They have had some strong selling singles but they never achieved a platinum selling single which is a disappointing for a boyband.

I actually am sad because of this, I feel like I've grown up with JLS as I'm sure a lot of other people have done. They also have a lot of good songs, especially the utter beauty that is Eyes Wide Shut. Although they did also make one of the worst songs of all time in the form of She Makes Me Wanna. :puke:

But I do wonder if Marvin's new show on Capital had something to do with it.

And also, The Wanted will probably split up next year. One Direction won't split up for another three years at least. I do feel as if One Direction really are the new Take That
Not wishing to be forecasting the worst but I'll be AMAZED if this isn't their last studio album (with a GH set for next christmas) better to go out on a relative high than to go out with a wimper. To be honest I think a GH would be better for them THIS christmas as a farewell, they've gone as far as they can I believe.

Yay me! Although the split was pretty easy to forecast :D They didn't stick to my timetable though! :(

I recall having disagreements with various members in the iTunes thread a while back about how they're basically over, and pretty much everybody disagreed. Um, yeah.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see One Direction go much sooner than that. Their 3rd album (which will inevitably be out before the end of the year) will probably do worse than their first two worldwide, because 18 months is typically the timeframe for boybands like that to be STRATOSPHERIC, and you just know that the second there's a slight downturn in their sales, the teams behind Harry and Zayn will become convinced that the rest of the band are dragging them down and will want to get their solo careers started before it's too late.

It's not exactly shocking news (in fact, I'm pretty sure someone on Buzzjack predicted a 2013 split/greatest hits a while back!). They weren't amazing, but they certainly brought a new light to the current boyband scene. "Eyes Wide Shut" is my favourite single of theirs, but I do quite like "Love You More" and "Everybody In Love" still.

I imagine the tracklist will go like:

1. New song - lead single

2-11. Singles in chronological order

12-14. New unreleased songs

I've spent my whole day being pretty angered about how much publicity they've got over this, no ones cared about them since 2011  Now they are acting like they are some huge boyband that will be missed. They really only have 1 memorable classic song along with a few other successful ones.

I really think that you underestimate how popular they are across the world and in this country. They have an appeal that is totally different from JLS and The Wanted, they have hundreds of millions of fans who are completely and utterly devoted to them no matter what they do. We'll see, but I would not be surprised at all if my prediction was correct.

I'm secretly hoping we get a deluxe version with a 2nd disc of unreleased songs - including 'Ay Mama' which was meant to go on their US EP and 'Outta This World' but they scrapped at the last minute.

They're on Alan Carr: Chatty Man on Friday.

Oh, also, it seems it wasn't as simple as them deciding to split up, it seems their record label weren't willing to renew their contract (one of the bandmembers said something like they were facing the prospect of looking for a new label). Leona's fans should take that as their cue to start getting prettttty worried, since even JLS's last album outsold hers.... :P
Sales for all their singles bar 'Proud' and that second one off 'Evolution'

1. 'Beat Again' (561k)

2. 'Everybody In Love' (464k)

3. 'She Makes Me Wanna' ft. Dev (400k)

4. 'Love You More' (370k)

5. 'One Shot' (352k)

6. 'Eyes Wide Shut' ft. Tinie Tempah (307k)

7. 'The Club Is Alive' (275k)

8. 'Take A Chance On Me' (173k)

9. 'Hottest Girl In The World' (110k)

10. 'Do You Feel What I Feel' (107k)

Oh poor DYFWIF. Probably my favourite single

Does anyone have album sales?

all boybands have a fixed lifespan, the ones that last can write their own stuff and progress. If they are dependant on other songwriters, they tend to last just a few years while they are young and cute because songwriters and producers are always looking for the next young cute boyband (or girlband), unless it's a real collaborative team of songwriters and group (like Girls Aloud & Xenomania) who can keep on producing good stuff.

Me? Not really JLS target audience, never rated their singles highly though they seemed likeable and capable of doing good stuff. Front page of the Sun news though? Hmmm...

maybe the solo stuff will be good.

I am quite surprised at this news. There was still potential there and I thought they'd be the sort of band to just keep trying. They have a few choons but I can't say I'm disappointed since their material was declining in quality.
The Wanted next please.

Nooooooooo my favourite boyband (apart from The Risk/Emblem3/The Collective/Union J/District3/Take That(do they even still count?)

Well Take That are probably my ultimate boyband and most of the bands I've listed haven't even released (successful) singles yet, I do really like Missiles by The Risk though

They've all got individual Twitters now (something I'm finding hard to get used to after years of Tweeting @JLSOfficial but I'm sure it'll pass) but for some reason, instinctively, I get the impression that not all of them are necessarily happy about it ending. I'd say Aston in particular seems the hardest hit and he even Tweeted to a fan that he hasn't really got a backup plan in place yet. And yes I know it's only been a day, but if this decision has taken them three months he'd surely have something on the go like maybe starting a solo album or doing a bit of acting?

And I'm a bit baffled as to why Oritse suddenly has not just his Twitter but a solo website, Facebook and Instagram all on the go so soon after the announcement? I know he means well especially because he put them together as a way of trying to raise money for his mum who has MS but he does seem to have a God's gift view about him like he's Usher or something and it's a bit embarrassing. Particularly when the same lot who look after Peter Andre are managing him now...

I'd like to hear a solo album from Aston the most. Particularly if he's a judge on 'Got to Dance' again because it'd be a brilliant platform for him to launch a single/album from. I love Marvin's Capital FM show so I can see him doing presenting - maybe even with Rochelle when The Saturdays decide they want to bow out. Like Kelly and Michael but more glamorous.
