Sasha Fierce' Highest rate: 9 (Liam) Lowest rate: 4 (Nick F1 & Griff) Opening up the top fifty is a cover of "Fever", a song made famous by Peggy Lee in the 50s. Beyoncé first covered it for the soundtrack to The Fighting Temptations (a film in which she starred), and she re-recorded it for use in the commercial of her fragrance 'Heat'. It's a decent enough cover, but not Beyoncé's best. It definitely helped sell the perfume though, with the accompanying advert being banned for broadcast before the UK watershed due to 'saucy' images! A trio of 4 tracks appear next, beginning with "Start Over". Again, it's nice enough, but it pales in comparison to the rest of the album for me due to the constant high quality that surrounds it. The adore the production on it though, starting with the percussion and building up to an explosive finale. "Lay Up Under Me" is at #48 and perhaps suffers due to being similar to another of the bonus tracks on 4, "Schoolin Life'", which is still to come. Still, it's a great fun retro R&B song that again tells the story of Beyoncé's love for Jay but from a less serious approach. The third of the 4 tracks is lead single "Run The World (Girls)", one of Beyoncé's most divisive singles to date. Sampling "Pon De Floor" by Major Lazer, the song shocked fans due to the choice of direction, which (thankfully for some) did not reflect the parent album, and almost feels out-of-place on it. I still love it though and Beyoncé's best songs to dance to. Another of I Am... Sasha Fierce's duller tracks closes the section, this time "Disappear". Beyoncé's vocals are nice, but that's pretty much all there is to say about it again.
July 31, 201311 yr I can't at Start Over that low :( My favourite non-single on 4 after the glorious I Was Here! Really like Run The World too, I know it isn't her most loved single but I thought it'd be higher than this. And I love Disappear too, but then with the singles, Ave Maria and Smash Into You the ballad half of IASF is pretty amazing.
July 31, 201311 yr Speaking of 'I Was Here', the sooner it comes the better. I can't have it polluting Bey's top 20.
July 31, 201311 yr What are Run the World and ESPECIALLY Diva doing so lowww We share the same opinion. :o
July 31, 201311 yr I ditto the above, I never ever got why people disliked Run the World and why it flopped, I really like it.

Lowest rate: 0 (O Mie d'Eliza) 42: (6.820) From 'I Am... The first is "1+1", the gorgeous ballad taken from Beyoncé's most recent studio album. It was premièred to the world as an American Idol performance, and following that husband Jay-Z posted a video of Queen B rehearsing the song backstage which went viral and is one of the reason's why I love the song so much as it clearly means so much to the pair of them. At #41 is another 4 track (leaving 8, compared to 12 from B'Day, 9 from I Am... Sasha Fierce, 6 from Dangerously In Love and 5 non-album songs), this time the beautiful anthem of Beyoncé's longing for her past lover. It's heavily synthesizer-based and was co-written by Beyoncé with Frank Ocean. One of the other 11s is for "Hello", a track from the Sasha Fierce... album. It's another very nice ballad, but on an album that has "Halo" it is pretty much redundant. Still, it's a nice break from the upbeat tracks on the album, and is another great vocal show. Another Sasha Fierce song is here, this time the lead single and one of Beyoncé's signature hits, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)". It immediately became Bey's fifth Billboard #1 and the music video is an absolute classic. The production may annoy some but the song itself is amazing and nobody can deny the greatness of its video (except for maybe Taylor Swift). "Save The Hero" is at #44, from the other disc of the album, I Am.... The chorus is quite infectious despite the laidbackness of the track as a whole. It definitely deserves to have beaten the songs from I Am... that we've already seen.
July 31, 201311 yr Wait Ego, Video Phone and DIVA out already! I didn't expect them to be flying high, but definitely not some of the first few out </3 (blaming sillybean Johnkm forever)

Lowest rate: 3 (Michael!, Johnkm & FührerWall) 36: (7.000) From 'Cadillac Records OST' Highest rate: 9 (Liam, Lukuzz, Lovett, Mikeyjosh, O Mie d'Eliza & THEO.) Lowest rate: 1 (Nick F1) Opening up the top 40 is "Ave Maria", a reworking of the classic hymn. It's a beautiful piano-led ballad that was inspired by both Beyoncé and co-writer Amanda Ghost's respective marriages, which was played up to on the I Am... tour as B performed the song complete in wedding dress! I imagine it's definitely one of the songs closest to her heart. The fourth song with Jay-Z is next, taken from B'Day (with two more songs from the album accompanying it). It's not the duo's most inventive track, and does seem redundant when there's already a mid-tempo duet between the pair in the superior "Déjà Vu" on the album. The second B'Day song is "Resentment", the gorgeous ballad originally recorded by none other than Victoria Beckham(!!!). I completely fell for the song after hearing Bey singing it in her autobiographical docu-film Life Is But A Dream, taken from her Revel Presents: Beyoncé Live show, and it really gives B'Day a more meaningful perspective. "Get Me Bodied" is the final in this trio and is a complete change of pace. It was released as the fifth US single from the album and the music video features ex-Destiny's Child members Kelly and Michelle as well as sister Solange again. It's a fun upbeat R&B song, which was later remixed in 2011 as part of Michelle Obama's Let's Move! weight-loss campaign. At #36 is the second soundtrack song to appear and a cover of the Etta James CLASSIC "At Last". Released in 2008 for the soundtrack to Cadillac Records about the record company that helped Etta and other artists in the 40s rise to fame. Beyoncé was asked by President Obama and his wife to perform the track for the 2009 Presidential Inauguration. It's a gorgeous cover and every time Beyoncé performs it, it's managed to be just as special as the last (with the most recent televised performance from Bey's Chime For Change set in which influential women past and present appeared on the backdrop as it was sung).
August 2, 201311 yr Wait Ego, Video Phone and DIVA out already! I didn't expect them to be flying high, but definitely not some of the first few out 3 (blaming sillybean Johnkm forever) You should blame Beyonce for neglecting to record GOOD SONGS. Same goes for Run The World in all it's tuneless craptitude. It's funny that those songs are all essentially abysmal verses leading up to a wholly underwhelming ''chorus'' of just the title repeated.

It's funny that those songs are all essentially abysmal verses leading up to a wholly underwhelming ''chorus'' of just the title repeated. But all of those songs aren't Pop on the most part so anthemic choruses and catchy hooks aren't always going to be a priority. RTW, 'Diva', 'Ego' and 'Videophone' might not have all those elements which conventionally determines whether something is a good pop single or not, but they have other elements which are great yet are sadly ignored by a lot of people on this forum/general public. 'Run The World' in particular gets a lot of hate (especially when it was released in '11) but whenever it has come on in a club, everyone loves it - same goes for 'Videophone'. The fact that Beyonce has the balls to release songs like these (even as lead singles) is one of the many reasons why I respect her. Edited August 2, 201311 yr by SceneofSIXCrimes
August 2, 201311 yr Well I know we're coming at this from opposing viewpoints but whether a song is good to dance to or sounds good in a club are not even remotely a concern to me, hence my not enjoying them. I will freely admit I don't like R&B Beyonce as much as pop Beyonce either and the same is true for any artist, a nice big standard pop hook will win out any time for me.

I love both R&B and Pop Bey but I think R&Bey edges it for me. I just love the likes of 'Party', 'I Miss You', 'End of Time', 'Run the World', 'Naughty Girl' etc. I find Pop Bey to be quite pedestrian sometimes though. Songs like 'Hello', 'Best Thing I Never Had' etc are just a bit boring. Actually a lot of the I Am... disc is just that bar the singles and maybe 'Disappear'.
