But the team f*cked up the strategy again. He would have had a better chance of winning if he stayed on the harder tyres until the end, IMO.

I agree, if he'd stayed out we'd have won but it's our best result since Bahrain which is brilliant. Get Romain to stay on the track and away from other peoples wings long enough to convert his speed into decent points which is something I'm very happy about (even if it was quite close to being his first victory, something I'm even more thrilled about!!)
Kimi hardly needs to move to Red Bull to 'challenge' Vettel. He did just fine in the Lotus Renault this afternoon.

Both of the Lotus/Renault drivers did a bloody marvellous job today! Fine driving by Romain this afternoon, really wonderful race from him.

Well he cant really challenge Vettel at Red Bull can he... the car is just not quick enough. Simple as that.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has warned Fernando Alonso about his conduct following comments made by the Spaniard during the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend.

While it is unclear which comments Montezemolo was referring to, the Italian squad suggested Alonso had been critical of the team after a difficult weekend in Hungary.

It always emerged during the weekend that Red Bull was considering Alonso as a contender for a 2014 seat.

In a statement on its website, Ferrari wrote: "There is a need to close ranks, without giving in to rash outbursts that, while understandable in the immediate aftermath of a bad result, are no use to anyone.

"That was a reference to the latest comments from Fernando Alonso, which did not go down well with Montezemolo, nor with anyone in the team."

Ferrari revealed di Montezemolo talked to Alonso today to wish him happy birthday but also warn him about his conduct in public.

"All the great champions who have driven for Ferrari have always been asked to put the interests of the team above their own," Montezemolo said.

"This is the moment to stay calm, avoid polemics and show humility and determination in making one's own contribution, standing alongside the team and its people both at the track and outside it."

Alonso finished a distant fifth in Hungary on a weekend when the team effectively reverted to an old specification package because new parts introduced in recent races had not worked.

The Spaniard said Ferrari was finally getting to the bottom of its problems, but warned that an improvement must come right after the summer break in order to stay in the fight.

"Now we understand the car, we understand the problems," said Alonso.

Fernando Alonso Ferrari F1 2013"We know what parts were not working and in a way it is normal to have this deficit now we are driving with the old parts.

"Over the summer we need to make a step forward that we thought we should make at Silverstone.

"We need these couple of tenths to come immediately for Spa and Monza to have the same performance with the cars we are fighting for the world championships."

The two-time champion has not won a race since the Spanish Grand Prix in May, although he is still in third place in the standings.

What do people think of this?

Could this relationship turn sour like him and McLaren did back in 2007.

Very good weekend, shame that shite Button got in the way and ruined our weekend somewhat but traffic happens. It would have been forgivable had it not allowed a Hamilton victory and for that Button must burn. Shame really. I was just starting to like him, and his passive aggressiveness towards Perez, at long last.

Strong Performance from Lotus again and it's great to see Kimi back up to 2nd in the WDC. Shame we're still 4th in the WCC.

It's been said too often but Grosjean is dangerous as hell.

If we're going to throw the D-word around, shall we at least level it at the correct driver? Massa has caused more incidents and had far more accidents this year than Romain has. Romain and Button was nothing more than a sporting incident that has happened many times before this year without any penalties or words like 'dangerous' being thrown around. I don't recall Schumacher being labelled dangerous after causing an actual crash at the same chicane a couple of years ago. The stewards clearly thought it was nothing more than a normal racing incident given that they abandoned their investigation until after the race and handed out a 'penalty' that cost him no places and was somewhat akin to a slap on the wrist.

Sure, last year he was a bit silly but Monaco aside he has been a changed driver this year. Making some brilliant overtakes (Like the one on Massa this weekend, shame he couldn't just keep that tire on the white line) and putting in some absolutely outstanding drives (Like where he made Vettel shit himself for most of the German Grand Prix). Romain is being unfairly judged on past form. I don't recall Massa getting a penalty, or even being investigated, for driving into the side of Rosberg (an avoidable incident) and forcing him off the track. I wouldn't be surprised if Massa's little nudge caused Nico's engine woes that lead to it going on fire.

