August 22, 200618 yr Throught this post is about Gareth not about Will  when ever theres a Gareth post it turns into a Will post  this post is about Gareth not about Will. Edited August 22, 200618 yr by Unchained Melody
August 22, 200618 yr I'm at a loss to understand what these public perceptions of Gareth are. What were people supposed to know about him other than the facts? He was a young lad with a terrible stammer who entered a talent show and showed the public that his stammer didn't affect his singing? No big deal, there's stacks of people who have the same speech impediment and have a struggle to overcome it. For me the main thing that pissed me off was some people who said, from day 1 that he put the stammer on for sympathy. Stammers come and go according to stress levels and situations (as indeed do Tourette's tics, as we have all learned through BB this year), but a number of commentators and internet users saw that as evidence that it was being put on. I guarantee when he comes back with a much reduced stammer some ignorant people will start saying it again. Just watch the tabloids do it....
August 22, 200618 yr I guarantee when he comes back with a much reduced stammer some ignorant people will start saying it again. Just watch the tabloids do it.... He really can't win Sybil. If he stammers he's accused of being dull and not able to hold an interesting conversation. If he doesn't stammer, he's accused of pretending
August 22, 200618 yr With some people, Gareth can never win regarding his stammer, which he didn't exactly pick as some kind of devious marketing ploy. If he speaks and shows any evidence of his disability, he's trying to get sympathy. If he speaks well, then it's disappeared, and he must have been making it all up in the first place. One of the biggest complaints about Gareth is that us stupid women felt sorry for Gareth because he struggled with his speech, and therefore we all rushed out to vote for him. That was a theory heavily peddled in the press and by those who resented his success, and unfortunately a lot of people were gullible enough to believe that. If people are going to complain about the hype around these shows, don't forget to complain about that very distasteful side of it. I think it's virtually a certainty that Gareth will be asked about his stammer when he returns, because journalists have a natural interest in communication and speech impediments are incredibly relevant to that. To try to exclude that from any interviews or promotional activities would be to deny a major aspect of Gareth's personality and what he's been doing in his time away. It would also deny the general public insight into a subject that is of interest. Beyond that, it would deny other people with similar problems the opportunity to see how far someone else has come, that might provide them with a lot of encouragement and motivation to get treatment or to pursue their dreams. If a few bitter people would deny them that, because it might count as 'unfair promotion', then tough! Gareth working toward managing his own disability and helping others with theirs may not count as 'entertainment', but it is both interesting and educational and there's nothing wrong with the odd documentary focusing onon something interesting and educational. :P Call me a loony, but I thought it was interesting when Will spoke about what he had learnt about Domestsic Violence, even if it didn't make me rush out to buy his albums. I certainly don't remember many people complaining when Will chatted the press or appeared on tv simply because he was running some half marathon. ;) Going back to my previous point, it's not just as simple as the people in non Pop Idol viewing countries accepting Gareth regardless of the perceived benefits of a disability, most of these countries are non-English speaking, and therefore most English-speaking pop stars struggle with interviews, therefore it instantly becomes less about spoken interviews and more about the music, the video and print features.
August 22, 200618 yr Throught this post is about Gareth not about Will  when ever theres a Gareth post it turns into a Will post  this post is about Gareth not about Will. Well ask your mate Hasso to leave Wills name out of it then
August 22, 200618 yr OK Let's rewind the thread. Gareth has virtually finished his new album and he's coming back after a lengthy break which followed a successful career where he also had a lot of success in other countries. Any facts to be disputed there?

Any facts to be disputed there? Sounds about right to me The only comment I can add is HURRY UP ABOUT IT
August 22, 200618 yr I have something else to say which I think also resumes some of the info in this thread which should not be lost. Gareth Gates has a genuine stammer which thanks to his own hard work for a considerable time under the tutelage of the McGuire Programme he has largely learned how to control. IMHO his actions once he was himself helped, are to be admired. He took steps to ensure he could help others by training to be an instructor himself. It must have been a proud moment for him to lead his very own course as an instructor. I don't see any harm in his loyal fans expressing their pride too.

Its the way all Gareth's fans feel, but for someone who is not a particular fan to see things the way we all do is really lovely. I'm sure the majority of people who look at the facts objectively will see things in that light. Believe me the pride and admiration we all have for Gareth, is just oozing out of our computer screens at the moment. The people behind the McGuire believed in him and gave him the chance to show what he's about. I just hope people will do the same regards his new music. That's all any of us is asking. Listen and make a judgement on the music :)
August 22, 200618 yr Urgh, I don't think he'll be anywhere near as succesful this time around but as long as his record company realise that he'll probably do alright... You may be right. It will be all about the music and the promotion. Other artists have been promote, promote, promote and I am sure if Gareth is prepared and is able to cope with that ,then he stands a good chance. Whatever happens, just to see him back and hear him being interviewed will be a treat for us, his fans.
August 22, 200618 yr I don't really see that point Marguerite. Yes Will may have needed to promote the Film, but he virtually talked exclusively about the film in every interview he did before Christmas, almost to the point of not mentioning the music at all. I would imagine that the interviewers slanted the questions that way. For all we know Will could have spoken at length about the album but it wasn't shown. No-one knows.
August 22, 200618 yr Hello! This is the Pop Forum. Repetitive points and discussions re any artist who has his/her/their own optional forum should not jam up this one.

August 22, 200618 yr Hello! This is the Pop Forum. Repetitive points and discussions re any artist who has his/her/their own optional forum should not jam up this one. Are you for real? If a mod has a problem with the way this thread is going, then it's up to a mod to tell us. And for the record, if you or your friends don't want Will mentioned, then stop the hell bringing him into the debate. It really is that simple.
August 22, 200618 yr Tactic 2 - sarky comment with smilie. Doesn't alter the fact this is a thread about Gareth Gates in the Pop Forum which is for discussion of artists who do not yet have their own optional forums.
August 22, 200618 yr gareth won't release new material. he is gone, there are many other artists now.

August 23, 200618 yr Please can a MOD close this post please? i think these boards are great but i dont think i be coming on here again :(
August 23, 200618 yr Why? This is an interesting thread Who cares if fans of other artists post as long as its not too inflammatory (or dull and repetitive LOL) and stays on topic. But all of that is for a mod to decide, not us. Goodness, if we run away from discussions all the time we are in trouble. Edited August 23, 200618 yr by Sybil
August 23, 200618 yr Please can a MOD close this post please? i think these boards are great but i dont think i be coming on here again :( Don't say that Unchained Melody. If the thread gets closed, it will probably be what the people trying to take it off course will be hoping for. We're discussing Gareth  what more do you want :D Just read the posts you want to read and ignore the others. Its a compliment to Gareth, after all, that some posters want to divert us away from talking about him and onto someone else  And don't leave the site. Its great on here :D
