August 11, 201311 yr Ride is delicious. :( Out of the remaining three I'd like a Video Games win plz.
August 11, 201311 yr Yeah, Video Games to win out of what's left. I never got the fuss with Ride, I can see its ambitious in its themes and video as a song, but I just found it very dreary as a song. Edited August 11, 201311 yr by Chez Wombat
August 12, 201311 yr Author 3 VIDEO GAMES AVERAGE RATING: 8.84 "He holds me in his big arms, drunk and I am seeing stars, this is all I think of" http://i41.tinypic.com/2s0lpcl.jpg Just making the top 3 is 'Video Games'. Fans and non-fans of 'Video Games' need to appreciate that this is the track that got her noticed online and helped with the release of 'Born To Die' and the record deal. And as her first proper debut single, it does hold a special place in many Lana fans' hearts. The track itself is very reductionist with there being just mainly Lana's voice with some light instrumental in the background. It is a very moody and sombre track. Lana confirmed in an interview that the song is written about two past boyfriends. The verses are meant to represent how she wanted her relationship to be with one of the men, whilst the chorus is about how her relationship was with the other man. The vocals are very sad sounding, but the lyrics are bittersweet happiness with an underlying melancholy, much like her other material. Critics regard 'Video Games' as a haunting modern classic, suggesting it is still her best song to date. Lana is, again, in full story-telling mood here as she reminisces the days gone by, which is all perfectly well but with the material she's putting out, maybe her best days are still ahead of her. She has been compared to Nancy Sinatra. Video Games peaked at #9 on the official UK chart and has sold over 400,000 copies. It remained in the top 40 some time and climbed up the chart when 'Born To Die' (The single and the album) were both released. It also received some very healthy scores from raters here, and despite not achieving many 11s, it did get a very good bank of 10s as seen below. The official homemade video to 'Video Games' has now achieved about 100 millions views, split between her Vevo account and her personal account. cE6wxDqdOV0 TOP RATES: 11 Chez Wombat Jester 10 X leww x Dandy * Mariah Scary O Mie d'Bartoli Grebo Ashley Acoustic JosephVickers1D vidcapper
August 12, 201311 yr Completely amazing top 3. I love 'Video Games' but find SS (with the help of the remix) and NA both have more substance to them. I can definitely see VG becoming a classic though. Or at least a "cult classic" or whatever.
August 13, 201311 yr Ugh Born to Die only 5th  So silly I was the only one who gave it an 11 too! :drama:

August 13, 201311 yr The Summertime Sadness verses >> The National Anthem chorus >> Can't call it but i think i'm rooting for Summertime now. I agree with this although I do love the whole of NA (but the "tell me i'm your national anthem" bit is by far the best). Other than that, I love the "can we party later on, he said yes" and "he said to be cool, I don't know how yet" parts.
August 14, 201311 yr 'Summertime Sadness' is SO dull! The remix makes it a bit more exciting, but still. I do love 'National Anthem' a lot, it's not her best but I'm rooting for it here.
