Pluto has been stripped of its status, meaning that only eight classical planets are now in existence.

It follows days of heated debate and a vote by 2,500 scientists and astronomers at the International Astronomers Union General Assembly in the Czech Republic.

Pluto, which is furthest from the sun, has been called a planet since being discovered in 1930. It will now be classed in the category of "dwarf planets".

Discovered in 1930, Pluto has traditionally been considered the ninth planet, and furthest from the sun, in the solar system.

In addition to the categories of "planet" and "dwarf planet", the definition creates a third category to encompass all other objects, except satellites, to be known as small solar system bodies.

pmsl..... id bloody hit em if they did!!!

I'm gutted :( I love plantes sad i know lol but i wanted there to be more planets not less :( so what if he doesn't sweep up :(

He will always be a planet in my eyes..if they demote neptue i shall go mad!

I think people will complain and he will become a planet again :D But they should also make some of them other new mini planets they found planets because it'd be good to have loads of planets.. i know i am rambling on but it's late and i'm tired and i can't think at this time in the morning

Its actually pretty obvious to see why it was demoted ^_^

-Its size [tiny in comparison to all other planets]

-Its composition [Centre made from Ice]

-Properties more akin to a comet [shape of its orbit is more oval than over planets, comets' orbits tend to be oval in shape]

Pluto should never have technically have been given planetery-status nor is it really a dwarf-planet (its new status) but people are too cnservative to label it what it really is; a comet as its a too larger step forward -_-
