So it was #38 this Saturday.

Then #37 this Sunday.

#36 Monday

And now it's #33! It's climbing slowly, but surely. I really hope they visit some more radios during the week. You don't exactly book these things 5-7 days before. It's more like 1-2 days so there's still hope they add some other radio dates. Fingers crossed.

Plus with them being possibly added to Radio 1'S A-list, their airplay could go up a bit more again. I really hope they can manage to have a top 20 on airplay at least.

'What About Us' was #24 on Radio Airplay a week before the release, so if Gentleman could somehow keep climbing it will echo the success, although I'm sure it wont climb up dramatically throughout the week.

There's no hype for 'Gentleman' and literally nobody knows about the song / nobody is aware it's being released on Sunday. They really should have done some sort of radio tours, twitter trends to build up any possible hype.

I really don't like that Alias Remix of Gentleman :S
- It matters because their airplay isn't great yet and they have yet to be A-listed on Radio 1. Going there would definitely push them to do it. And if it's for a matter of "playlisting", Radio 2 won't playlist them either, so I can ask you, why does it matter?

- That's not it, though. They are doing even less promo than they usually do. Look at the promo thread. They usually do 2-3 morning TV-show and one late night TV-show with a couple of radio interviews for Kiss, Capital and Radio 1. It's lacking their usual "big" (by their standard) performance. As I said in the other thread, I don't blame the girls or anything because it's a matter of "What can we book at this time of year?" and "Can we really book it?" and the girls can't control these kind of things, but that doesn't mean we can state the truth and the facts : the promo is weak. So what if other artists don't even have this kind of promo? It just means their promo is even weaker, but it doesn't change the fact that the promo of the girls right now is weak. That's my point.

- But Missing You is a shit song with no general appeal at all, I've always said that. I've never understood the love for it. The What About Us promo wasn't exacly the best, but they did tons of interview about Chasing The Saturdays which built hype for the single, they did that Youtube/Vevo thingy...Everything they did for the US actually helped them in the UK. And it did equate in a massive hit. It's now their best selling single.

You're talking like I don't know what they usually do.. You're not the only one aware of their promo schedules.

My point is that constantly complaining that they're not doing enough is not going to make them do more.

They are doing promo regardless of how much they're doing.. Three paragraphs of a loony rant won't change anything.

And FYI.. I happen to like Missing You, it's not a shit song. That's an opinion.

And basing your arguments on opinions voids your whole argument.

You 'not understanding' the appeal for it doesn't mean that it's shit.

The opinion that you have is valid, don't get me wrong.. But it's no more valid than mine or anyone else's.

Neither do I :/ It seems all over the place.

But yes it does seem as if people don't know this is released on Sunday.

But it didn't have any appeal. It was the most played song on the radio for like two weeks, it had MASSIVE promo, radio tours, etc...yet it sold barely more than Notorious which was released OA/OS with pathetic airplay. How exactly do you explain the fact that it didn't sell well with all that except that it doesn't have a general appeal?

Definitely think it's unfair to state 'Missing You' "didn't have any appeal". :o

Let's remember that the 'Headlines' album was released a week afterwards, and that it became the highest charting album of their career. People bought into the album off the back of 'Missing You', so it clearly must have done something right! (Yes, I know it was released during an easier summer period, but nevertheless it charted highly, and 'Missing You' is a reason for that success).

I love Missing You; everything about the Headlines era was exciting - eventhough they dropped to #3 with Missing You. If only they pushed the campaign further, we could've seen a second platinum album tbh. But then again the proceeding events may never have happened. Hah! :D

I'm hoping this somehow does well.

Like others, no one knows about this release, compared to What About Us (Which all of my mates were talking about) this has had no impact.

It's a shame Capital barely play Gentleman (I don't think they have in at least a week) because IMO it hits the target audience directly.

Radio 1 is an iffy one as although it gets alot of listeners it has a far more varied audience.

