I suspect there will be no surprises to see 'The Look of Love' at the bottom. Last single from Madonna's first soundtrack Who's That Girl? (despite Madonna only performing 4 of the 9 tracks), the fact it had no video and was released in selected European countries and Japan most likely play factors as to why this is very unmemorable. Before re-listening to the track, I could just remember how the chorus went!

A sweet song written about a child's fantasy, 'Dear Jessie' was also a final single, this time the last to be taken from Like a Prayer. This time, it had a video, although Madonna only appears as a cartoon character. I suppose some may find this hard to take seriously, but I quite like this. In fact I wish I had given this an 8 rather than a 7.

Can't really argue with the outcome so far dear Jessie was written about Patrick Leonard's daughter . Shame it wasn't featured on celebration IMO!!!

For me, it's my least favourite Madonna single from the 80s - there's nothing which makes it catchy really, although that early Madonna sound due to the involvement of John "Jellybean" Benitez (who produced songs on Madonna's debut album) helps push my rating of it to a 5. 'Spotlight' was a Japan only release taken from Madonna's remix album You Can Dance.

'Causing a Commotion' scored 103 points which is the same as #22, plus both scored the same amount of 10s so I had to look at the amount of 9s to settle who would be #23. Not one I take much notice of but it's still a nice enough song. It was the second single from the Who's That Girl soundtrack and is probably my second favourite single from it too, although it is close between this and 'The Look of Love'.

I'd have liked this to be higher, although it did have two no votes (using the average of 7 to fill in these blanks, 'Angel' would have managed #19). Third single from Like a Virgin, this was another single with no video, although this didn't stop it from being successful (albeit nowhere near as such as the immediately preceding and succeeding singles).

First ever single from Madonna yet Buzzjack's least favourite single from Madonna's debut album. It's one of my least favourites from the 80s so I'm happy that this missed the Top 20 and that it's going to be a while until the next single from Madonna.

THREE tens out in a row? What a slap in the face.

Angel is a fan favourite

 

Casual fans are not aware of the song due to there not being a video and it not being featured on any greatest hits

'Gambler' was the second single from the soundtrack to Vision Quest and it's another track I don't find surprising to be this low or that I'm too fussed about being low. Not that it's a bad song, although the chorus is too weak for my liking.

This received some shockingly low scores - A THREE?!?!! - and unfortunately those with the right sense could only help this just make the Top 20. This is one of my favourite Madonna songs, third from the 80s. Such a romantic song without sounding cheesy, some stunning vocals as well. This was the first single from Vision Quest and is probably one of the best examples of "should have been a number one" due to it making #2 on original release and re-release.

'Cherish' seems to be generally liked here, since the lowest score aside the 4 was a 6. No surprise really as I find it a very innocent song, not one you can really hate. Third single from Like a Prayer, thankfully it hasn't been overshadowed by the previous 2 singles as I've seen it on the TV just as much as those.

Another track that is well liked here but hasn't received any particularly brilliant scores, 'Who's That Girl' was the first single from the soundtrack of same name and is easily the best single from it. Not sure how well known this is to casual fans though, it was a number one in the UK and US, but doesn't seem to be as big as other big Madonna hits.

Poor Gambler, though hardly unexpected. Probably her most 'forgotten' single of the 80's I would say (except Spotlight, but that was only released in a few places), suffering most from the fact it came out during her true imperial phase and got lost in the shuffle somewhat.

I managed to miss that having fixated on Gambler! Utterly, utterly RIDICULOUS. Like I know she has numerous classics from this period but it is WITHOUT DOUBT one of them.

I missed out on doing this rate but the result for crazy for you is shockingly low, it would have received a 10 from me had i made it on time.

No surprise to see this the lowest of the True Blue singles although I'd have thought it would be a little lower - was surprising to see so many 7-9s for it. A song about then-husband Sean Penn - which is perhaps why it not performed on tour any more - 'True Blue' is probably the least remembered song from Madonna's Top 10 best sellers (placed at #8 as of 2010).

Easily my favourite track from Madonna's 80s singles! :wub: Such a touching song with an equally so video that is about Madonna's childhood and her relationship with her father. 'Oh Father' received quite a lot of 9s and 10s but unfortunately some tasteless members rated this too poorly which means it just scrapes the Top 15. This has been covered by several artists, including Sia of 'Titanium' and 'Wild Ones' fame.

Another track from Madonna's best selling studio album, True Blue, 'Live to Tell' was the lead single although I usually mistake 'Papa Don't Preach' as the lead single. Like 'Oh Father', this received many deservedly high scores but the low ones brought its average down. I used to dislike this track as I found it quite boring, but I saw sense in the end! :P

I can remember first hearing this on Celebration and loving it straight away (can't believe I only gave this a 7, it's more of an 8 or 9!). 'Dress You Up' was a brilliant opener for The Virgin Tour, one of my faves! This received quite a lot of 9s and a lowest score of only 6 - I seemed to remember some not liking this a lot so I was quite surprised to see such a good response in the rate.

Dress you up , live I tell and especially oh father are some of my fav tracks ever !!!!

 

Many tasteless people obviously don't like the Madonna ballad.

 

True blue is always still on radio it's always played on heart / magic.

 

Pink also sung oh father in front of la Reid for her record deal audition !
