Daniel Craig has landed the lead role opposite Nicole Kidman in the parallel-world adventure THE GOLDEN COMPASS. Chris Weitz is directing and writing the script, based on the first book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. Filming starts next month in England. Michael Madsen, Vinnie Jones and Richard Chamberlain will star in the boxing drama STRENGTH AND HONOUR, about a retired fighter forced to return to the ring to raise funds for his son's medical treatment. Susan Sarandon and Helena Bonham Carter will play the title roles in ELEANOR AND COLETTE, about a psychiatric patient who hires a lawyer to sue her hospital. Before that, Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) will join Sarandon in THE GIRL IN THE PARK, based on David Auburn's play about a lonely woman who believes that a young woman must be her long-lost daughter. Auburn will make his directorial debut with the film. Mena Suvari and Jon Foster have joined Peter Sarsgaard and Sienna Miller in THE MYSTERIES OF PITTSBURGH, based on the Michael Chabon novel about a group of colourful friends coming of age over the course of a summer. Marlon Wayans will produce and star in PRETTY UGLY, yet another high-concept comedy. It's about a handsome self-help guru who wakes up hideously deformed and must discover his inner beauty to win the woman he loves. Mos Def, Danny Glover, Mia Farrow and Melonie Diaz have joined Jack Black for the movie re-enactment comedy BE KIND REWIND, written and directed by Michel Gondry. Filming starts next month in New Jersey. Karl Urban (Doom) may star in the sci-fi epic OUTLANDER, about a man from another planet who arrives on earth during the time of the Vikings. Filming will take place in Canada this autumn. Filmmaking brothers Michael and Mark Polish (Northfork) have two films in the works: LOOT centres on a heist in during tornado season in Middle America, while HOW TIME FLIES is set in a near-future when time travel is available to everyone. And Billy Zane will star in the zombie horror thriller THE MAD, which starts filming this month somewhere in Canada. It's about a man and his teen daughter who are terrorised by the undead at a truck stop. John Kalangis (Love Is Work) is directing.