Officially the first Saturdays' single to not be on the A-list on BBC Radio1 on release week.

Bit disappointed really. I mean, I don't want to sound ungrateful and it's great they've been B Listed and all but I can't help but think Gentleman is the single following a #1 single that was supported massively by them and it hasn't/potentially won't be A Listed? It's a bit baffling. I'd get it more if it was 30 Days that hadn't been A Listed following MHTO but I'm a bit surprised by this. I guess because the fact we're used to/come to expect Radio 1 A Listing every single that it makes it seem worse than it is haha, especially on top of poor pre-orders and not great airplay and interest.

I really thought things were on the up airplay wise and radio would support them with this big time after What About Us. I don't get how they can go from being A Listed for 6 weeks to being snubbed from it just over two months later? Too drastic a sound change? My bad for thinking that What About Us would guarantee improved airplay for this single and perhaps future singles if radio continued heavily supporting them. Now they'll go back down to My Heart Takes Over/30 Days level again because there really is no major interest in the song and it's too divisive to do much. Hmm. I just hope it goes top 10 and they bring out the big gun for the third single to clean up after Gentleman's mess.

I'm sure they'll come back from this though if Gentleman doesn't pay off in the end.

Ok don't shout cause I'm not being dramatic but..

I genuinely think this is the start of a wind up period over the next 12 months...

*awaits negative feedback to post*

I'd like to think they'll stay together until Aoife reaches 5 and starts school where it could get more difficult for Una (similar to what the girls have said about wanting to stay together for five more years at least), so what, until 2017/2018 - marking 10 years together. Who knows though. I'd like them to reach 20 singles, though. Ending on a random number like 17 or 18 singles would irritate me for some weird reason.

They have a 5 album deal don't they? This marks their fifth album, right? So perhaps once that's released they'll do a JLS and sit down with the label and work whether they want to carry on - especially if things haven't picked up commercially speaking for them - and renew their contract. I'd like to think they would... they seem to love what they do and I'd like to think they wouldn't give making music up just because they're not having huge success but again, the label also have a say. Who knows what the girls will think further down the line.

If the end is 'soon' and I had to guess I'd say this is perhaps quite likely a timeframe if they decide to call it a day?

Sept/October 2013 - Single #16 and new album

March/April 2014 - Tour

Sept/October 2014 - Greatest Hits album and Single #17

January 2015 - Final single (#18)

Feb/March 2015 - Greatest Hits Tour and go their own ways

Only they know, though! They should stay together until they can pass the baton down to Aoife, Alaia and co. :P

This is going to completely ruin the momentum that What About Us built. :( I do think we'll be back to MHTO/30 Days style chart runs/sales now and it's a real shame but they took a big risk with this release and so far it's not looking like it's going to pay off.

They were at facination hq today. Kimberly Walsh was too.

I think they will be like

Oct - album and single 3

Jan - fan voted single 4

Mar - announce split

July - final single, GH and tour

Number 2 on MTV HITS 'biggest tracks right now'!! Icona pop was number 4!!
People are seriously overreacting in this thread... Calm your tits guys. They've had flops before and it is not a fact Gentleman is even going to flop
Were allowed to have opinions on the future. The fact they have been a band since 2007 suggests they are closer to the end than the start in comparison to most other girl bands

Of course you are, I'm just saying you're overreacting. That's all

Why are y'all even speculating right now? Yes they've been around for 6 years but that doesn't neccesarily mean their days are over?

tbh

Not my fault if they can't get their shit together. However, they obviously won't split after a Greatest Hits. Actually, I'm pretty sure we won't have one anytime soon. The only reason people want a Greatest Hits from the girls, it's because Girls Aloud had one and it did amazingly well. But the world doesn't work like that. It's not because a girlgroup can have a successful GH that another one can have one too. There's much more to that. Hype, promo, good material, etc. They are better off with a new album.
