January 14, 201312 yr I agree that Timbaland's production sounds SO dated. He had one perfect album, and has just tried to recreate that sound ad infinitum ever since :drama: One perfect album? If there was any ever a producer that renewed the game it was Timbaland. You need to hear his stuff from the 90s right into the 00s. I agree this isn't as good as his best work ('Oops (Oh My)', 'Pony' or 'Are You That Somebody?' among others) but this man is a legend. Succes in the 90s and BOOM brings back Timberlake and Nelly F. in o six and on top of their game. There's only so many times you can change the game, but I have faith that he can do it again. I actually thought the Missy Elliott tracks from 2012 had great production. Renewing? No, but that's not really necessary. Edited January 14, 201312 yr by Atonement
January 14, 201312 yr Meh, its alright. Was expecting better .... from both him and DC to be fair. It might be a grower I guess, I still look forward to his album regardless. Also why do people keep on comparing everything to Starships?! He wishes it was as good as that.

It came across as if i'm a Timbaland hater, but i'm a massive fan of what he's done in the past, and there is no denying his influence and span of hits etc. BUT 90% of the things he has produced post 2008 have come across as being stuck in the past to me. I might also be blinded because Shock Value is one of my all-time favourite albums, and he has never matched anything on that since :P
January 14, 201312 yr I dunno how this is gonna hold up on repeated listens but I like it on first listen, very understated and I love the chilled R'n'B style of it all, its very retro! I do agree it feels 'buzz single'/album track-ish though, I'm sure he has something even better up his sleeve than this, but until then its wonderful to have him back! January 14, 201312 yr The production at the end is GREAT. You guys are crazy (and i ain't even a loon).
January 14, 201312 yr The production at the end is GREAT. You guys are crazy (and i ain't even a loon). Yeah, the final minute is by far my favourite bit *.* Although i'm not actually sure when it ends/starts when i have it on repeat :drama:

I might also be blinded because Shock Value is one of my all-time favourite albums, and he has never matched anything on that since :P I actually never bothered to listen to Shock Value ('cause I always think of him as just a producer) but I think I should now. Maybe I just like his ''stuck in the past sound'' 'cause anything is better than him going along with the current music scene. Although some of his productions still manage to sound futuristic (even now Missy Elliott's 'Da Real World' album sounds like R&B on steroids) and his newer stuff doesn't really have that. I'll give you that indeed.
January 14, 201312 yr It's definitely a grower but it just makes me want to put on FS/LS and Cry Me A River.
January 14, 201312 yr It sounds ok on first listen, nothing groundbreaking. Hopefully the album will have better to offer
January 14, 201312 yr What the f***? It is so bad. See when I heard that Destiny's Child and Justin were coming back, I was so excited but both of them have just released their first ever BAD single. You had more than half a decade guys.
January 14, 201312 yr I don't hate it! I just think that it's disappointing, I would have preferred him to come back with a club banger instead of this song. :( I would have liked him to make a solo song that reflected on the electro dance genre that's been popular for years and put a completely different spin on it. He could have even coined a new genre of music if he did this. But he hasn't and we're stuck with Timbaland's dated production instead. :drama: Electro music might not be so popular now if it wasn't for Timbaland and Justin Timberlake in the first place you know, especially in the US, where in the mid-00s all the pop stars in their charts were doing Avril Lavigne/Kelly Clarkson/Maroon 5 pop-rock stuff, and the only synths you'd see in the Hot 100 at the time were in Usher/Ciara/Lil Jon/etc. crunk songs. Then Sexy Back, Promiscous, SOS, etc. came along and things started changing. 90% of what Timbaland does is club music, and he's producing most of Justin's album apparently, so don't worry, we'll get more club songs. :) Some of Justin's most loved songs, like Cry Me a River and What Goes Around were mid-tempo like this. January 14, 201312 yr It's just awful. I had such high hopes for this single and it's not good at all. :(
January 14, 201312 yr I have to echo pretty much the overall view of you guys, not 100% on this song. Bit disappointing, which I really didnt want it to be. I mean, I like it, but it is no futuresex/lovesounds tune. Still so excited for the album though pretty sure it's going to be on point!" Hope the video makes up for it being underwhelming though! It could be great! Team Gent. Edited January 14, 201312 yr by Karma
January 14, 201312 yr Hope this is a buzz single! I'm so disappointed, it really does sound like a FS/LS cast-off. Really hoping this has just been released because it features Jay-Z.
January 15, 201312 yr -_- Why so much hate for this? Yes, it is not what a 6 year wait should deliver and yes, it's probably not the anthem it should be given the circumstances, but it's JT people, come on!!!! He is our last hope to be the King of Pop of our generation and he always delivers. This song is far from the atrocity everyone is making it out to be and I'd rather have this over any piece of musical abortion that could come off the Biebs or bloody Cody Simpson.
January 15, 201312 yr Well, that was awful. I don't wanna hear this again. I looooooooove Justin tho. He could come in my bed anytime, but not if he's singing this to me. Total turn off. Is it just a buzz single or what?
