I read on the fan forum page that someone was talking to D a few days ago and he mentioned the album is almost finished and D mentioned to them that he'll be touring THIS year. Thought it was all worth mentioning.

Fathom Events and Omniverse Vision have announced plans to film the London stage musical From Here To Eternity, penned by Tim Rice, Stuart Brayson and Bill Oakes, which will arrive in U.S. movie theatres later this year. A 2015 Broadway production may follow.

A release announcing the filming of the musical states that the U.S. cinema arrival will precede a Broadway production slated for 2015. This is the first news of a New York production for From Here To Eternity, which will end its run March 29 at the West End's Shaftesbury Theatre.

Representatives for the London musical did not immediately respond to Playbill.com's request for comment on the news. It marks Rice's first new London musical in 13 years. He is the lyricist of such works as Evita, Chess, Aida, The Lion King and Jesus Christ Superstar.

"After four years of partnering with Fathom Events, it is hugely exciting to embark on our first co-production deal. After a highly successful six-month West End run, this will be a fantastic chance for Fathom audiences to see the U.K. production first, before it hits Broadway in 2015," Omniverse Vision CEO, Grant Calton, said in a statement.

The musical based on James Jones' 1951 debut novel that's best known for the 1953 Oscar-winning film that starred Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, Montgomery Clift, Ernest Borgnine, Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed, will have run for six months, having begun performances Sept. 30, 2013, prior to an official opening Oct. 23.

The cast is led by Darius Campbell as Warden, Robert Lonsdale as Prewitt, Ryan Sampson as Maggie, Siubhan Harrison as Lorene and Rebecca Thornill as Karen.

It is directed by Tamara Harvey, designed by Soutra Gilmour and choreographed by Javier de Frutos. It is produced by Tim Rice and Lee Menzies for Eternity Productions Limited.

Tim on From Here To Eternity from The Telegraph

So why wasn’t Eternity a hit? “I think the biggest mistake we made was not opening out of town. We could have tinkered with it. I also think we charged too much for previews [up to £60]. Previews should be virtually free.”

Eternity has been filmed and will be released in British cinemas in July. “I think it’s a very good piece. Some musicals, like Blood Brothers, Chicago and Chess in America, took two goes. I would put my money on Eternity coming back.”

What did he think of Stephen Ward? “I thought it had a lot of problems we had – the audience was too old. Nobody under 50 or 60 has any intrinsic interest in that story, and the same is true of Pearl Harbor. Or maybe they just weren’t good enough.

“It’s a bit like senior rockers who are loved by their fans as much as ever, but their fans don’t buy the records in the same numbers any more. I’m prepared to say maybe we’ll never do anything else that’s any good. But I like to think that both of us have done stuff, together and separately, that will see us out.”

What does Rice think the future holds for musicals? “There is a reality TV theatre audience out there who go to the theatre now wanting to see a little bit more of what they’ve seen on telly,” he says, wearily. “But I’m not absolutely convinced that it’s the way to find great new writers.

“All the hit shows lately have had something else to get the public interested – even before they hear a note. The X-Factor musical [i Can’t Sing! by Harry Hill] has that. People think, 'Ooh, I like The X-Factor, I’ll go and see that.’ Billy Elliot is a great show based on a great film, and The Bodyguard, too. If it’s an unknown quantity, nobody wants it.”

Rice says his plans for a new musical based on the life of Machiavelli and set to the music of the Rolling Stones are “bubbling away”. He is also revisiting and reworking some of his old, unpublished material, “which nobody knows anything about”, he says, with a wry smile. “And if another idea comes my way that really grabs me, like Eternity did, then I’ll go for it.”

Thanks for the details, Polly.

True to form, I'm caught up in a big family gettogether in Northern Ireland that weekend. I know that the listings regularly change over on Thursdays, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the date won't slip and I can get to see it on the 3rd and maybe squeeze in another showing when I get back from NI.
