Posted August 19, 200618 yr Gareth gates is coming back - like a dodgy kebab after one too many shots. No I must not be cruel or his loyal fans will put down their irons and write me nasty letters. The youngster - he is still only 22 - has recorded an albums worth of mature pop songs for the discerning housewife. Im told Gareths been working hard mainly recording in Scotland as well as a few tunes in london. He has written several of the songs and played guitar and drums on many of the tracks and the team are very happy with his album. Gareth has been working closely with simon fuller and is very positive although there is no new record deal. He was dropped by sonybmg in april but has retained the services of 19 management. My source added there was some talk of a christmas release but its unlikely that he will be putting it out until january. He is still very much in love with his girlfriend suzanne mole, and she has moved in permanently with him now. I predict a Gates junior very soon.
August 19, 200618 yr I'll reserve commenting until I've heard the new material. However, I did not like his old material & thought that he was very overrated in the first series of Pop Idol. I always felt that Will Young & Darius had much more distinctive voices & were far more charismatic.
August 19, 200618 yr I'm pleased for his fans. They have been waiting so patiently and loyally for a long time.
August 19, 200618 yr Although it's delivered in Joe Mott's sarcastic style there is good news in there and I'm really happy for Gareth's fans. I loved Gareth's co-written tracks on GYOW and I think if it had been a single album with a few of the better tracks from the extra CD that SC made him put out, then it would have fared far better. For those that scoff about how long he's been away, it should be noted that Dido last released in 2003 and doesn't expect to put out her album until 2007 - 4 years. August 19, 200618 yr Some good news for Gareths fans at last And yes, Dido certainly doesn't rush her albums out, but with her success and sales, the whole of the music industry will welcome her back 'without prejudice'. Sadly, I doubt that'll happen for Gareth, so for his sake, let's hope he's come up with something that'll knock Joe Mott and his ilk bandy. :D
August 19, 200618 yr I always thought Sunshine was a great single and I liked the video for it. Pity he didn't carry on with that type of music.
August 19, 200618 yr were far more charismatic. If you've ever had the fortune to meet Gareth personally away from the spotlight, I'm sure you'd reverse your opinion. Yes he did find it difficult to show his true personality when he couldn't string more than a few words together in public, but those who met him privately saw a completely different side to him. Now however, I understand from people who attended the course he instructed last week, that his speech is very fluent and he was a delight to listen to. A few reports have stated he held the audience captivated. As for this article, Joe Mott has on the whole printed very out of date information there, but the fact he's printed it at all after all this time, makes me think he may have got a little snippet of information from somewhere, enlarged on it, and that Gareth will be back in some way very soon. Very much looking forward to hearing more news :D I always thought Sunshine was a great single and I liked the video for it. Pity he didn't carry on with that type of music. I think he would have done if he'd had his way. Possibly the reason he didn't release anything else from the album was that he would only have been able to release the tracks Simon Cowell wanted him to. Which would not have been the best ones on there :D Edited August 19, 200618 yr by val4jadan
August 19, 200618 yr I'm pleased for his fans. They have been waiting so patiently and loyally for a long time. Thanks Munchkin We certainly have and we have always tried to be supportive of other artists too. With all the dross we have had to suffer, we could have been resentfull and spitefull, but we have always tried not to be :) . This week has been exciting with news of Gareth's leading his first speech course now all we need are the interviews and the album :) :) . Can't wait to hear an interview, where hopefully he will be able to right a few wrongs :) :) :) .
August 19, 200618 yr Thanks for posting that Preston. Roll on January. :cheer: Us fans have definitely waited patiently, but we also understand he has been working on other things that are important to him, especially reading some of the reports. In particular, I loved this extract posted on the Irish McGuire site. A big thank you to Gareth who inspired us all throughout the course. He’s a man of great qualities. He’s charismatic, mannerly, confident, knowledgeable, caring, supportive to name but a few. Oh! He’s a great singer too. His use of technique was outstanding throughout the course and the new students and grads were privileged to have Gareth as their course instructor. I also know that no matter how important the McGuire stuff is for Gareth, his passion for music has always shone through, and I too loved his own choices of music for the last album, including all the stuff he wrote himself. I know those were the tracks that got the lions share of the good reviews, so I am very hopeful for the future.
August 19, 200618 yr I always thought Sunshine was a great single and I liked the video for it. Pity he didn't carry on with that type of music. You and me and lots of others too, but that was Simon for you, because Sunshine 'only' got to no 3, he put his foot down and made Gareth release one of 'his choice' songs. I loved the songs on Go your own way, Gareth had a hand in writing, so I cant wait to hear what he comes up with next. I love the fact that Gareth played the guitar and the drums on most of the tracks, that was always his dream.
August 19, 200618 yr I knew somehow that we hadn't heard the last of him. 'Sunshine' was the only single of his I liked though.
August 19, 200618 yr It seems to be the one most people claim as their favourite, including those who aren't particular fans, which bodes well for the future as it was his favourite single too. As hasso says, unfortunately Mr Cowell saw differently, so he wasn't allowed to release the other tracks from his album in that ilk to back it up.
August 19, 200618 yr Meh..Gareth bought out one or two good songs but his album was a pure flop. Hopefully, he will come back with a new image because hes really not an innocent teenager. He shagged Jordan for gods sake..
August 19, 200618 yr Gareth's album sold around 100k here in UK and it went triple platinum in Some Asian countries, so I would not call that a complete flop. Gareth was just a teenager, now he is a grown man who has been living with his girlfriend for a couple of years now. I cant wait to hear his new music. :D
August 19, 200618 yr its good news for his fans, and to be fair he wasnt the worst and his anyone of us song was catchy, all his singles went top 10 and had 2 top 20 albums so he did ok, i hope he gets another chance, and does ok for himself
August 19, 200618 yr It was actually 7 top 5 singles 4 of them no 1, and a no 2 and a no 11 album. But Thank you Feel the Fever. :D I hope other people will give him a chance too. Edited August 19, 200618 yr by hasso
August 19, 200618 yr NO PROBS i was never a huge fan but ididnt mind gareth either but i really liked his stupid mistake song,to be fair the people behind him didnt give him enough of a chance nor do thye with many reality singers, every artist has ups and downs even big names such as madonna, kylie etc but a poor patch can be the making of an artist as we learend very well with kylie kylies impossible princess albumsold badly and everyone wrote her off then she returned with her light years album and the rest is history she became a mega star all over again,im not saying that will happen with gareth but i think record executives should help artsist out more rather than dumoing them the minute they have a bad selling single of album
August 19, 200618 yr You are so right Feel the Fever, mistakes had been made, as you say. I also sometimes think of how Kylie manged to turn it round, and she is a huge star now. I do hope that people will give Gareth own music a listen at least, and unbiased one, and then judge on that. I love the songs he had written himself on his last album. And I love the 2 demos we found online. I cant wait to hear his new songs. :D Hopefully not too much longer now.
August 19, 200618 yr I wasnt keen on 'Sunshine' 'Anyone of Us' was my favourite from him tho  I don't hate him but I don' adore him either but it'll be interesting if he came back to see what he came up with and how he'd fare.
