Posted January 21, 201312 yr Will.i.am feat Britney Spears - Scream & Shout stays at #1 This week saw a closely fought three way battle for #1, featuring 3 high profile collaborations. For most of the week, the 50 Cent/Eminem track was leading the way, whilst Justin Timberlake/Jay Z were leading iTunes for a good lot of the week. However towards the end of the week, Scream & Shout built up a healthy lead thanks to its use in Celebrity Big Brother. In the end it is last week's #1 from Will.i.am & Britney that holds on for a second week this week. The track has now spent all of its 6 weeks inside the top 3, being beaten by James Arthur and Justice Collective in the first 4 weeks. 50 Cent feat Eminem & Adam Levine - My Life enters at #2 This week's highest new entry comes from a collaboration of big US artists, lead by rapper 50 Cent who makes his chart comeback this week. 36 year old rapper Curtis James Jackson III made his UK chart debut in 2003 with huge #3 hit In Da Club. This was followed by 6 more straight top 10 hits - 21 Questions, PIMP and If I Can't, followed by Candy Shop, Just A Lil Bit and Outta Control. 2 more top 20 hits came from his film soundtrack later in 2005 - Hutler's Ambition and Window Shopper. 2007 saw his biggest UK hit, #2 smash Ayo Technology feat Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. Fiddy was last seen in the charts in 2009, when Baby By Me hit #17 featuring Neyo. Now he teams up with Eminem and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine for My Life, 50's joint biggest hit and 14th top 10 hit appearence in total. Eminem was last seen in 2001 with #34 hit Space Bound, the last of his 23 top 40 hits including 6 #1s. Justin Timberlake feat Jay Z - Suit & Tie enters at #3 The second highest new entry this week is Justin Timberlake's return to the music scene, Suit & Tie debuts at #3 as an On Air/On Sale release. Justin first made his mark as part of 5 piece boy band N'Sync, who amassed 6 UK top 10 hits between 1996 and 2002, with huge sales in the US. Upon the group's demise, Justin released his debut solo album Justified in 2002. That spawned 3 #2 hits Like I Love You, Cry Me A River and Rock Your Body, as well as Sinorita and I'm Lovin' It. It wasn't until 2006 that he released his second album Future Sex/Love Sounds, that got him his first #1 single Sexy Back. My Love and What Goes Around followed, reaching #2 and #4 respectively, as did #11 hit Love Stoned. After taking a break for acting, Justin now retuns to the music scene with #3 hit Suit & Tie which features rapper Jay Z, this is Justin's 7th top 5 hit as a solo artist. Biffy Clyro - Black Chandelier enters at #14 Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro make their return to the top 40 this week, as new single Black Chandalier enters at #14 this week. The band formed and released their first single in 1999 but did not get their first top 40 hit until 2003, when Questions & Answers made #26. 2007 saw their first top 20 hit, #13 Saturday Superhouse. However it wasn't until 2008 that they achieved their commercial breakthrough. #5 hit Mountains, #10 hit That Golden Rule and #17 The Captain came from their 6th album Only Revolutions. That album also got them their biggest selling hit Many Of Horror which made #8 after Matt Cardle covered it for his X-Factor winner's song. Now they return to #14 with Black Chandalier, the lead single from forthcoming 7th album Opposites. Anne Hathaway - I Dreamed A Dream enters at #22 Actress Anne Hathaway makes her UK chart debut at #22 with a song from the musical Les Miserables, I Dreamed A Dream. The song is sung by character Fantine during the first act, and as such appears on the soundtrack. The song wa originally sung by French singer songwriter Rose Laurens and has been covered by Susan Boyle, who famously sung the song on Britain's Got Talent then hit #38. Lawson - Learn To Love Again enters at #28 Boy band Lawson get a 4th UK top 40 hit this week as Learn To Love again debuts at #28. The band first came on the scene last year, when they scored 3 successive top 10 hits - #4 When She Was Mine, #3 Taking Over Me and #6 hit Standing In The Dark. All 4 singles come from their debut album Chapman Square, released last October. Neyo - Forever Now enters at #31 US singer and producer Shaffer Chimere Smith gets himself another UK top 40 hit under the name of Ney, as Forever Now enters at #31. Neyo debuted in 2006 at #1 with So Sick, followed by #5 hit Sexy Love and #4 Because Of You. Then in 2007, he scored his second chart topper and biggest seller Closer. This was followed by #6 hit Miss Independent and #19 single Mad. 2010, saw him hit #1 for the 3rd time with Beautiful Monster, which was followed by #20 hit One In A Million. Last year, he hit #1 again with Let Me Love You, Forever Now is the follow up single debuting at #31 after being released several weeks ago. Les Miserables Sountrack climbs to #1 In a rare occurence, there is a film soundtrack at #1 in the album charts in the form of Les Miserables. Credited to the Cast Of Les Miserables, this means that the soundtrack can chart in the artists album chart and as such climbs from #5 to #1 this week. There are 3 new entries in the top 20 this week, the highest being from UK indie band Everything Everything with their second album Arc. There is a new entry at #7 for US rapper Rakim Mayers under the name of A$AP Rocky with Long LLive ASAP. Irish band The Villagers enter at #16 with their 2nd album Awayland. The 9th studio album from New Order Lost Sirens also debuts at #23 this week. Opinion Whilst I really don't like Scream & Shout, it's saved us from that horrible 50 Cent and his awful song becoming his first UK #1. On the other hand, I really do like Suit & Tie from Justin Timberlake, even if it isn't his best work and is slightly ruined by Jay Z's rap. I am quite a fan of Biffy Clyro and really like their new single Black Chandalier, pity it missed top 10. I think Lawson's new one is perhaps their best so far, I have liked their output so far as well. Neyo's Forever Now is just average, Flo Rida keeps up his standard of releasing boring rubbish and the jury's still out on Animal by Conor Maynard. I am no fan of Dizzee Rascal's past material at all, but I like this new piece of dirge even less. Not a fan of musicals in general, but good on Les Mis for topping the album charts.
