Posted May 14, 201312 yr Out of tonight's casualties, I think Austria are the most vulnerable to miss next year's contest as they've only been in the final once since they came back. Edited May 14, 201312 yr by zenon
May 14, 201312 yr I doubt Monetengro will withdraw. At least not because they never qualified in their existence as an independent country.
May 14, 201312 yr I think Malta will bail out, haven't yet a decent entry for ages. ...apart from making the final last year and in all probability making it again this year, in a country that's Eurovision-mad? Yeah, that's not happening.
May 14, 201312 yr Tirren beat me to it but as soon as I read the topic title my first thought was also Austria.
May 15, 201312 yr Malta would probably still participate in Eurovision even if it meant raising taxes by 5% to cover the costs.
May 16, 201312 yr Author I think it's 75% certain Bulgaria will miss next year, I think San Marino will keep trying if they were close.
May 16, 201312 yr I think it's 75% certain Bulgaria will miss next year, I think San Marino will keep trying if they were close. I would say it's the other way round - I'm not sure San Marino have anything else to send. Bulgaria have been persistent up to now although I do fear for them given that it's their only success so far that's failed tonight. After 3 years missing the final would maybe Israel be thinking about it too? They aren't the force they once were.
May 16, 201312 yr I would say it's the other way round - I'm not sure San Marino have anything else to send. Third time lucky for Val!!! What about Latvia? I seem to remember them having money issues before and this is the 5th year DNQ'ing (4th with a really good song too :()
May 16, 201312 yr Third time lucky for Val!!! What about Latvia? I seem to remember them having money issues before and this is the 5th year DNQ'ing (4th with a really good song too :() I'd think they'd be encouraged by all their neighbours qualifying so they have someone to root for. The Former Yugoslavia is much more unlucky in that respect - if Bosnia doesn't come back next year we might see more of them out.
May 16, 201312 yr I have a feeling Bulgaria will not withdraw. Surely Israel won't either. In fact I'm pretty sure Israel won't.
May 16, 201312 yr San Marino are pretty much almost certain to pull out I think. The head of delegation said during the rehearsals that if Val failed to qualify San Marino were giving next year a miss.
May 16, 201312 yr San Marino & Slovenia (apparently on the brink of a Greek-style bailout) are the one's most likely to be giving next year a miss. Bulgaria possibly will pull out but they might just give it another few tries.
May 16, 201312 yr How are the situations looking in Portugal/Bosnia/Turkey? Anyone to replace those who opt out?
May 16, 201312 yr well in Portugal's case RTP said it was only temporarily, but I doubt it. The economic situation in the country is getting worse and worse every year, and the ratings for Eurovision are dwindling to pathetic numbers.
May 16, 201312 yr Turkey is apparently not broadcasting the final due to Finland's lesbian kiss so that's probably put them out for another year at least I'd guess. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Bosnia back next year - although the rest of the Balkans going out won't have helped that cause - and their economy is probably no better than Portugal's.
