Hi. I've just read this thread right through. Its very good of you to offer us the use of this thread to discuss Gareth. It was also lovely to read the nice comments from most of Darius's fans. Its great seeing all the friendly people from CC on here.

I hope for your sakes, having us chatting about Gareth in here, doesn't attract all the nasty comments we usually get on the Pop forum.

I've had a very good feeling over the past couple of months, that we may be close to Gareth's return. Now he's finished his course in Ireland, I feel he'll be able to concentrate on the music again. Strangely enough, although I absolutely love Gareth's singing, the thing I'm most looking forward to is hearing him do an interview on the Radio or on one of the Chat shows on Television. Its been quite an emotional week for us fans, reading all the wonderful things written about Gareth by the people who were there whilst he was addressing his course. Then having his own excellently written report as well. He appears to be quite an accomplished writer now. I am so, so proud of what he's achieved in the last few years. And all without the need to be at the top of the charts constantly

Thanks again and I hope things are going well for Darius at the moment :D

Oh yes. Long interviews where he can express himself will be such a change - so exciting.

Maybe Gareth will write a book or do a documentary some day about his experiences with the McGuire course. I think he should because he's seen it from both sides.

Darius seemed to be in excellent health and spirits when I saw him last on 8th July. He's now back in America again with Natasha and her two boys. It must have been quite a week for them - Natasha's birthday was on Tuesday and D's yesterday.

Belated congratulation Darius. :D

I am pleased that he is happy with his girlfriend, as is Gareth. Its good for them to have someone in their lives who is there for them when the stress gets heavy.

it is good for people to have the chance to grow and not be performing constantly for a label to be honest. we are talking about living a happy fulfilling life, not just a year or so making money and under such pressure, and the superficial "success" as deemed in the public eye. Gareth was so young. and after PI he didn't seem to stop! that must take a huge toll.

Darius and Gareth are lucky to be supported by 19, and I hope Gareth is as happy as Darius truly is now.

You are so right Prettyinpink, and from what we heard of people who been to the McGuire course Gareth instructed, they say he is very happy and his speech is really strong and he is an inspiration to other stammerers. Makes me proud. He is living in the real world with real values, as is Darius.

That is more important then chart success. :D

You see that's what so many people on here just don't get. Commercial success and fame are not the be all and end all. They're a heady mixture, giving the illusion of control and power but it's all ephemeral.

There has to be a balance. It isn't all about selling millions of albums and getting money. Where's the pleasure in yachts, cars, designer wardrobe, forever-young surgery etc. if you've no-one you feel a real connection to with whom to share it?

Besides, the money is often nowhere near the level that people imagine it will be especially for groups because there are more of them to share whatever percentage they eventually get.

I was just reading Sky News today and Sarah Harding from GA has just been saying that. True it sounds like she'd been drinking but unfortunately I think the Popstars contract would probably have been well weighted to ensure the managers and record company got an extremely good cut. It must be expensive for GA because they're girls and girls need new clothes, hair care and make up regularly - they can't keep re-combining their clothes like Darius does. We've seen him wear shirts from 2002 very recently. Good job he's kept his figure. Perhaps part of the reason is he's trying not to have to lug heavy luggage around and he's got to have a reasonable choice of clothes in LA, London, Glasgow and New York.

Also GA hardly have a single in the charts before the video for the next one is made ready to go to the music TV channels. I seem to recall that the artist has to pay the cost of half the video.

That's what I believe too. Though I miss Gareth dreadfully, I'd much rather he was happy doing what he enjoys and with someone who is making him happy, than all the chart success. Happiness is a very rare jem in the entertainment industry, so when you do find it, nurture it.

That's not to say I don't dearly want some new music Gareth  :D

It's unpredictable but really exciting waiting for a new 'bunch of songs', as Darius calls them.

I don't think I had remotest inkling of what Live Twice would sound like beforehand and it's the same with Gareth's new music. No-one has a clue what style it will be, whether indeed the style will vary from track to track. There have been so many rumours.

just popped intot he lounge - cannot beleive what the mention of Gareth brings out of the wood work, even after all these years - or maybe I can

well said unchained melody to your post on the pop forum - a thread that I started, might have known they would come out of the woodwork. It was supposed to be news for the gareth fans yet has as usual they cant give it a rest re their one and only.Good luck to gareth, the charts are not everything.

Leopards don't change their spots.

Gareth has a thread in the Pop Forum. Most members of bj have nothing to say about that. I for one am not going to let that thread be closed by tactics we have faced so often from the same obsessers.

Express lukewarm goodwill. Make sarkycomment but always put in a nice little smilie. Express surprised doubt about facts presented by another and sweetly ask for more info. Demand further clarification. Try to steer it back to your own more familiar ground. Wait for someone to rumble that and actually speak the name and bingo! you can cry foul they started it!

I've put in a couple of new posts in the hope of calming it down on there. Gareth's fans deserve a place where they can post about him on the same basis as any female artist or band with no background in reality TV.

Thanks Baytree. :D You would really think after 5 yrs everyone could live and let live.

Thanks Baytree. Really appreciate your very valid and very nice comments on the thread in the Pop Forum :D

I don't think things will ever be any different, unfortunately, no matter how hard we try to have a sensible discussion about Gareth. The insecurities are so deeply ingrained, though god knows why they should be, when an artist has been so successful. Its very hard to fathom sometimes

A call for a truce and a return of sanity.

As far as I could make out having struggled through 4 and a half pages, that is what the crux of the thread was.

Their overall warring strategy? - always try to obscure any positive facts in a fog of trivialities and long exchanges of tit for tat.

I'll look out for updates here and on the Gareth Gates thread in the Pop Forum. I see some of JT's album has just leaked. Maybe you'll get lucky too.

Edit: The cauldron's getting another stir!

Chance would be a fine thing. They are very reluctant to give us a sight of Gareth, let alone any of the tracks on the album ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Gareth's voice, as a 17 yr old, didn't appeal to me. It was obvious that he was a nice, talented boy though. From what I've been told, he is now a nice, genuine, talented, young man.

I'm really looking forward to hearing his new stuff. His voice will have matured and he has more freedom to show his musical prowess. As long as people aren't expecting to hear a 17 year old again, he could do really well.

Thanks Megham for your kind words, I really hope people will give him a chance. :D
