What position to you think Mark's 4th solo album offering The Art Of Doing Nothing will debut at? (It is highly likely its debut position will additionally be its peak position)

Sorry I thought this was for the single! I think the single will chart in the 30's somewhere, and the album will go top 20 hopefully

I think the single will get low top 40 unless radio really pick up on it but i accept he wont have a huge hit. The album while i would love to go number 1 or top 10 i am not fully sure yet as we cant totally overlook his previous performances in the album chart. That said, he has all the Take That hype around him this time and all that so i do believe he will benefit from that, but will it be strong enough to get him into the top 10.

Based on current album sales 9,000 sales would achieve top 10 for him, and unless i am totally deluded i think Mark could muster up that.

It could go top 10 if he promotes well on the release week and if sales are low, thats what i am hoping for as he so deserves a top 10 solo album.
I put top 75 as not many fans of TT knows about the release, only the die hard fans and from them not all will buy it. With a lot of luck will go for the first week intop 40. The promo seems to be low key till now.

I think he will promote more and more nearer release, especially the week of release. Surely he would have more than enough of a fanbase plus Take That fans to sell more than 3,000 copies on opening week which is all that is needed for a top 40, low top 75 often has sales of under 2,000 so i think he will do more than that.

We'll probably get an indication on how well it will do once the lead single is released. Tbh I was quite enthused by the previews I posted but since the news that the TT album will be pushed back probably because of this album im not that fussed anymore - I'd much rather have a TT album, it'll be 4 years since Progress!

I must too admit that i am extremely disheartened by the news of no new Take That album this year. I would never be as excited about any of their solo releases as i would be for a Take That album. While i would prefer new Take That material, i am thus far liking the sound of Marks new album so that is something to look forward to and fill the gap. With such a long gap in a new Take That album i still would not rule out some form of a Greatest Hits been released this Christmas to fill the long gap between progress and possibly a new single to promote it. Gary had said they had started work on Take That material so a Greatest Hits Collection of some form with even 2 new tracks could easily occur. If they have previously released live albums to fill gaps i think they will follow that path again this year.

That's a good point Pippa, it would explain why Gary is tweeting about being in the studio every day. But problem is if they bring out a new GH then the Ultimate collection will be redundant then and the last 3 albums might experience a complete drop in sales with people just picking up the new GH.

The ultimate collection still sells extremely positively for nearly a 10 year old album!

The ultimate collection has been such a huge seller and continues to sell in low numbers throughout the year. Im not sure how a new greatest hits would do for the, it would depend on what new material they added if they add 3 new songs it could go ok as they have released more than enough material to sell a brand new greatest hits even if they left out all the material before they cameback.
I think that's what they might do, that way they could have 2 constantly selling GH albums, the ultimate collection and a new one with all their comeback singles plus a couple tagged of new ones tagged on at the end

I do see the point in a brand new greatest hits with just the material from patience onwards. There are quiet a lot of people who have only liked their material from that period onwards that had no heed on the old material. Taken this approach would do no damage at all to the Ultimate Collection so in a sense they could have the best of both worlds. It is essential there is some new material added if this is the routine they take to fill the gap and promotion of a single would make a massive difference to the sales of the album. They are able to sell albums no problem but i doubt a greatest hits would sell massively but a double platinum status would be achievable if not more as they managed this alone and more with the first live album.
I think they would manage decent sales without a doubt and to prevent taken sales from ultimate collection it would probably be best to have a greatest hits of just Take That phase 2 material.

I wonder will Marks album get a stand alone release or also a deluxe to go with it.
  • Author
Very good, i will investigate to make sure i make the right purchase, but i would prefer a real physical copy.

Pippa, you can purchase through his official website the deluxe album. It has more tracks (3 if i not mistaken). There was also an exclusive album with some extras (photos, autograph)-this one is already sold out.

I get the impression that Universal is more interested to sell the album than to sell the single, as they are making much more noise about the release date of the album .

The whole focus will evolve around the album and that is where they want the sales from, the single is more or less irrelevant to them. Thank you Iris for that information about the album, im will head over there now to make my purchase.
I hope he isn't putting all his eggs in one basket - if the single doesn't generate hype for the album then he could be in trouble. When is the single actually released? I hope it goes top 40 but I'm not convinced atm if the album is the focus
