time to get through them all - but it'd be a shame for Motown Junk or You Love Us to lose out ;)

Same would be true of a Pulp rate (which would be a great idea!) which would need to go all the way back to 1983!

I made playlist last night and it came to over 40 songs.

And that was without things like Umbrella and The Ghost of Christmas.

A Pulp one would be good. Most people probably won't know the very early ones (I don't know them all myself) but there aren't that manyof them (using the Wiki discography) so they can be included as long as there are youtube links.
The only one I would do is an Oasis rate! :P
