Oh the Tori Amos one was a tune. A personal favourite of mine from the 90's dance era.

Yeah, Roy Malone remixed the original 1997 slow version.

The Freemasons version of Kelly Rowland's Work is the most well known one, isn't it? (not number one, but it did get to the top five)

Yeah, I'd say so. The Freemasons remix of Green Light by Beyonce as well got loads of airplay.

ATB's '9pm (Til I Come)' used the Sequential One remix here. Music channels keep playing the wrong version <_<
Not quite the same but 19 (Paul Hardcastle) and two of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's number ones (Relax and Two Tribes) all had a prolonged run at the top thanks in part to a string of remixes.

Spacedust 'Gym & Tonic' is a tenuous one... it was a soundalike cover of the Thomas Bangalter remix of Bob Sinclar's 'Gym Tonic'.

The Shamen's 'Ebeneezer Goode' was released in remixed form as a single, I think it was by The Beatmasters.

Are we just including songs that had originally been released as a single?

If so - then why include Professional Widow?

If not - then Mel C's I Turn to You.

Was just about to say this, the original version of 'Work' is so limp that I doubt it'd of been a hit without the Freemasons' help!

The Freemasons definitely improved the song. I was talking about it before, but you could mistake it for a Panjabi MC song. And their remix was good since it had loads going on. Their remix of Mama Do the Hump is another one where I think they improved it. But with some of their other remixes, they remove everything interesting about the song. Like in the Green Light, the original has a really energetic and loud chorus, but their remix of it was just a bit boring. Same with Beautiful Liar, it's really exotic sounding and gets people's hips moving, but the remix was all airy, not very bouncy (if that makes sense).

I thought the original Beautiful Liar was slow and insipid. I loved the remix.
I liked them fairly evenly, the original was far more interesting. But I love an energetic track that I can dance to, so the Freemasons' mix was also fantastic. The was definitely a reason why the Freemasons' remixes got so much airplay around 2007/2008!

Part of the problem with Freemasons remixes is that they're all very similar. But that was presumably a selling point to radio as well.

BTW, the original of 'Professional Widow' was released as a single in America. It must have been a deliberate decision to release the remix as the A-side over here.

It definitely was, primarily as the original version didn't feature on the UK single at all!

The remix originally featured as a b-side to the Hey Jupiter single (or AA?), hence why that track stuck around for longer than most Tori songs. i.e. more than one week!

Does A Little Less Conversation by Elvis not count it was one of 2002s biggest hits?
