Posted August 25, 200618 yr Jamelia gets stuck Virgin.net Brummie R n' B sensation Jamelia suffered from stage-fright when she forgot her song lyrics an embarassing nine times during her first gig in over two years. It was the nervous star's first performance after taking time out to have a baby. But the 'Superstar' singer suffered from a bad case of stage-fright at the AOL Sessions gig in London - and her footballer boyfriend Darren Byfield didn't help her jitters! After the gig Jamelia told The Sun: "I just kept forgetting the words. "I wanted to cry. My boyfriend Darren was giving me grief, telling me to hurry up as he was missing the Arsenal game." Is it me or do you think this is really unprofessional?
August 25, 200618 yr I'm going to move this to pop as thats where all the topics for Jamelia's new album are! Even though I see her as a soul singer, her recent stuff is very poppy!
August 25, 200618 yr I'm actually surprised it doesn't happen more often, we all forget the words/get them wrong to our fave tunes, no matter how much we listen to them, so imagine what it's like with a new album of stuff
August 26, 200618 yr Upon request from several members, I've moved all the topics on Jamelia from the Pop Forum into the R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul and Motown Forum.

August 27, 200618 yr Upon request from several members, I've moved all the topics on Jamelia from the Pop Forum into the R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul and Motown Forum. And yet her music is pop! Maybe people feel uncomfortable liking 'pop' music? If anything, her new single has a slight rock feel to it!
August 27, 200618 yr And yet her music is pop! Maybe people feel uncomfortable liking 'pop' music? If anything, her new single has a slight rock feel to it! I agreed that she should stay in the pop forum and wanted them to stay there, but I was asked to move them over here. :P
August 28, 200618 yr Some of the things in the pop forum I feel are R&B, but I think Jamelia is probably a pop singer. She hasn't really been R&B since her first album, though there were some R&B songs on 'Thank you'
July 24, 200717 yr Is it me or do you think this is really unprofessional? May be an old topic but that is definately a bit harsh, 2 years away come onnn, anyone in their right mind would be nervous, i have no doubt i'd touch cloth if i was doin that
July 24, 200717 yr First off, the diva is titled as being an R&B artist. It's impossible to place her in one music genre because she doesn't stick to it. She experiments with music of all genres ranging from R&B to soul to pop and even rock. The diva forgetting her lyrics really isn't that unprofessional or bad. It happens all the time with artists, including multi-platinum selling Mariah Carey. As mentioned above, she had also had two years off where she didn't have to perform or listen to her own songs at all. This was Jamelia's first live performance in two years also, so I would imagine nerves would be very high. She killed it all in rehearsals, but the shock of seeing an audience messed up the diva's nerves. She pulled it together in the end and gave some terrific performances though, so we can forgive her.
July 24, 200717 yr Overall what genre do you reckon she is  i would say R&B tbh Would be weird gettin on stage again after so long, i probably wouldn't have been too impressed if I was in the audience but you'd get over it under the circumstances ^_^ Wonder if this performance is anywhere on youtube
July 24, 200717 yr It's the 'AOL: Sessions' performances we saw back in September time. I'd put her in the R&B genre because 'Drama' is a straight up R&B album, while 'Thank You' does have its pop-ish songs ("Superstar", "Thank You", "See It In A Boy's Eyes"), the majority of the album is R&B ("Bout", "Club Hoppin'", "Taxi", "B.I.T.C.H", "DJ"). 'Walk With Me' is definetley more pop-rock but does contain elements of R&B ("Know My Name", "Get Up, Get Out").
July 24, 200717 yr I also think that her drastic change in sound was a factor in her under-performing on the charts & in album sales. Edited July 24, 200717 yr by Off_Da_Endz
