October 31, 201311 yr http://garethjames.wordpress.com/2013/10/3...re-to-eternity/ As this review has yesterday's date does it mean that he actually saw the show yesterday? Because if he did he saw something different from me! I went to a preview two week's ago and really enjoyed what I saw and heard but when I saw the show again last night I was mesmerized!! I can't understand how anyone can say the first half is slow or it has something missing!! The whole cast are excellent and put their all into it - it is exhausting just watching them - it takes you through every possible emotion. I thought the beach scene was much more impressive - I think we can safely say that Darius and Karen have now found their chemistry/spark!!! :D I don't know if this is the show the critics saw on 'press night' (as Tamara Harvey said they are still making changes nearly every hour!) but I think that every possible negative they found has now been remedied. I thought it was wonderful and really can't wait to see it again! :yahoo:
October 31, 201311 yr The illusive Magic radio interview has been found. It's just been posted on FHTE's facebook page. forward to 1.30. 00 for the interview. Not listened yet, just the first little bit. Darius has a wonderful voice for radio. Good grief all those ads would do my head in. I could not listen to a station like that. October 31, 201311 yr Author This isn't really about 'From Here To Eternity' but it amused me http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertai...up-8913927.html
October 31, 201311 yr ....a bit like watching your mother-in-law driving off a cliff in your new Ferrari."

October 31, 201311 yr Double post. What kind of song is Marking Time? Edited October 31, 201311 yr by Baytree
October 31, 201311 yr Author Slowish and steady. Not brilliant by itself but well sung and acted and in keeping with the story and it's developments

I thought it was wonderful and really can't wait to see it again! :yahoo: I really thought that as a good review. He's obviously thought about the play and watched it closely. He appreciates all the parts of it, cast and crew but doesn't like the some of the way it's been put together. I think he recognises it's a great piece of theatre but it's not all to his taste. I can appreciate that we don't all feel the same even when we can appreciate how well done something is
October 31, 201311 yr Thanks, megham. I'm slightly disappointed that the song they wrote especially for his voice range isn't remarkable at all. Does Darius have ANY song he can really let that voice loose on?
October 31, 201311 yr Am so pleased that the cast recording is a definite. Thanks for all the links. Really hope I get to see the show again before it finishes. Sue
October 31, 201311 yr Author Marking time has always been there. The new song could be called 'America' but I can't see it as being written for his voice. His part in 'Maybe' may have been as it was just Rebecca's to start with. The new one doesn't sound like any of the others
November 1, 201311 yr Thanks, megham. Roll on the cast CD. That'll keep me going until I can get down to London. I'm aiming for a Wednesday, although I don't have a foreseeable one yet, so I can see FHTE twice. I know me. First time, I'll miss a lot because a rather tall chap will keep drawing my eye. Second time, I'll be able to appreciate the whole show more.
November 1, 201311 yr lol, that sounds like me - I need to go again, as I am so focused on Darius so miss bits
November 1, 201311 yr Well, it's about time! The FHTE facebook page has at last highlighted a quote about Darius (from the livetheatre review). Strange. I had to edit because my post went up in a much larger font. There must be a gremlin in this machine. Edited November 1, 201311 yr by Baytree
November 1, 201311 yr Author I still think one good song from Darius would help it -I wish he'd not been told that Warden was like an oak tree, I'd like him to relax a little but he always plays as directed
November 1, 201311 yr She should give him leeway in his interpretation like Sir Trevor did in GWTW. Rhett was a hard character, a man's man too but he was mellowed by love and family. His love was equally frustrating and emotions ran far higher than those in the film/TV series of FHTE at least. Darius was ALLOWED to have his head, improvise, react to every thing and person on the stage and SHINE. ONly downside, He didn't have a real showtune in that either. He didn't have many songs AT ALL. Is there only room for one hero in Prewitt's story? Apart from I Love The Army (Ryan), Prewitt and Lorene seem to have ALL of the best solos and duets. What do people remember from the film - Deborah and Burt and Frank Sinatra. The latter two were also key in the famous barfight scene. I really can't think of one of Montgomery Clift's scenes other than when he played Taps after Maggio had been killed. Two original roles with two different knights of the theatre................ and he can't get ONE decent song to let loose on. Edited November 1, 201311 yr by Baytree
