"Beautiful Liar" was released as the first single from the deluxe edition of B'Day and instantly became another UK #1 for both singers, just months after their last ("Déjà Vu" for Beyoncé and "Hips Don't Lie" for Shakira). Heavily incorporating Hispanic and Arabic elements into the production of the track, the song is a female empowerment anthem about two females being pursued by the same man and eventually agreeing that he is not worth their time, which was compared to 90s collaboration by Brandy & Monica, "The Boy Is Mine". This is another song which was remixed by the Freemasons to aid its success and again they worked wonders on it. It received very little hate on here, again being given only one score below a 7 (without which it would've placed third, showing the closeness of what is to-come!)
August 14, 201311 yr Author JlxByc0-V40 05: "Sweet Dreams" (8.820) From 'I Am... Sasha Fierce' Highest rate: 11 (O Mie d'Eliza & HausofKubrick) Lowest rate: 2 (Jáhq) Opening up the top five is the final Sasha Fierce song, the Europop-influenced "Sweet Dreams". Originally titled "Beautiful Nightmare", it was later released as the fifth single from the album (fourth in the UK) and became another top ten hit for Beyoncé. The instrumentation makes heavy use of synthesisers, giving it a bit of an 80s-style groove, which has been compared by critics to Michael Jackson's Thriller album. The lyrics tell of a relationship that is so good, the protagonist believes it could be a dream. During live performances, Beyoncé has mashed the song up with Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)", which was pretty ingenious on her part. I'm not surprised that it's placed so high here as it's one of the most 'pop' songs that Beyoncé has ever recorded. I was a huge fan of it back in the day though, so I'm not begrudging its placing.
August 14, 201311 yr Author http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m20q8swbTA1r6f3edo1_r4_500.gif 1: I Am... Sasha Fierce (8.958) Highest rate: 11 (Leonardo & O Mie d'Eliza) Lowest rate: 5 (Nick F1) So that's it! The winner of the albums rate and officially Buzzjack's favourite Beyoncé album is I Am... Sasha Fierce! Originally designed as two separate EPs showcasing different personalities and styles of Beyoncé's music, it was an instant fan-favourite as different fans got to hear the kind of music that they like from Bey. The first disc, I Am..., showcases a more laidback style of music, mainly comprising of R&B ballads that have a deep personal connection to Beyoncé, whilst the Sasha Fierce disc contained more Europop-inspired songs, performed as part of Bey's on-stage persona (also titled Sasha Fierce). The electropop can be a bit too much at times on the second disc, although overall I probably prefer it due to the sheer volume of mid-/low-tempo ballads on the first. There's still no denying that this is her most iconic album to date, so it's only fitting that it was voted as her best overall.
August 14, 201311 yr Oh 'Sweet Dreams' was my last hope of actually loving the eventual winner. Out of the four, I think I'd prefer a 'Crazy In Love' win even though it is not really her best. 'Irreplaceable' is too MOR for my liking as is 'Halo' while 'Telephone' isn't really her single.
August 15, 201311 yr all my fave are out, at least Sweet Dreams, Naughty Girl, Beautiful Liar and Déjà Vu are in top 10. Top 4 is pretty weak imo.
August 15, 201311 yr Brilliant trio there. Sweet Dreams is my current favourite from her (personal reasons *cry*). And as much as i love it, Telephone can't win this. Supporting Halo but i think it will be Crazy In Love.
August 15, 201311 yr Author 2EwViQxSJJQ 04: "Irreplaceable" (8.960) From 'B'Day' Highest rate: 11 (FleetSeb & Acoustic) Lowest rate: 2 (Nick F1) At #4 is the last B'Day single to appear, the R&B mid-tempo ballad "Irreplaceable". The lyrics talk about the breakdown of a relationship with an unfaithful man and Beyoncé demanding that she keeps all shared possessions. The song was cowritten with Ne-Yo and was intended for both genders to be able to relate to it, despite the female empowerment message. The instrumentation is fairly different to most of Bey's songs, heavily incorporating acoustic guitars to give it a country-feel. The main hook is one of Beyoncé's most iconic and has been compared to 2011 single "Best Thing I Never Had" and again it's a great live performance, with Beyoncé getting different sections of the crowd to sing each section. I'm not surprised at the position that this has finished in, although had I given it a 10 (as I only gave 7 by accident), it would've been one placed higher...!
