460 copies sold in the US based on streaming alone on Thursday lmao the first lashings have arrived already

Rated R is the only thing that gives me hope she's not a complete hasbeen

I'd say the fact that people are buying this album and its single is a better indication of her not being a hasbeen than a 6 year old album :')

just because people are buying it means nothing. there's about 5 good tracks (on Anti) I expect something more from somebody who has had 4 years to prepare this, especially when that somebody has had access to some of the biggest producers/writers on the planet

You were expecting something more (pop I assume), but a lot of people are liking what she released. This is obviously the type of music she wants to make as this is the first album she actually had a major major say in. It wouldn't surprise me if we were to get a lot less of pop Rihanna in the next albums

Rated R isn't as good as y'all are making it out to be tho

Enit! It's like her worst album post-the first two, so messy and stuff like Rockstar 101, Photographs and G4L exist because of it

Agree with you both.. I've always thought Rated R was a bit overrated with fans, but by no means worse than Unapologetic or the first two! I agree that Anti is better than Rated R, but neither are her best album for me though, as much as I am feeling Anti right now. Good Girl and Loud are her best two for me (TTT has some amazing moments but too much filler). Her best two albums include Rehab, Disrturbia, Man Down and What's My Name. Nuff said

Rated R WORSE than Unapologetic?

Hell no!

That's the one album that shows she's actually capable of something worthwhile artistically, rather than just a few decent pop hits per album which were handed to her on a plate.

I can see why people like it because it is different but to me everything is just so messy on it, I never go back to it really.

For me it's very easy to say that 'ANTI' is my favorite Rihanna album because I wouldn't rate any of her other albums above 7/10. Rated R should be called overRated R.

8/10 ANTI (very solid effort although I do miss the HITS because I want her to keep breaking records)

7/10 TALK THAT TALK (mainly because I think 'Drunk on Love' and 'Roc Me Out' are two of the very best tracks she's done)

7/10 UNAPOLOGETIC (this album is the true definition of a hot mess, but the run 'Numb'-'Pour It Up'-'Loveeeeee Song' is *.* and there are only 2/3 songs I don't like)

7/10 Rated R (solid album but don't go back to it often and distinctive lack of real stand outs. I would actually say 'Photographs' is my favorite *ducks*)

6/10 Loud (unappealing album as a whole. I would rather cherry pick the singles)

5/10 Good Girl Gone Bad ('Say It', 'Sell Me Candy' and 'Lemme Get That' feel like extreme filler. Just not the big pop album you expect when it starts with 'Umbrella')

4/10 Music of the Sun ('There's a Thug in My Life' was the theme song of my life for a while and 'Let Me' is very fun)

4/10 A Girl Like Me (I rate this lower than MOTS because this has too many ballads and in 2006 she definitely did not have the voice to pull them off)

8 Loud

8 Good Girl Gone Bad

8 Anti

7 Talk That Talk

7 Rated R

5 Music of the Sun

5 Unapologetic

4 A Girl Like Me

Been a while since I heard RR in full, but the singles were very good, Russian Roulette, Te Amo and Rude Boy I think they were? :music: nothing on ANTI has come close to any of those for me anyway, but I guess it's early days.

Rated R had a couple of great album tracks which is why it's looned over, but it has just as much filler as most of her albums.

Absolutely!!

Loons taken in by marketing of it being 'deep' when it wasn't.

glad I'm not the only one who isn't mad on rated r.... it's probably my least fav after music of the sun
Loud is by far my favourite, anthem after anthem, reminds me of so many good times and she was absolutely untouchable during the era. Everyone I knew dyed their hair bright red too, such an icon.
Ok with all this Rated R disdain can we officially stop calling it overrated? :P

Quite. All of you are making me sad. It's the only Rihanna album I'd happily still listen to from start to finish (and so I disagree on it having filler), so on that metric, it's still absolutely the greatest for me. There's some really interesting influences on its darker, grindier tracks that you don't get on the others.

Anti still has quite a way to go. Although it's already ahead of Unapologetic and the first two, if not Talk That Talk as well.
