'Maybe I'm a Liar'

 

 

Jayrusalem returns (again)! We're back to celebrate the 100th BuzzJack Song Contest. :cheer:

 

 

Our entry is 'Maybe I'm a Liar', an electro-pop song by the London based singer-songwriter Loop. It's produced by Xenomania's Toby Scott, who is responsible for writing/producing some massive pop songs from the likes of Girls Aloud and The Saturdays.

 

Loop: "Maybe I'm a Liar is about that one boy you always say you're done with, but always end up going back to - and the stick you get from your friends about it! I think it's pretty relatable cos most of us girls have got into this cycle with certain kinds of guys!"

 

 

(Given that I'm such a huge lover of pop music, it's probably surprising that very few of the Jayrusalem entries are pure pop songs - so I'm happy to have found one to send for this celebratory contest!) :wub:

The Perfect Kiss

'Indebted to You'

 

 

I last participated in BJSC back in October 2017. I hadn't anticipated on ever returning, but I guess you can never say never! Rob suggested that I should take part, and I figured it would give me something fun to do during lockdown.

 

I heard this song used in the background of an episode of ELITE, and it was the first song I thought of when thinking about what I should send for my comeback. The Perfect Kiss is a project led by Joe Moore (musician, producer, songwriter) with vocals by Holly Vanags - both artists are British. The Perfect Kiss is influenced by 80s synth-pop and disco.

 

I've no idea whether my return will be a one-time thing or if I'll be back for more beyond this contest, but let's see how it goes. :cool: My song is included in Semi Final 1!

In the Semi Final 1 results, Jayrusalem was the last entry to be announced as having made it to the final! That was a very nice surprise. :wub: Thanks to those of you who voted and liked my entry!

 

The last time a final included Jayrusalem was in November 2015, the 80th contest. :o Granted I have only sent three other songs between that contest and this one, but still, it's been a long time! The Perfect Kiss - Indebted to You is Jayrusalem's 11th qualifying song out of 18 entries.

Jayrusalem's latest entry is 'Hurt By You', by American singer-songwriter Donna Missal!

 

'Hurt By You' is an alt-pop song, with a country edge to it. Lyrically it's an empowering song about letting go of a toxic relationship and attempting to achieve emotional distance from it.

I love Donna's vocals on this song, she sounds raspy, powerful and defiant. :heart:

 

This is the most passionate I've felt about one of my entries since Myzica 'Wait Just a Minute' five years ago, and it's fast become of my favourite songs of the year. Many thanks to Joseph who introduced me to this heartfelt bop! :wub:

I first heard Fletcher - Forever last month and it's such a bop, best of luck in the final!

:wub: it's an amazing song! I discovered it when she supported Lewis Capaldi on tour a couple of months ago, she was a brilliant performer too. Alec Benjamin was also scheduled to perform but had to fly home to the US before corona travel restrictions came in - Donna completely turned around my disappointment at not seeing Alec! :heart:

Jayrusalem's third entry of 2020 is 'Just Friends' by 19 year old American singer Audrey Mika! I can't find out much about her beyond the fact that she's amassed a strong YouTube and TikTok following, but hasn't everyone achieved that these days? x All I can say is that we've entered "cute bop" territory this month! :music:
