Commentary : For a 3rd straight week Robin Thicke continues his reign at the top. Sultry Romanian singer Antonia edges nearer up from 3 to 2 whilst Lithuanian chart topper Sel rises from 8 to 5 and the UK number one by Naughty Boy jumps from 11 to 6 and Marco Mengoni's Italian Eurovision entry shows staying power by rising from 14 to 9. The chart shows several songs originally recorded in previous years or based on old songs. "Sugar Man" by Rodriguez is a recording from 1977 and brought into the limelight by the US award winning documentary about his life, "Hoy tengo ganas de ti" was originally recorded by Miguel Gallardo in 1977 but re-recorded this year by Alejandro Fernandez and Christina Aguilera, "Cheerleader" by Omi was recorded in 2011 but its popularity spread in the Carribean and beyond more recently, Romeo Santos' "Llevame contigo" was recorded in 2011 but is still on the US latin charts, Xonia's "remember" samples Candy Dulfer's "Lily was here" from 1989, Juan Luis Guerra's "Frio Frio" was originally recorded in 1991 but re-recorded this year as a duet with Romeo Santos this year. In addition the two highest new entries were originally recorded in 2011. Firstly at 15 is the first appearance on my chart for UK singer Emeli Sande who recorded "Read all about it part III" as a sequel to "Read all about it" by Professor Green featuring Emeli Sande which topped the UK chart in 2011. "Read all about it part III" was sung by Emeli Sande at the opening ceremony of the London Olympics but I could not really have listened to at the time ! The song has been a slow burner and is still a hit in several countries and has just been used as a soundtrack to good effect for a shadow dance act on "Britain's got talent" when it really caught my attention. In at 19 is another 2011 song by US indie band Capital Cities whose "Safe and Sound" is a big hit now in Germany due to its use on a Vodafone advert. The final new entry is yet another UK singer doing well in Europe but yet to break the UK market namely Alex Hepburn.