August 15, 201311 yr When I bought her I Am...Yours tour DVD, I was really excited to see her perform this live so when she allowed the audience to sing the complete first half of the song, I was so pissed off!
August 15, 201311 yr I'm surprised to see Naughty Girl do so well. It's a decent track, but it's my least favourite of the first album singles by quite some distance. Would have preferred a 4 win instead of Sasha Fierce with the albums as well, the latter is just a tiny bit overrated. I hope Telephone's out next. It's one of Gaga's best, but I wouldn't have placed in the top 10 for a Beyonce list.
August 15, 201311 yr Author ViwtNLUqkMY 03: "Crazy In Love" ft. Jay-Z (8.960) From 'B'Day' Highest rate: 11 (FleetSeb & Acoustic) Lowest rate: 2 (Nick F1) Finishing in bronze medal position is Beyoncé's best song ever and my favourite song ever, the song that introduced us to her (officially) as a solo artist: "Crazy In Love"! The song is another funk-inspired song (this time from the 70s) and is based around the Chi-Lites's song "Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)". The song won two Grammy Awards, and rightfully so. The music video is one of Bey's most iconic, featuring THAT orange dress and dance, which was emulated by Russell Kane for Let's Dance For Comic Relief in an hilarious performance. I'm ever-so-slightly disappointed that this has missed out on the top two, especially considering one of the songs left in the running, but there's no denying the classic status that this holds, both for Beyoncé and for Jay-Z.
August 15, 201311 yr Halo to win this please! I always found Deja Vu to be very overrated. She's made so much better since then
August 15, 201311 yr I'm happy Irreplaceable made the top 5, my personal favourite, but Halo to win now!
August 15, 201311 yr Oh and bother songs in the top 2 would be worthy winners, though I think Telephone is slightly the stronger.
August 16, 201311 yr Surely 'Telephone' can't win this? One of her proper songs should really take the title even if I'm not the biggest fan of 'Halo'.
August 16, 201311 yr Well, pretty much near all my favourites are oot now! Not sure what Green Light is doin anywhere near top 20 but ya know!
August 19, 201311 yr Author EVBsypHzF3U 02: "Telephone" w/ Lady GaGa (9.229) From 'The Fame Monster' Highest rate: 10 (Liam, Griff, Jáhq, Michael!, Conderella, Eyes, Lovett, Mikeyjosh, Johnkm, FührerWall, CallumTheSats4, HausofKubrick & AaronTM) Lowest rate: 5 (Nick F1) Finishing in an undeserved second position is the second song to feature Lady GaGa, taken from the re-release of her début album. "Telephone" was written for her The Fame Monster album as 'the fear of suffocation' monster, despite originally being written for inclusion on Britney Spears's Circus album. Beyoncé was ultimately chosen to record the song with GaGa, and features a form of rap from her, against the synthpop instrumentation. The song is a lot of fun though, but I think it's unfairly placed here as it is not representative of Bey's back catalogue at all. bnVUHWCynig 01: "Halo" (9.320) From 'I Am... Sasha Fierce' Highest rate: 11 (Eyes, FührerWall & Davidson) Lowest rate: 6 (Nick F1) So here we have it, Buzzjack's favourite Beyoncé song is "Halo"! It was originally included on the I Am... disc of her 2008 LP and was intended to give a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Knowles' life, making it one of her most emotional songs to-date, with equally delicate production to match the mood. There was slight controversy upon its release as Kelly Clarkson claimed that producer Ryan Tedder had reused the arrangement in her song "Already Gone" (released four months later on her All I Ever Wanted album). Despite this, "Halo" went on to win Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 2010 Grammy Awards, performing the song at the ceremony too (which has since become her iconic concert-closer for future performances). I'm very glad this this of all songs won as it is one of Bey's most emotional songs to date and the music video is one of her highlights too. The lyrics are also incredibly poignant when she performs this live and all-in-all it cements Bey as my favourite artist of all-time.
