Criminally underrated teen pop duo Aly & AJ, who released a pair of excellent albums in the mid-noughties, have been teasing their comeback for what feels like ages (in all fairness, it has been a few years). Now, their return to pop takes official shape as they announce their return as 78Violet (just go with it) and prep their debut single under that new moniker, “Hothouse,” due out on iTunes July 8.

This is 100% happening, guys. 78Violet have confirmed it themselves. They've shot the video for the new single, and have recently been signed to a new management.

It's brilliant, I love their new folkier sound!

If anyone's wondering, they recorded a full album after "Hothouse", but then decided to scrap it. However, that entire album has now leaked (except one song which they re-recorded for their new album).

 

I'm listening to it now, and the album is fantastic so far.

It's so frustrating being an Aly & AJ fan, almost as much as being a Michelle Branch one. At least we got the songs.

The producer of the this scrapped album said that "they're chasing the market". You can read what he said to a fan:

He sounds very bitter, but can't really blame him as they scrapped the whole album. Also, a fan of them on Tumblr said that "Hothouse" was released to attract attention from labels, but so far, nothing. :(
