I was wrong, the album mustn't be finished as he's recording lots of songs he's done with The Nexus atm. I like the stuff I've heard from them so I'm looking forwards to seeing what they'll come up with together.

t is FilanFriday today and this time, via Facebook Shane revealed competition where you could win a signed copy of a new single. Also ShareShane is currently trending at no.5 worldwide.

This probably means we won't have to wait for long to hear the new single :)

Shane said this on Twitter:

Excited! Is it the single + 3 tracks, or 3 tracks including the single? I'm really excited about this, I just hope they don't screw the EP thing up like they did with Wonderland & Not A Love Song!

Not sure, but since Shane wrote "3 extra tracks", it means it could be single + 3 other songs. This is a very good move to introduce his music before the album comes.

I don't think they will screw things up, we have to keep in mind that Shane is with different label than Wonderland were.

I'm not familiar with EP problem the girls had though... what happened?

Yeah the "extra" sounds like it's going to be four in total, either 3 or 4 though it's all good! I really can't wait!

Urgh when Wonderland released NALS it was supposed to chart in the singles chart like most singles with the sales from the EP contributing to it, but the label decided to try and get people to buy the EP as a whole and because the EP was named "An Introduction to Wonderland" rather than just "Not A Love Song" the sales couldn't be combined. They technically sold enough to go top 75, but because of that they decided to pull it from being chart eligible and therefore everyone thought they well and truly flopped. Fair enough, they didn't do well, but they did a lot better than people thought and that whole thing was very easily avoided. I presume Louis will make sure that can't happen here, it's annoying when something should have done better than it's outcome because of a silly error like that.

Like I said before though, I am really excited about this especially that it's going to be multiple songs, sometimes it's hard to read what an album is going to be like from just the one single, so this is going to give us a proper taster.

Yeah, that truly was dumb, thanks for the info :) But I think Shane's single EP will be named after the single title, like Robbie had Different EP.

And like you said, Walsh definitely learned a lot from his mistakes and I'm sure he will be more careful. I mean, I'm sure he managed Westlife better than Boyzone, it is all a learning process.

Although, like you said, that Wonderland issue is more record company's fault. I noticed how London Records always backs Shane up when it is his FilanFriday, so they are invested in him. Also, organizing competitions is also very smart.

I can't wait to hear EP! I won't be able to buy it, but hopefully someone will post it on Youtube :)

Shane confirmed today that his EP will have the single + 3 other songs:

So my first single will be an EP! So 4 new songs in total for you to hear. So excited to share them with you all x

Awesome! So excited to hear them now! To think a few weeks back I was getting so excited about the prospect of the one single, but now it's confirmed we'll get four! Very happy and massively intrigued.
What happened to him being bankrupt?
I think his solo career is crucial to his money problems, so i would like to see him do well to get out of all his debts, it must be terrible to be so successful and have made so much money but end up with nothing.

Well yes, he bankrupted. However, now he signed the deal accompanied by his lawyers and it has been said that some of his earnings from the solo career will go to the creditors:

Steven Cottee commented: "It certainly was an unusual transaction. We are pleased to have helped the Trustee implement an innovative solution whereby Shane can go on to enjoy a productive solo career whilst enabling his creditors to share in his financial rewards”.

By the way, I'm tired on reading comments on the internet saying he deserved to go bankrupt or that because of it, he should flop. I'm not saying I read those comments here, I'm just saying I have seen many many negative comments about Shane's situation. That is sad - it is not like he gambled the money away by buying luxurious stuff, he just tried to invest with his brother and they failed. This happens every day to a lot of people.

Very excited for this, hopefully we'll get a lil teaser of music!

Here is a small 1 minute clip Shane posted on his Youtube:

It is always great to see and hear him.

Did I hear it right - did he say we will have to wait for 5 weeks to hear the single? Or did he say few?

  • Author

He said five weeks, although I'm a little unsure if he means from when he said that (and we don't know when it was recorded) or five weeks from now. Which means we're probably looking at the first week of August for the single release. That will probably be right as they'll probably look to get the album out in late October/early November time to capitalize on the Christmas market. They probably should have held off launching him for a month or two as they're going to have keep people interested in the next month without actually letting people hear the full song. The clip is a little confusing though as he says the single in the background "probably" will be his first single, but we already know they've decided on one now. Anyways the song sounds good, not sure it's going to work well in the summer though and I was hoping he would try and surprise people with a very modern uptempo number for his debut, just because everyone will predict him to do a power ballad. That said, if the song is amazing it doesn't matter and the instrumental in the background sounds gorgeous, I'm definitely intrigued to how it will sound in full. He has an incredible voice so I hope there's some big powerful notes that can really show that off for him.

I was just thinking the same thing about the video... on Twitter he said he will just show us a clip to see how it is going in the studio. I mean, from various news and Gillian's tweets, it sounds like the album is almost mastered. So, I definitely think this is an older video so those "5 weeks" doesn't necessarily mean anything. I agree when you say power ballad wouldn't be good for summer, but hell - maybe that song isn't actually a single as he said this is a "potential single". Maybe it won't be a single at all or maybe it won't be a debut single but rather 3rd.

Nonetheless, melody sounds promising so I am excited about it.

Why it reminds me of 'In This Life'?

I don't know, I don't hear it :D

anyway..

Here is a little info from Shane on Twitter:

Was back where it all started today at Rokstone Studios to do the vocals on a song I wrote with @SteveMacProd & @WayneHector

It is so great he is working with Hector and Mac as they are the ones who wrote many Westlife classics.
