It's quite different than the oldest Dutch entries...It's not the best song of this year but it sounds decent..It deserves a place in the final.

Such a MoR BLAH.

This is very nice and I do love some country songs! I can tell this is definitely going to get better and better with repeated listens but so far it's just very nice! :kink:

Here is the official video for 'Calm After The Storm':

I'm so shocked about the reaction to this song all over Europe, it is doing incredible things on iTunes and it is suddenly looking like there is an outside chance of this being a possible winner as it is going to do very well on the jury vote too.

The staging and camerawork was absolutely perfect for this song and was my favourite of the night despite it going into the semi-final in the lower end of my top 10 (of the 16 in the semi).

I'd always liked this but it's really snuck up on me the last few days - I haven't been able to take it off repeat at all. This couldn't ACTUALLY do the business could it?! I mean, if it's beating out Sanna, Aram and Andras on iTunes from the semi which looks far more competitive than semi 2, it could be very, very dangerous come Saturday.

Either that or a Molly landslide. I don't think I can quite stretch to believing that though.

I agree, I'm actually seeing a very likely win for The Netherlands now based on what is happening on iTunes. It is definitely going to have done well with juries and it looks like it could have been at least top 3 in the televote plus it has a second half draw. It's looking like the strongest contender from this semi is now 'Calm After The Storm' as like you say it is beating the original favourites convincingly on iTunes and only 'Children of the Universe' could stop it as we don't know the impact that is going to have on the public until the final itself. I still don't think Molly can quite win this though so I wouldn't be surprised at all now to be going to The Netherlands next year. It would be the biggest surprise in recent history based on the 100/1 odds they had before tonight's semi final. :o

I don't quite think it'll win - although if there were any year something like this would win it'd have to be one as open as this. It just doesn't hit the formula for a winner well enough. But then, nothing's really fitted that formula perfectly (Hungary's possibly too bleak, Sanna's possibly too formulaic) short of Molly in my view, and who knows how that'll go down.

I'm inclined to suggest a HOT N HUNGRY UK vs Netherlands vs Malta vs Hungary four-way *.*

Well that would be the best top 4 ever! If the Eurovision viewers are looking for something a bit alternative this year then Malta could be looking very good, even better than many of us have already thought.

I've just found out Sanna's doing fairly well on iTunes too. Chuck THAT in there too.

God BACK TO WHERE WE STARTED except with the Netherlands instead of Armenia. And PRAISE BE! *.*

I wonder where they'll put Sanna in the running order, surely 13th would be too obvious for the current favourite. I'd expect around 10th probably, similar to what Dina got last year.

I loved the performance so much I have it on repeat. Vocals were flawless (except for a few lines the beginning but heyho) And the staging was beautiful as well.

What I secretly might love the most about this is that every Dutch celeb will have to eat their words now about how this ''stands no chance'' and ''is not for Eurovision''. Especially the bitter ones who failed to qualify themselves.

I never expected to say this but I think top 5 isn't out of question right now, especially with us performong in the 2nd half!

Calm After The Storm is currently at #95 in the UK (and you guys didn't even vote in this one) and is the only Eurovision song in the top 100 besides Molly.

I rather like this twist!

#21 in Ireland at the moment, beating all other entries in the Top 200 on iTunes including:

#58 Ireland

#66 Sweden

#80 Latvia

#136 UK

#138 Hungary

it's a great SONG. Performed beautifully, and like Children Of The Universe, quality. Eurovision isn't necessarily about gimmicky stage performances, diva frocks and jolly nursery rhyme tunes. Sometimes people get excited over a song because it's actually damn good. Half the songs in the semi sounded like glittered-up playground chants with playground trashy lyrics and wailing off-key singing, the reason this was a breath of fresh air was it was something for grown-ups and stood out.

Country might not get many big singles hits, but it's always simmering away waiting for the right song to break through to big sales. Hooray! B-)
