Not sure what I make of this really, nothing as instantly addictive as Get Lucky but some really good tracks, although Fragments In Time is quite terrible and sounds like a C side from Sandi Thom's second album.

What people are saying about this album is not affecting me. I am certain that Daft Punk will deliver, and I've never been more excited for an album ever! :w00t:

It's really not that great and I am absolutely certain that you'll be let down by it so don't get your hopes up too high! Listen to the itunes stream...

So so so disappointed by it.

It's not that similar to any of them really. It's really 70s, I found Get Lucky to be by far the most catchy track on it. It could be a grower but a lot of it is quite mellow really.

Oh, I'm still loving it. If you liked Veridsquo from Discovery you'll like it. It's laid back and chill out in places. Very little as up-beat as Get Lucky.

I deleted the files I downloaded last night in DISGUST.

So I'm having to listen to the stream today! Thoughts...

01 Give Life Back To Music - like Get Lucky but just nowhere near as much fun and lacking in charm. Feels like it's just a long intro track. 6/10

02 The Game of Love - I don't actually mind this but it's positioning on the album is awful and kills any momentum of the album stone cold dead despite the fact we've barely even begun. Track 9 fodder. 6.5/10

03 Giorgio by Moroder - Now I quite like this one, I approve of the homage for starters. Begins in the same mellow 70s vibe with Giorgio (I assume) talking about the thought process behind his music... then it goes typically Moroder-esque and it becomes comparatively fabulous. Again it feels like it should be towards the end of the album... plus, aside from Daft Punk managing to bag the man himself, this sort of homage has been done so many times by so many dance acts over the years. Actually, to be fair, this one has really grown on me in the past 24 hours. 8/10

04 Within - A piano! Like a normal song! It's more slow tempo stuff though with a borderline bossanova beat(!), I really wanted (and expected) a couple of big tracks by this point. Essentially a normal ballad but with robot vox. 6/10

05 Instant Crush - Is this really the guy from The Strokes?!!! A pointless collaboration as they manipulate his voice to the point that it could be absolutely anyone. It has it's moments but we're still at mid-tempo at best and in desperate need of something to lift the album. 6.5/10

06 Lose Yourself to Dance - this is reminiscent of Chic and so is quite a welcome piece of 70s nostalgia for me. Pharrell suits them very well also... the most authentic track so far for me. 7/10

07 Touch - A slightly sci-fi intro to this one which then breaks off into quite a decent track which veers between serious sounding vocals and then incredibly upbeat jazz styled sections. Would have worked MUCH better as track one or the final track but still kinda great. 9/10

08 Get Lucky - well everyone knows this one. Turns out I can easily listen to it for longer as I expected. Roll on an official 30 minute version. 10/10

09 Beyond - Nice strings intro... which then settles into more mid tempo standard 70s doodlings. 5/10

10 Motherboard - Merges with the previous track for me. Could easily do without both of them. 5/10

11 Fragments of Time - This is the guy that was on the Discovery track right? Reminds me of something else from the 70s but not sure what. It's ok, the robot sections lift it. 7.5/10

12 Doin' it Right - Panda Bear! This one actually feels like it has a bit of a modern feel due to the indie leanings that Mr Bear brings... like this one. 8/10

13 Contact - I like this one too! Purely instrumental and feeling like we've finally stepped out of the 70s, the drums are great... it just builds and builds, a definite highlight. 9/10

I was clearly being harsh on it earlier tonight just because it wasn't what I had initially wanted from them. Get rid of Beyond / Motherboard (and possibly track 1 also), then rearrange the rest and you have an ok album.

Listened to it before. I dunno, it seems OK, but it all just felt a bit like.....background music. Nothing really caught my attention. Then again, I didn't really get 'Get Lucky' at first either.

'Veridis Quo' is my favorite song by Daft Punk but so far this album is not catching on yet..

'Motherboard' is my favorite right now. Followed by 'Contact' and 'Get Lucky'.

I actually love this. Put it on as the soundtrack to a casual 'let's all get a little drunk but not go wild' celebration night and it's been perfect. Definitely more chilled than i EVER expected but that ain't a bad thing. I often found their old stuff a bit too much anyway.

Starting to properly get into this right now. It was just so far from what I expected that I didn't know what to think at first. Will probably pick up a copy of the album today on my way home :D.

I'm still not fussed about the first three tracks on the album but the others are all growing rapidly. 'Motherboard' is still the highlight.

edit : Got the album :D. First in a long time I've bought an album on the release date.

I dont really like Dance to the Beat - it's the same chord progression as Get Lucky. If it was some other dance band I'd be dismissing it.

Gioegio by Moroder takes a while to get into - as someone said, it should have been placed further into the album

Within and Instant Crush are my two favourites at the moment. Instant Crush would be a hit.

There's a heck of a lot of vocoder - possibly too much - and they're relying on arpegiators a lot too.

It's not as amazing as I thought it was. I will do a full review and rate later. We're probably looking at an 7/10 or maybe an 8/10. It's no Discovery.

7/10 or 8/10 is still very good though, isn't it? :P

Been playing it all day :w00t:

Perfect to study to. I would give it 8/10.

'Instant Crush' is so catchy. Either that or 'Fragments of Time' has to be the second single.

I'm u-turning more on this with every listen... and it keeps dragging me back to it too which has to be a good thing.
I think this album is really great, I love the mellow feel to it as others have said and it all sounds quite diverse, yet it all unquestionably sounds just like them. The Giorgio track would be great if it was a little bit shorter and Doin' At Right is ANNOYING AS HELL but other than that its all very good. Instant Crush is probably my favourite, that would be a great second single.
