November 1, 201311 yr 'Maybe' is a "nice but average" song in my opinion. It wouldn't be nearly as effective sung by someone with lesser ability than Darius and Rebecca. There's no HOOK. Darius could probably write a far better one for the scene himself.
November 1, 201311 yr Author The only one better for him, although there are better songs for others, was the 'Aint where I Want To Be Blues' which works very well indeed
November 1, 201311 yr nomination link for WOS awards Nominate Darius and FHTE :) I don't think Maybe would be so good if D wasn't singing it- mind you his voice brings a certain something to most songs, and I agree the duet with Prewitt was the one that gave his voice a chance to shine - the others were soft, slow numbers, with others singing too
November 2, 201311 yr http://www.tribunemagazine.org/2013/11/from-now-to-2014/ Me, I don't get this tenor thing. I dismissed the last review which said he had an exceptional tenor. I thought "That's a neat trick for a bass baritone!" http://www.theatremonkey.com/SHAFTESBURYbooking.htm Edited November 2, 201311 yr by Baytree
November 2, 201311 yr Author I've always liked him singing in the tenor range. I like the baritone as well. He's lucky to have such a good voice
November 2, 201311 yr I suppose you're right, megham. Darius does have a decent top range without going into falsetto. It's maybe not nearly as powerful as his baritone but it still has the richness. I wouldn't talk about that as tenor but maybe technically, it is.
November 2, 201311 yr at least this one says Darius can go from Tenor to Baritone, his voice does switch so well - the other was just inferring he was a tenor http://stageiac.wordpress.com/2013/10/27/f...tsbury-theatre/ here's another blog form a preview show taken from Twitter Edited November 2, 201311 yr by prettyinpink
November 3, 201311 yr Sunday - I hope Darius has a good relaxing break today. He certainly deserves it after his efforts for the show and charity last Sunday.
November 4, 201311 yr Author Have we had this one? http://www.arbuturian.com/2013/from-here-t...ere-to-eternity But the most outstanding member of the cast is Darius Campbell as First Sergeant Milt Warden, who risks years in prison when he embarks on an affair with Captain Holmes’s steely wife Karen played by Rebecca Thornhill. The beach scene anyone who is a fan of the film is waiting for, features actual waves and a passionate embrace many will recall from the scene with Deborah Kerr, who broke her girl-next-door image when she appeared as Karen, wearing a raunchy black bathing costume and kissed Burt Lancaster as the water lapped the shore.
November 4, 201311 yr Just read on the FHTE site that Tim Rice was on the Alan Titchmarsh show this afternoon. I missed it. Did anyone catch it? Sue
November 4, 201311 yr Just read on the FHTE site that Tim Rice was on the Alan Titchmarsh show this afternoon. I missed it. Did anyone catch it? Sue Yea i did. Sir Tim Rice mentioned D as a Wonderful, Superb or great actor and singer can't quite remember what word was used but nice to hear all the same :yahoo: . He didn't mention the other cast though :( . It was clear Alan Titchmarsh didn't Know anything about FHTE as he refered to D's character being played by Burt Renalds and not Burt Lancaster in the film  . And they showed clips of the musical :w00t: . Looks great I hope I do get to go see it. :yahoo:
November 5, 201311 yr Just watched it on iplayer. There was a nice video intro of clips from the show. It looked very good. He mentioned Rebecca Thornhill too as a very talented actress. He said "Darius is terrific - a fine actor and great singer. He's been in LA for quite a while and has sort of come back to England for this." Edited November 5, 201311 yr by Baytree
November 5, 201311 yr I missed it, but good to hear Darius get a mention :) as for Alan..oh dear, senile moment? surely most people know it was Burt Lancaster -
November 5, 201311 yr You'd think his researchers or even himself knowing there was a segment about From Here To Eternity, could have used a search engine for the most basic of info on the film. I was brought up watching great interviewers who knew their subjects inside out. Right now, like him or not Piers Morgan is the nearest to them. Alan Titchmarsh isn't yet on the bottom rung of that league. As to his attitude to Darius, my jury is out. When he said "And Darius is in it....", STR started speaking but AT didn't stop, he added something about Pop Idol. For goodness sake when will these people crack open the reality TV box and let him out? What on earth does he NEED to do? He's stepped into the shoes of two of Hollywood's greatest actors in their most iconic roles AND tackled the ultimate musical........ 0pera, BUT of course, coming 3rd in a reality TV show 11 years ago is FAR more impressive!!!!!! November 5, 201311 yr What i ment to say was the others didn't get as much of a mention as D. Alan really should of done more research. Really didn't know anything oh dear:(
November 5, 201311 yr just watched the interview, all I know is I didn't notice Alan mention PI, think Tim was talking over that bit..all I noticed was Tim's comments regarding Darius being a great actor and singer and being back in UK for the Musical after being in LA for a time..worked for me :) oh and a couple of short clips showing him
November 6, 201311 yr Author Another good review - most of them seem to be good http://www.allaboutyou.com/country/blog/fr...-musical-review