August 15, 201311 yr Author 2 SUMMERTIME SADNESS AVERAGE RATING: 9.03 "Oh, my god, I feel it in the air. Telephone wires, above, are sizzling like a snare. Honey I'm on fire, I feel it everywhere, nothing scares me anymore." "Even if you're gone, I'm gunna drive, drive." http://i43.tinypic.com/2gwfdxe.png Missing out on the number one by a small amount is current single 'Summertime Sadness'. The track is taken from her 'Born To Die' album and is between 'Million Dollar Man' and 'This Is What Makes Us Girls'. Lana, in an interview said she thought that fans would like 'Summertime Sadness' in particular when it's on the album. It was chosen as her 7th single overall (6th from the dual album release) and is the fifth to some from 'Born To Die' after 'Ride' was released from 'Paradise'. It is quite an unusual release in the way that many thought if there was to be another single, it would be from the latter half of the album, with 'Cola' being rumoured. 'Summertime Sadness' is one of the more instant tracks on the album, making an impression on both fans and casual listeners. It has received mixed to positive reviews from critics, some stating that this is pretty much Lana on auto-pilot, where as others have said this is a catchy track with a great hook. Lyrically, it speaks of sadness. Also, being alone, and making these decisions yourself, whilst reminiscing better days. The verses are quite positive however, adding to the layers of emotion which are oh so frequent in Lana's songs, showing her as a confused songstess. She's cut off ties with her lover here and is walking down the street alone, being aware of her surroundings and feeling alive. Perhaps, the most telling line of the whole track is "Think I'll miss you forever/Like the stars miss the sun in the morning skies/Later's better than never/ And even if you're gone I'm gunna drive". The video features Lana and Jaime King showing flashbacks of the portrayal their relationship, ultimately ending in suicide for both. A remix was promoted as the single by Cedric Gervais, which is ensuring 'Summertime Sadness' to become a worldwide hit. It has currently peaked at #4 on the UK charts giving Lana her 3rd top 10 hit and her first top 5 hit. 'Summertime Sadness' actually received the most 10s and 11s out of all tracks, but was less consistent in scores than 'National Anthem'. Still, an average of 9.03 is absolutely fantastic and really highlights raters' support. nVjsGKrE6E8 akhmS1D2Ce4 TOP RATES: 11 NickF1 Randomfurlong Kath Acoustic 10 HausOfKubrick Liam X leww X Dandy* O Mie d'Bartoli Luciano Grebo Pavslut Ashley CallumTheSats4 vidcapper Edited August 15, 201311 yr by cookie_monster
August 15, 201311 yr YAY. Perfect top two and in the right order. :D Would probably up "Summertime Sadness" to a ten now. Thanks for hosting cookie_monster. ^_^
August 15, 201311 yr Author 1 NATIONAL ANTHEM AVERAGE RATING: 9.13 "Red, white, blue's in the sky, summer's in the air baby heaven's in your eyes" "we're on a quick sick rampage, wining and dining, drinking and driving, excessive buying, overdose and dying" "Dark and lonely, I need somebody to hold me. He will do, very well, I can tell. I can tell. Keep me safe in his belltower hotel." "Wind in my hair, hand on the back of my neck, I said can we party, later, he said yes yes yes yes." "TELL ME I'M YOUR NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!" http://i42.tinypic.com/o7r1xk.jpg So here it is! This is Buzzjack's winner, 'National Anthem' is your favourite Lana Del Rey track. It was released as the fourth single from 'Born To Die' and has enough Lana sass to help it stand out on an album of deep emotion, whilst still remaining an underlying feeling of melancholy. If did not receive much significant UK support other than radio 1 play, which helped it chart in the top 100. It incorporates rap influences in the verses. The track also uses many references including Queen of Siagon as well as The Hamptons (New York). Here's Lana's desire of the American dream is explored and described including money and love as well as partying, dining and 'overdosing and dying'. But perhaps, the masterpiece is the massive, sweeping and catchy chorus that will get lodged in your brain for months if you let it. Lana really shows her desire to be fixated with love, money and America. The music video used A$AP Rocky as John F Kennedy, with Lana representing Marilyn Monroe at the start, singing 'Happy Birthday' to the president and later on she was compared to Jackie O. Lyrics of 'National Anthem' strongly relate to these two characters with lines such as "I said get real, don't you know who you're dealing with" and then "Do you think you'll buy me lots of diamonds?" The music video shows a deeply romantic, intense and obsessive relationship which ultimately ends in tragedy and gunshots. The music video has received mainly positive reviews with critics admiring the work and the video has now gained over 24 millions views on her personal account and Vevo combined, despite 'National Anthem' not being released or promoted in many countries. The song itself has gained universal critical acclaim, with many liking the contrast between the sadness in the instruments and the euphoric chorus. Some have noted it presents a 'well-heeled' man and a blank canvas woman. The track garnered four 11s and ten 10s, meaning that it received exceptionally high scores with there being just one 4, two sixes and the rest of the scores being over 6. The demo is much more poppy, and the album version eventually used does sound a lot different. sxDdEPED0h8 JmyZTfTdRjY TOP RATES: 11 SceneofSIXcrimes Ilove1992 JosephVickers1D Jáhq 10 X leww X Dandy* Regina Nick F1 Cookie_monster Chez Wombat Ashley Jester Rabbit Heart CallumTheSats4
