March 1, 201312 yr Author My favourite song from Blondie. # 3. Blondie - Sunday Girl (3 weeks # 1 - 1979) http://991.com/newGallery/Blondie-Sunday-Girl-57418.jpg u5SmLgGnKJ4 "Sunday Girl" is a 1978 song written and recorded by American group, Blondie. Though never released as a single in United States, the track was a #1 hit in the United Kingdom for three weeks in May 1979 as well as a #1 hit in Australia. The song was written by Chris Stein and was the fourth single to be taken from the album, Parallel Lines, in the UK and most other parts of the world. The French language version of the track was first released in the UK on the "Sunday Girl" 12" single; in France and the Netherlands, it was the B-side of the 7". For Blondie's first greatest hits album The Best of Blondie in 1981, producer Mike Chapman created a special mix which incorporated one verse sung in French. The single had an unusual release in Australia, with some dispute among fans as to whether it reached #1 there or failed to chart. This is because of its initial release as the lead single from "Parallel Lines", due to its being reminiscent of "In The Flesh", Blondie's first hit in Australia. "Sunday Girl" failed to chart, however, and was later re-released as a double A-Side with "Heart of Glass", on the back of its UK success. As a result, it was eclipsed by the disco track, and is rarely recognised as having charted in its own right.
March 1, 201312 yr Author My favourite Eurovision winner: # 2. Dana - All Kinds Of Everything (2 weeks # 1 - 1970) http://ring.cdandlp.com/kroun2/photo_grande/115154019.jpg ka5OfjwB3nM "All Kinds of Everything" is a song written by Derry Lindsay and Jackie Smith; as performed by Dana, it won the Eurovision Song Contest 1970. "All Kinds of Everything" represented a return to the ballad form from the more energetic performances which had dominated Eurovision the previous years. Dana sings about all the things which remind her of her sweetheart, with the admission at the end of every verse that "all kinds of everything remind me of you". The recording by Dana became an international hit. Dana had recorded "All Kinds of Everything" following her victory in the Irish National Song Contest with veteran Eurovision composer Phil Coulter ("Puppet on a String","Congratulations") providing the musical arrangement for the Ray Horricks production. The record was released on 14 March 1970 on the Rex label for whom Dana had previously recorded four singles (including "Look Around") and became a massive hit in the Republic of Ireland even prior to its Eurovision win reaching #1 on the chart dated 20 March 1970 and remaining at #1 for nine weeks: in October 1970 Dana received a gold disc for "All Kinds of Everything" selling 100,000 units in Ireland. In the UK "All Kinds of Everything" was #1 for the weeks dated 18 April and 25 April 1970. A #2 hit in the 1970 Eurovision host nation the Netherlands, "All Kinds of Everything" was also a hit in Austria (#7), Germany (#4), New Zealand (#8), South Africa (#7), Switzerland (#3). In Australia the release of Dana's "All Kinds of Everything" was preceded by a cover by Melburnian singer Pat Carroll whose version reached #25 before the Dana original charted to be ranked jointly with Carroll's version: the highest position this joint ranking reached was #34. "All Kinds of Everything" also charted in Italy but failed to become a major hit with a #58 peak.

March 2, 201312 yr Author # 1. Bucks Fizz - The Land of Make Believe (2 weeks # 1 - 1982) http://991.com/newGallery/Bucks-Fizz-Land-Of-Make-Beli-433662.jpg j9TX9syyqnc "The Land of Make Believe" is a 1981 single by British band Bucks Fizz. It reached No.1 in the UK in early 1982 - the second single by the band to do so. The song was produced by Andy Hill with music by Hill and lyrics by ex-King Crimson member Peter Sinfield. Despite the apparent sugar-coated style of the song, Sinfield later claimed it was a subtle attack on Margaret Thatcher and her government's policy at the time. The song was later covered by amazing pop band allSTARS* for a 2002 single release. The single was released in November 1981 and became a top 10 hit in December, being placed at No.5 for the Christmas chart. The following week it was placed at No.2, behind The Human League's "Don't You Want Me", before finally taking over at No.1 in January. Critical reaction to the song was favourable with Record Mirror stating: "Prejudices and preconceptions aside, it's an excellent record and a worthy successor to 'Don't You Want Me' at the top." "The Land of Make Believe" remains a firm fan favourite and reviews in the press at the time were positive with Smash Hits calling the song "sheer genius" and more recently Q Magazine labelling the song "not half bad" and "an 80s classic". Members Bobby G and Cheryl Baker have both named it as the best of their own songs. The song became the group's biggest-selling single in the UK, outselling their Eurovision winner "Making Your Mind Up", to finish as the 41st biggest-seller of the 1980s. It also reached No.1 in The Netherlands and Ireland, while in Germany it also became their biggest selling single. The song became the group's debut single release in the US, but was unsuccessful there. "The Land of Make Believe" also was the third single by the British band allSTARS*. The single was slightly faster than the original version and had a more euro-pop sound. The music video was set in a circus tent, with each individual member of the band performing tricks e.g. being cut in half, levitating or juggling. The single performed to moderate success, achieving allSTARS*' highest UK chart position of No.9. allSTARS* version Blw4C1WNVQM Becky Hunter  Edited June 4, 201411 yr by AlexRange