But no, you're quite right. Someone who touches tires in the midst of one of the best battles of the race is far more dangerous than another driver who T-boned a competitor and contributed to overheating his engine to the point where it BURST INTO FLAMES. Let's also not pretend for one second here that had that move been done, with the same tire touch, by Hamilton or Button on Grosjean that the D-word would be thrown around at all. It'd be all "what a brilliant move" and "Hamilton is the second coming of Christ"[/rant]

Did anyone catch Singapore?

Ignoring Vettel, the race was sublime! Some great overtakes and brilliant strategies by Ferrari and Lotus to steal 2nd and 3rd from Merc (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!)!!! Absolutely heartbroken for Romain and his air problem though as yet again he was on absolutely superb form this weekend. He's developing into a cracking driver. I think him and Hulkenburg would be an incredibly strong line up that would develop into some world championships once Renault stop dicking about and just buy the team back like we all know they will when it looks like they're about to go bankrupt and gives them the slightly higher budget and sponsor income they need to really take the fight to RBR.

RIP Maria De Villota who was found dead in her hotel room in Spain aged 33.

The former Marussia reserve driver who lost her right eye in a crash last July while testing for the Marussia team.

RIP indeed. Sad news. Particularly because so few women get very in F1.

As for this weekend it looks like Vettel is going to bore everyone again because everyone has crashed in practice!

Very sad news to hear about Maria :(

The arrogant git has notched up his 4th WDC. Although it was yet another sublime drive from Romain today. Coming from 17th to 3rd is a drive comparable to the greats. Fernando did it in Australia in 2005 on his way to his first WDC...

Felipe Massa has joined Williams as team-mate to Valtteri Bottas for 2014. He will replace Maldonado.

Also Kimi Raikkonen will miss the last two races due to having surgery on a back problem.

Great to hear that about Massa think that was the only 'decent' (if Williams still are) option for him but it'll be great to keep him on the grid for another season or two :D.

Great for massa. Am keeping my fingers crossed we sign hulkenberg!

As for Kimi, what an arse. Prick can go fck himself

Sergio Perez has confirmed that he will leave McLaren at the end of the season via a letter on his Twitter account. It's looking more likely he'll be replaced by Kevin Magnussen the son of ex-F1 driver Jan Magnussen for next year.

Where now for Perez? Force India, Return to Sauber, Lotus possibly?

Regarding Raikkonen's replacement for the last two races. It looks like Heikki Kovalainen will be the replacement or Lotus's reserve driver Davide Valsecchi.

Red Bull: Vettel, Ricciardo

Mercedes: Hamilton, Rosberg

Ferrari: Alonso, Raikkonen

McLaren: Button, TBC

Force India: TBC, TBC

Sauber: Sirotkin, TBC

Toro Rosso: Kvyat, Vergne

Williams: Massa, Bottas

Caterham: Pic, TBC

Marussia: Bianchi, TBC

8 positions left on the grid. Who do people will get those positions?

Romain has been pretty much confirmed as staying put at Renault. Great to see kovy joining us for the last two races, he knows the team well.

Perez would be no major loss to F1 tbh. I think the rest of the line-ups sort of depend on who takes the second Renault seat.

As expected Pastor Maldonado has signed for Lotus for next year to join Romain Grosjean thanks to his funding that he will provide for Lotus is definitely the main reason why Pastor got the drive after a planned investment deal failed to materialise for Lotus.

I am totally and completely unamused. I was really looking forward to Nico joining Lotus and the incredible pairing that would produce. Pastor showed this year that he's absolutely crap if he's not in a car that's working well.

I really hope it's a single year contract and they get their finances in order so they can get Hulkenburg to join Romain for 2015. Although I wouldn't say no to an Alonso return again.
