More or less Danny, there was a live action film version was released in the cinema around that time and the B52s (of Love Shack fame) appeared in it as stone age band the BC52s (see what they did there?). They also recorded a version of the normal theme tune, but I think it was a bit longer and poppier/dancier than the normal one from memory.

Is that the actual Flinstones theme tune at #3?

The novelty track has never worn off ;)

I was born, but as a five year old (and in nursery school) I'm still just about too young to remember a lot of these, although there are a few that ring a bell from back then and in the years since I've heard a lot of them. My memories of current chart songs start in 1993, increase through the 90s (especially from about late 1995 onwards) and by 1999 there's barely a song I don't remember!

Here's a review of Now That's What I Call Music 28 I wrote on my blog last year, which features my thoughts on a lot of these songs: http://billyhicks.livejournal.com/307775.html . On the whole out of that top 40, 'Crazy For You', 'Compliments On Your Kiss', 'Run To The Sun', 'Baby I Love Your Way', 'Summertime' (even though it's a re-issue from '91) and 'You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)' all stand out the most as faves!

I never liked that BC52s record - I think it's cos Rick Moranis looked weird as Barney Rubble. Don't think Moranis has been in anything since either.
Oh no, does this mean that single sales will drop again in a few years? :(

I think so, people will be moving to Spotify and Deezer!

A little bit before I really got into music (although I was very much alive already) but there are a few good songs in their various ways: '7 Seconds', 'Swamp Thing', 'Kiss From A Rose', 'Shine', 'Regulate'. And 'Summertime', although that's obviously a re-issue.

I was 13 when this was the official UK top 10 and all the tracks bring back memories to some extent.

1- LOVE IS ALL AROUND- Wet, wet, wet (87,996)

Top of the charts for 15 weeks yet it wasn't a track I genuinely loved. Safe to say there were other tracks lower down the top 10 I adored a lot more. 90% of people who bought this must've been over the age of 18 and regular cinema goers. I don't remember anyone my age making a big deal over this song...

2- I SWEAR- All-4-One (41,000)

4- CRAZY FOR YOU- Let Loose (31,000)

...whilst these two were all the rage with every girl in my year at school. I can still hear the sound of what seemed like cats howling the chorus of 'I Swear'... **shudders**

3- (MEET) THE FLINTSTONES- The B-52’s (32,000)

Hated this at the time. I thought it was one of the worst songs in the top 10. Just didn't get it, I'd have even preferred the original Flintstones theme tune get an official release instead. The film was also crap (they really didn't do Betty Rubble any justice did they? :D ).

5- SEARCHING- China Black (24,000)

MoR central. Like an early version of Lighthouse Family. I suspect the people who bought this were also responsible for keeping Wet Wet Wet at #1 for endless weeks.

6- REGULATE- Warren G & Nate Dogg (24,000)

Now this was more to my liking. Back in the joyous days when US RnB and rap was actually fantastic. You'd never have heard a song like this emerging from America by 2002 - no, we got such gems as J-Kwon, Chingy and that "Laffy Taffy" nonsense. US rap really did decline by the early 00s didn't it?

7- SHINE- Aswad (21,000)

Choon!!! One of my fave songs at the time. I actually love this more than their 1988 #1 hit 'Don't Turn Around'. This song just oozes summer.

8- SWAMP THING- The Grid (21,000)

Another track I adored at the time although I never see this on the music channel anymore ('Shine' still gets shown on VH-1 classic every now and again) but this track was ace even it did create a handful of rip offs.

9- LET’S GET READY TO RHUMBLE- PJ & Duncan (18,000)

The legendary track. :D

10- NO MORE (I CAN’T STAND IT)- Maxx (17,000)

Safe to say 'Get-A-Way' was far superior. Surprised this even managed top 10 on reflection but if the sales were that bad at the time then it's probably no surprise.

I remember I Swear was #2 for ages, there seems to be a lot of great tracks in there that I know of

Seven weeks at be precise. It's more interesting that Let Loose replaced them at #2 after what seemed like forever inside the top 5. The charts in the summer of 1994 really were slow weren't they? I dread to think what the sales were like 2 weeks later.

Let Loose - Crazy For You

THIS. Can that have a random unexplained iTunes boost at some point please (not on the next series of the Big Reunion though, can anyone name more than one member? Anyway, I liked:

2- I SWEAR- All-4-One (41,000)

4- CRAZY FOR YOU- Let Loose (31,000)

5- SEARCHING- China Black (24,000)

6- REGULATE- Warren G & Nate Dogg (24,000) (Probably the first rap song I really got into)

7- SHINE- Aswad (21,000)

8- SWAMP THING- The Grid (21,000)

16 [12] Two Cowboys "Everybody Gonfi-Gon" (1994 was the peak of eurodance music)

17 [19] Elton John "Can You Feel The Love Tonight"

18 [24] Youssou N'Dour feat. Neneh Cherry "7 Seconds"

19 [15] Big Mountain "Baby I Love Your Way"

20 [26] Seal "Kiss From A Rose"

21 [**] Hed Boys "Girls + Boys"

28 [25] Ace Of Base "Don't Turn Around" (SUPERB band, won't hear a bad word said against them)

29 [18] Gun "Word Up" (Loved this, until I heard the original, which is much better)

34 [28] Dawn Penn "You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)"

39 [**] Lucas "Lucas With The Lid Off" (Never really smashed here, but I seem to remember this was huge in Europe, and it fit in the sort of Oui 3 or Galliano acid jazz meets urban thing)

 All-4-One the hipsters, spending 7 weeks at #2 before Maroon 5 made it mainstream!

I don't think I would've liked living in 1994 with Love Is All Around and I Swear dominating. They're both average at best. Regulate and Let's Get Ready To Rhumble are probably my favourites from the top 10.

I remember I Swear was #2 for ages, there seems to be a lot of great tracks in there that I know of

wasn't Big Mountain - Baby I Love Your Way not No2 for a while as well? sure I remember Goodier on the chart show going "who is at No2....it's Big Mountain" quite a few times during that summer like as if it was a surprise to see Wet, Wet, Wet still top :D

Yes, but not quite as long as "I Swear". Here's its chart run;
