When's the next one starting, I'm still torn between sending a song I love and sending a song which is going with the "indie" trend

I'd think it's better to just go with a song you love, going with the "indie" trend (if there actually IS one, these results say otherwise) doesn't guarantee a good result :P

Definitely go with the one you love (cliche, but it's true imo).

It might be painful to watch something that you adorn potentially flop, but i couldn't bear leaving an actual favourite hidden, and backing something else half-heartily for three or so weeks.

This (x a trillion).

I would never send a song I'm not fully on board with as It really wouldn't help my interest in the contest. That's why I'm so glad I was introduced to 'Thank You' in the nick of time, as I wouldn't have been sending anything this month that I liked to any reasonable degree otherwise.

Also, as SevenSeize said, there's every change that the hipster song could potentially flop anyway. FLOP WITH LOVED TRACK > FLOP WITH 'SAFE' TRACK etc. (or replace 'flop' with 'win' ovc)

In true Eurovision tradition, the winning song sounds better after re-playing, Rihanna-tastic in fact, but it didn't need my points and my other faves did, hooray I helped them grab a Top 10 place and stay off the bottom. Result!

well done all, lots of great songs...!

Well that's 1 down, 2 more in the running :P

I would never send songs that I don't love to the contest as there really is no point. There is nothing more pleasing than sending a 11/10 track to the contest and see it doing remarkably well but if not, someone is bound to have made a discovery out of it which is the point of these online contests! ^_^
Can I just point out all of the "indie" songs that have done well for the past few contests well are actually just pop songs?

Need to get the dates from Hits first to approve but it should, hopefully, be the end of this week/start of next.

As others have said, always go for something you love rather than something that'll do well.

There has been a very prominent indie trend over the past year with this contest looking like it's either an outlier or the first in the transition era *crosses fingers for the latter*

Tone will 'never be in contention'. Yeah. So right. 3rd and 15 points from the top spot is like SO FAR AWAY OMG. Smash was the most ridiculously easy Top 3 I've ever seen. Lazy lazy lazy. Silas, you should srsly know better :( Now you automatically lost the right to contribute to the 'omg this entry is so like cheap and stuff i always send songs that other people wouldn't normally discover on their own like okay' discussions in favour of that approach :D

Anyway, super BLAH and UGH winner SOZ Hits. At this rate I'd very much rather Overdose won. The rest of the Top 10, Skall, Jurananamdbnsfjbjan, Bang and Bignia aside, is quite disgusting tbh. At least 10-20 has my entire Top 5.

Now you know how the more poppier voters have felt for the last 9 or 10 contests :heehee:

Oh and 'Uncover'... yeah I get the comparisons to 'Read All About It' now that I focus on it. But I always liked RAAI and never got the hate for it on this site. I get that it's overplayed now though.

I have NOTHING for the next contest atm! :drama:

Indeed. They JUST all had THAT EXTRA SOMETHING in them that isn't an electro-driven vagina or cheesy chorus. Proper indie would be stuff like Animal Collective, Crystal Castles or Grimes (although this one is also mainly electro pop).

Oh God, so soon.

I've not even had chance to even think about dates for the next contest. Will have to check my calendar. :D

Looking at this list of winners. How many of these are actually indie. Answer: NONE (I would argue). Even LDR who is probably the most indie friendly artist here.

Actually the most that can be said of the so-called indie tracks is that they are "indie-friendly". No-one whines more than a pop fan, it seems like sometimes.

Can I just say, as a pop fan... barring Loreen, I even find most of the pop winners "average" too/can't remember how they go. But the "indie friendly" winners, are worse than the pop winners for me. :(

Also, I'm pretty sure we'd find/place the respective topics for each of them under the "indie/alternative music" forum on here. So it's as indie as we can see it. They definitely feel more indie to me than they do pop. But pop is such a wide genre to begin with, it's quite difficult deciphering what goes where sometimes.

I know exactly what I will send to BJSC LIII :D

And as pop has twisted out of shape so has indie so the amount of overlap between the two is much more than before. Half the threads in the indie/alt forum are for artists who five years ago I would never have considered indie or they're indie artists gone pop or they're pop artists gone slightly indie. Those same tracks definitely feel more pop to me. It's all a case of perspective.

Nice, my 12 pointer won. Grats to Batidas and thx to Aeroche for the once again great hosting. :D

Zech's votes are always fascinating, they're often so varied in terms of styles.

I like being unpredictable, I guess. It probably also has a lot to do with my favourite genre (rock/metal) not appearing too often here.

And there is not really one genre I don't like at all. I usually find something good everywhere.

Definitions used to be Pop = popular, Indie = independent record label, then it all got blurred when the indies got bought out by the majors and indie acts went big time. Woodkid is indie, because he's on an indie label. So is Adele, the biggest pop star in the world. Work that one out!

what is called indie now seems to be what used to be called bedsit or student or album or rock or goth or punk or trance or any mixture of any styles and so on. Maybe Mainstream and Non-mainstream are better terms because what is pop by definition changes with the times and new generations, and thats part of what keeps it fresh and exciting?

Me, if anyone asks what type of music I like, I say first "everything" and then "especially pop" because its a handy blanket term for every commercial act over the decades from Sinatra to Adele. I can't think of any other way of expressing it, except to say "music".

Leww it's a shame Data Romance didn't finish higher, I'm actually addicted to 'She's Been High'! :music:

YAY, a fourth consecutive top 10! Given I got a few win predictions, I won't pretend that I'm not a little disappointed, but it's still way better than I expected when I sent my entry in. Don't think I'll be able to enter next time due to exams being imminent (I've actually been addicted to maths in the last few days; it's so stimulating OOPS #virgin), but hopefully I'll be back in May to continue my run of (moderate) success. <3

Oh and to anyone that didn't vote for my entry: I PITY YOU.

Aside from my own track, the results were okay. The top 10 isn't that bad, but when you consider how good the final is overall, and how the bottom 10 are probably better, it's a bit of shame really!
