Just a quick poll about your preferred method of obtaining them.

I've left it multiple-choice.

Re option 3 : I know I screwed up the narrative - pretend the words 'i don't' aren't there, please. :)

High street and online shops, and occasionally a download (both means...) but I didn't tick them as it's rare.

High street cds, gonna get a nice record player this year and start buying vinyl for keeps!

I listen most to by ipod so download cds onto it but in the future i want a record player to listen to music at weekend with a beer which is always good - much better than downloads!!

I wish I could say I still buy physical albums, but I don't. I'll buy the vinyl of an artist I want to actively support, but tend to stick to Rdio these days.
Haven't bought many recently but it's a mixture of in-store or online. Never downloaded an album legally or illegally - unless every song is amazing it's a waste of hard disc space.

My way is:

01. Download illegally or stream online to check out

02. Listen to what I like

03. Buy the physical online when the prices have dropped (usually about a year later).

This way I never spend more than 3-4 pounds (incl shipping). I usually end up buying my most favourite releases / albums that have flopped to support them / albums to complete my collection.

Obviously prefer to get my albums from HMV when new, but have to go to the supermarket or online - in most cases - as it's cheaper. Most of the albums I buy seem to be older ones anyway, from That's Entertainment, CEX, car boots and charity shops.

I don't download the albums (every album I buy, I rip to my laptop), I prefer to have the physical copy.

I stream or illegally download most of the time. If its an act I like I do buy at our independant retailer HEAD which thankfully got a stay of execution in Weston-super-mare.

The reason people download illegally is disposable income is dwindling and with these benefit and wage cuts, paying the rent and food are more important.

Have totally switched over the past 6 months from being a heavy CD album buyer to legal album downloads - I only ever used the CD once as I put it straight into my iPhone so had no need for a physical format, Also the fact it's so easy - I often download albums when on the train etc,
I buy albums I REALLY love or to support my favourite artists (therefore last year I only bought Trilogy and Kin). I just don't see the point in owing many albums, plus I only listen to my iPod or iTunes so CDs will just lay on shelves uselessly anyway.

Physical Albums. I like to see them on my shelf, & to be able to read the sleeve notes etc.

I don't feel that it is a 'real' Album, unless I can pick it up, open the case, & take out a CD.

I don't like Downloads. I've yet to Download any Singles, or Albums, & I've been on The Internet

since February 2001.

Of the 26.2 Households in the UK, 5.2 Million do not have Internet access.

That's an awful lot of CD & DVD Sales 'lost', if people, (eventually), can only

buy them On-Line. However, the 2012 Total, (Households with Internet access),

was up 2 Million on 2011, so it depends how many of the 5.2 Million Households

decide to have Internet access, as the Year's go by.

Mainly the likes of HMV, but occasionally use Amazon

I've never downloaded an album, if i did I'd have to burn it to a CD to listen to in the car which is where I listen mostly to albums

I only buy CDs usually, in HMV, because I love having the physical copy, but occasionally I download an album if I can't find it in a shop. Also I get iTunes gift cards occasionally, which I usually use to download individual songs from albums if I don't want to buy the whole album. Sometimes I do get the whole album, but I always regret not getting the physical copy afterwards, especially if I really like the album. Once HMV has closed though, there will be nowhere in my city where I can get a good selection of CDs, and I might have to resort to buying off Amazon - which I have done in the past but don't like doing, it's not really the same as browsing through the huge selection at HMV. I refuse to convert to downloads whatever happens in the future. :(

1. Online store

2. Naughty way

3. In Store

I've yet to officially download an album, I'd much rather have a physical copy!

I paid for about 40 albums last year but only bought four CDs, one because it was on Record Store Day, three were second hand. Haven't bought CDs for ages, completely pointless.

Not COMPLETELY pointless. You even just said 3 were second-hand, you can't purchase second-hand downloads (or sell second-hand downloads, for that matter). :P I guess the advantage with physical copies, is that if you no longer want them or need some cash, at least you can stick them on eBay or give them to a charity shop or something!

I do get what you mean though, that's just me nitpicking.

I buy from the supermarket/Amazon or downloaded from iTunes about the same amount. I buy physicals more or less to collect them, so it depends on how much I like the artist. I do "Complete My Album" on iTunes a lot too (often feels like a good deal!)

I tend to download albums naughtily to see what they're like. If it's a decent album I'll go out and buy it or buy online. I only ever buy the CD straight away if I know I'll like it or it's an artist I'm a fan of.

Pretty much every album i've bought over the last few years has been in physical form (often from HMV of course)
