May 11, 201411 yr It's easy to forget how awful their away form was earlier on - they seemed to be swapping places with United early on. A lot has been said about Liverpool's recent run, but City's since the start of December has been amazing as well. Add in a spare defender and a proper holding player (so Richards and Rodwell had they lived up to expectations, basically) and they'll be difficult to catch next season.

The problem is though, they certainly need to buy some British players if they're getting rid of the likes of Lescott, Rodwell, Richards. That's where I think they'll come in to problems in the summer. Expect they'll dominate for a couple of years now with this team and squad, but the challenge for them will be replacing the vital bits when the time comes around.
May 11, 201411 yr It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if City tried to get Darlow off us, or Chelsea, and Liverpool have been linked to (though I don't think they have much trouble for hitting the quota)

The quota will certainly be of impact to Chelsea and Man City over the summer. Certainly something to keep an eye on.

May 12, 201411 yr I kinda would have preferred Liverpool to win the title this year- having played a much more open and exciting game throughout the season. Anything but Chelsea really. Zzzz.

Not to be, but confident we'll be challenging for the foreseeable future despite what the pundits and other fans will have you believe. If anyone bottled the title this season it was Chelsea.

If anyone bottled the title this season it was Chelsea. Surely going from clear favourites with four games to go to clear second favourites with one game to go is a clear case of bottling it.
May 12, 201411 yr I don't think "bottle" is the right word for Chelsea - that suggests they cracked under pressure when in fact they slipped up when there was very little.
May 12, 201411 yr Surely going from clear favourites with four games to go to clear second favourites with one game to go is a clear case of bottling it. We were only favourites from the Manchester City game, to the Chelsea game. That's two games. We lost due to an unfortunate slip. It's football and it happens. I don't think "bottle" is the right word for Chelsea - that suggests they cracked under pressure when in fact they slipped up when there was very little. It was Chelsea's title to lose. They beat the top two home and away yet still finished third. If they'd have beaten Norwich and Sunderland they would have won the title. Fact is (and it's why I don't think they'll win the title under Mourinho) the teams with no hope know how to beat this Mourinho set-up.

Don't get me wrong. I would have preferred to see Liverpool win - despite my hostility towards the club in their 70s and 80s heyday - rather than see Man C buy another title. However, supporters of the theory that experience in winning titles helps in the final run-in will use this season as another example to support their case.

Fair point, although as it happened a win for Liverpool v Palace wouldn't have made a difference to who won the title - however it could be argued that the pressure would have been maintained on City granted. I think it is unfair to say Liverpool bottled it, they just got a bit sloppy defensively against a very determined Palace side who to their credit gave a solid performance.

Even if we had won that we wouldn't have won the title. That was a mad ten minutes, and I believe in that game we lost our heads and gushed under the crowd. The experience will certainly help, especially since the average age of our squad is around 24. Don't think winning against Palace would have made any difference. Villa and West Ham were both utterly dreadful. We gifted Crystal Palace back in to the game with a lucky deflection. Right then we should have shut up shop - but we didn't. Even then we could have won it in the final moments. It was Liverpool's to lose as well, if they had won against Chelsea then they would be champions now instead of Man City. We'd been on an 11 game winning run up until the Chelsea game. If Gerrard didn't slip, I've no doubt in my mind we would have probably gained the point we needed. However the Chelsea game really offered some perspective. We certainly panicked under the pressure in the second half, shooting aimlessly and not waiting to pick a pass. Again I've no doubt if we had some extra squad depth we would have probably got the goal we needed.

Nobody knows how Sunday's games would have gone - or for that matter Wednesday's Man C v Villa game if Liverpool hadn't blown it against Palace. However, I think it is perfectly reasonable to say that Liverpool ballsed up. They were within reach of the title and they threw it away.

However, I think it is perfectly reasonable to say that Liverpool ballsed up. They were within reach of the title and they threw it away. Villa were awful. I don't think Liverpool drawing with Palace helped them. It could have put more pressure on them, but like I said Villa have been awful all season. The title was lost in the Chelsea match. The same Chelsea who also beat the top two teams both home and away, but still couldn't win the title. It's fine margins, but Liverpool will be stronger from the experience. Certainly be challenging whilst we have this current crop of players.
