March 24, 200619 yr kelz musical taste isnt one that co-incides with mine! lol. but so what?, the thing is scott, that she genuinely gets pleasure out of the artists she likes, they do it for her in her life. i think that we all just have to accept the differences here, no ones gonna convert eachother.

I'm just curious to know whether names like Blink 182, Sum 41 or Green Day might crop up.....

March 25, 200619 yr you clearly have no understanding on just what impact the sex pistols/punk had on music and youth culture, many things of which are still 'in' today. rotten was the spokesperson, he was the man. :)

March 25, 200619 yr Author Well, it does betray a lack of imagination, but I would not be perhaps so extreme in my reaction as Russt - as Mushy says, being a Mod means I have to be a bit more diplomatic these days... The Internet is a wonderful tool, try going onto the Websites of female-fronted bands such as Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, The Gathering, Moonlight, hell, Evanescence even (there's not that much difference between Ev and Kelly Clarkson actually, ex Ev guitarist Ben Moody was involved in Kelly Clarkson's album...), if you're into female artists, there's tracks you can download and stream for free. Out of that lot I'd only really listen to Gwen Stefani, Sheryl Crowe and Alanis, and even then it's in very small doses and very much dependent on the individual track (although I was a fan of Gwen's previous band No Doubt and have their first few albums, I suppose that's why I'm so disappointed with her new pop direction)
March 25, 200619 yr true, but the impact rotten had on youth culture does demand some respect :) (too smokey)

March 25, 200619 yr Author Johnny Rotten is an idiot and The sex Pistols were trash.Although I liked him on I'm a celebrity get be out of here. *sigh* I'll ask you what I asked Kelly - list your favourite bands mate..... Personally, for myself I was a bigger fan of The Clash, but I would never be so foolish as to understate the importance of The Pistols....

A short list in no perticular order: Nirvana Good Charlotte Guns N Roses Blink182 LostProhets Kings of Leon the White stripes Gorlliaz here's a few :D
March 25, 200619 yr Author A short list in no perticular order: Nirvana Good Charlotte Guns N Roses Blink182 LostProhets Kings of Leon the White stripes Gorlliaz here's a few :D For a start Nirvana, Blink 182, Good Charlotte and LostProphets would be nothing without the Sex Pistols and the whole UK Punk/Post-Punk scene; W Axl Rose has said in the past that he was a great admirer of Johnny Rotten as well; Gorillaz would not probably not exist without the introduction to the UK music scene of reggae rhythms and song structures from bands such as The Clash, The Specials or Public Image Ltd (Johnny Rotten's other band, the one he formed with dub-reggae bassist Jah Wobble)..... The rawness and lo-fi ethic of The White Stripes is definitely something that owes Punk a debt as well... In short there is very, very little that exists in today's music scene and popular culture that has not been touched by Punk and Post-Punk....
March 25, 200619 yr So you think just because someone mainly likes mainstream artists that they must be too lazy to search for something better? I have heard most of the acts listed in this thread and don't like them, so what exactly is your problem with me listening to what I want to? You can moan and moan about how it's "pitiful" and "lazy" and "cringeworthy" etc but I really couldn't care less that's what I want to listen to and no matter how much you argue I will continue to listen to these artists regardless, you really have a problem with a thing called "personal opinion" don't you? I have a feeling that you're one of these people that thinks "yeah it makes me look cool because I love Rock & Indie" well i'll tell you it doesn't you can still love mainstream artists and have a perfectly fruitful life, trust me, let go of your inhibitions and go and buy the Rachel Stevens album you always wanted and stop being such a hypocrite, eh? Also, you said my acts are "boring" i'm not saying that she's the best vocalist/dancer/performer that ever lived but Rihanna's new single is FAR from boring. But once again you're probably talking about who wrote it and how much input she had on it, rather than the actual track itself, yes? Thanks Scott your reply was much more appropriate, I have heard of some of the bands you named, and I didn't like them much, there's no getting away from it, i'm a POP fan, I like pop music, music that does appear a lot in the top40, oh and by the way I LOVE Evanescence, I have talked about them in the R&I Forum, I should have listed them, forgot most likely, I loved Fallen a really good album for me, awaiting new material
March 25, 200619 yr I'll list some and see the reaction I get: Iron Maiden Metallica Black Sabbath Slayer Megadeth System Of A Down Deep Purple Rage Against The Machine Queens Of The Stone Age I could go on a lot more, but I think that is sufficient for you to criticise for now :P I don't see how anyone can criticise this selection Kelly, it's some really good stuff! :P

I'm not really a fan of Ev myself, I prefer the bands they ripped off...
March 25, 200619 yr nice to see this touchy subject has been handled well by all concerned, and as such the thread is a good read whatever your point of view this is an example of what we here on buzzjack should be aiming for, reasoned debate between people of differing musical tastes.
